FOREWORD
The need to have some “reference standards” arises from the need to check the aesthetic-sensory
conformity of those components/modules (see Proc. 07721) that, owing to the specificity of their
characteristics, not n quantifiable or expressible on drawing and binding from the point of view of
quality, could not be checked and assessed otherwise but by comparison (for particular decorative
effects, such as, for instance. cubic or similar effects, finishing imitating the galvanic treatment
obtained by painting or by film, tactile characteristics and surface morphology of finishing,
completeness of the aesthetic contents).
Therefore, even in case of realization of the aesthetic assessment the objectifying of the
ascertainment of the aesthetic requirements is necessary in order to express a significant subsequent
assessment, both during the Qualification procedure, with the granting of the “Aesthetic Approval”, and
for the subsequent quality checks.
The difficulty in objectifying these characteristics completely is solved with the physical representation
of the aesthetic contents of the new component.
2
GENERAL
This procedure is aimed at defining the responsibilities and operative modalities for the realization and
management of the “aesthetic and sensory reference standards” .
2.1
The term “reference standard” means the sample of a specific component (e.g.: door panel,
dashboard, plates) or indefinite material (fabric, aesthetic finishing, etc.) that, after checking the
compliance with the technical documentation (measurable or assessable by attributes), can be
considered to be a work instrument, integrating the same technical documentation.
2.2
The “certification” of the characteristics of the reference standards is the authentication as concerns
the aesthetic and sensory aspects, it permits the identification and it certifies the conformity to and
compliance with the represented characteristics.
of the need to have a significant lot of pieces, within the agreed upon terms, from –13 and within –9,
with no exceptions (e.g.: complete dashboard within the end of pre-series); by means of these pieces
BU Plant Quality shall carry out the check within its competence as foreseen by the Qualification
activity flow-chart.
Therefore, the reference standards carried out according to the modalities indicated in this Standard
shall be made available for the users so that they can make use of them both during the Qualification
step (that is Approval procedure, Proc. Spec. 9.01102 Annex A3) for the granting of the aesthetic
approval of the new component/module which they refer to, and for the subsequent supply lot audit.
3.2
Responsibility
The request to realize the standard is formalized by P.P.E. A.C.V. E.&I. according to the reference list
agreed upon for the model in development (see Annex 2).
The construction of the standards is entrusted to P.P.E. I.d.M. that, in function of the complexity of the
aesthetic and sensory characteristics of the new component, the technological critical aspects and the
component development state, carries out “indefinite” or “definite” standards.
3.3
Indefinite standards
The indefinite standards, such as, for instance, thin sheet painted in body shell color (for the
development steps, see Proc. 07982), small metal plate representing the aesthetic finishing, can be
realized directly by I.d.M. or required to third parties.
In this case, a specific Budget shall be planned.
An exception is represented by the families of materials such as real “Alcantara” leather, non-woven
fabric, carpet, fabric, velvet and fine velvet, for the realization and management of which the operative
modalities indicated in Proc. 07967 shall be followed.
3.4
Definite standards
The “definite” standards are realized with components in true scale or with parts of them, obtained
from definitive technological materials and processes, and, owing to their nature, they provide a
realistic identification of the aesthetic characteristics “downstream” of the variations that occur
physiologically owing to the same productive process of the component (pressing, thermal forming,
painting, saddling, etc.).
On request of PPE I.d.M., the suppliers of the involved components (see Annex 1) provide PPE I.d.M.
with the agreed upon quantity of pieces per new component/module (1 element per every production
site). The certification will be issued only if I.d.M. consider them suitable for their purpose. Otherwise
I.d.M. shall contact supplier and Resa. del Modello (Model Return) in order to agree with them upon
the appropriate actions to be taken.
3.5
Standard validity
The standard is valid until the aesthetic component, which characterizes it, is consistent with the
defined aesthetic targets and it complies with the one of the real component. In the first case, if

occurring after a style renewal (for instance if aesthetic parameters, color, embossing and brilliance
WITHOUT PRIOR WRITTEN CONSENT BY FIAT AUTO S.P.A. IN CASE OF DISPUTE
are changed), a new standard must be created. The second possibility can occur in case of quality
derivation carried out by the component/module supplier.

3.6
Standard remake
Due to the subsequent several extensions of utilization, the stored stock of a determinate standard
can run out. In this case, the Manager (PPE Finizioni - Finishing) shall require their remake by a
CONFIDENTIAL
specific request to PPE I.d.M. that shall carry out them and that shall make sure of their compliance
with the suitability requirements.

H1
All the components/modules (of vehicle inside and outside) with aesthetic characteristics (§ P 07724)
are identified with the approval and freezing of the style objects and the subsequent issue of the
“finishing assy” CO.DE.P. Color. Standards with components in true scale will be carried out on the
basis of these components/modules, only for the ones individuated by PPE EMM I.d.M. (see Annex 1)
and considered to be absolutely necessary and agreed upon with BU-RDV-Platform / BU Plant
Quality. As concerns the ones for which the realization of definite standards is not necessary, I.d.M.
shall carry out “indefinite standards”.
H2
As concerns the component indicated in ANNEX 1, PPE EMM I.d.M. ask to every supplier for the
quantity of required pieces from which, in case they are considered to be appropriate, they shall carry
out the standards (in case of need, making use of the whole component/module or part of it). The
definite standards consisting of a complete component/module, owing to the difficulties of
management, handling and storage, as well as to their overall dimension (e.g. complete dashboard)
are carried out in the strictly necessary quantity, that is 1 element per every BU Plant Quality that
makes use of it.
As concerns the “indefinite” standards, the quantity is decided by the applicant Body in function of the
expected volume of distribution and of the share that is to be stored.
H3
After the “certification” of the aesthetic and sensory function, every standard is provided with a specific
label (see Annex 3) containing the detected technical data (cared by PPE I.d.M.).
H4
Label with identification data (see Annex 4), issued and applied to the standard by PPE VCA- Exterior
& Interior that forwards it according to the distribution list.
H5
The final users are: BU Plant – Quality, the Suppliers of the same components that receive the
standards through WWP SQE, the Style Center that developed the model to which the component
refers and all the ones indicated in Annex 5
