(a) Find the value of a and b for

(5+i)(a+ib)=16-21.

Hence, determine la + ib.

(a) Given that the point (a,7) from 12x+5y+3 = 0 has the same distance as the

point (5, -4) from y = - x - Find the possible value of a.

(b) Given the equation of an ellipse

3x2+18x+y2—lOy=29

(i) By using the method of completing the square, write the equation in

standard form.

(ii) Find the center, vertices and foci of the ellipse.

(iii) Hence, sketch and label the graph.

Given two graphs of

r=12sinO and r=4+4sin8.

(i) Sketch the both graphs in the same axis.

(ii) Shade the area inside the circle r = l2 sin 8 and outside the cardioid

r = 4+4 sin 8.

(iii) Find angles, 8 where the two graphs intersect.

(iv) Find the area of the shaded region.

(a) Show that x2 + + - 8x + 4z + 19 = 0 is the equation of a sphere. Find its

center and radius. Hence, sketch and label the graph.

(b) Sketch the following surfaces.

(i) z=3x2+y2

(ii) x = jy2 +

(iii) 5x2+y2+z2 =25

(c) Sketch a cube in the fifth octant, having the length 8, having the origin as one of

its vertex. Hence plot the coordinate (8,8,-8).

(a) Let L and 4 be the lines with parametric equations

J :x=12+3t, y=-13+t, z=8-5t


L2 :x=1+9s, y=7-4s, z=-5+6s

(i) Are the lines parallel? Give reason.

(ii) Do the lines intersect or skew? Prove it.

(b) Consider three points P(2,0,5), Q(l 0, 6,3) and R(7,4,12) on a plane. Find

(i) two vectors that parallel to the plane.

(ii) the normal vector.

(iii) the equation of the plane through the point P.
