PRÓLOGO

PROYECTOS QUE UNEN Y CREAN VALOR

Estas líneas me permiten expresar la satisfacción y el orgullo que sentimos en Grupo SANJOSE por haber participado en el de-
sarrollo, construcción y actualmente en la gestión de los dos primeros hospitales concesionados de Chile: el Hospital El Carmen
Dr. Luis Valentín Ferrada de Maipú y el Hospital Clínico Metropolitano La Florida Dra. Eloísa Díaz Insunza.

Estamos seguros de que estos hospitales son una referencia en la oferta sanitaria pública del país. Hemos creado dos nuevos
complejos sanitarios que suman 766 camas y aproximadamente 140.000 m² de superficie construida. Instalaciones que respon-
den a una demanda histórica y que materializan una realidad esperada durante mucho tiempo por dos zonas muy importantes
de Santiago de Chile como Maipú y La Florida.

Estas dos grandes obras son un magnífico ejemplo de infraestructura sanitaria del Siglo XXI. El esfuerzo y trabajo invertidos
estos años en su cuidada concepción y ejecución han logrado convertirlos en un referente nacional e internacional en este tipo
de edificaciones tan sensibles para los ciudadanos.

Se han construido dos iconos arquitectónicos para Santiago de Chile, que cuentan con un marcado carácter innovador y una
decidida apuesta por las últimas tecnologías que logran agilizar y mejorar todos los servicios sanitarios que ofrecen.

Los hospitales de Maipú y La Florida destacan por su versatilidad, funcionalidad y sobre todo por estar hechos a la medida
de las personas que diariamente los recorren. Edificios modernos, eficientes y humanos en los que se han cuidado todos los
detalles para que tanto profesionales como pacientes puedan interaccionar de forma cómoda y sencilla. Espacios amables,
eficientes y perfectamente integrados con el entorno, que han dado como resultado dos infraestructuras sanitarias singulares y
modernas de las que todo Chile pueda sentirse orgulloso.

El excepcional resultado obtenido en este ambicioso proyecto ha sido posible gracias al compromiso de todos los que han
participado en su desarrollo y en la continua búsqueda de la excelencia de todas las partes implicadas. Gracias al Ministerio de
Obras Públicas de Chile, a la sociedad concesionaria, a los arquitectos y a todas las empresas y personas que han ayudado a
hacer realidad dos proyectos pioneros para el país.

Una vez construidos, consolidados y convertidos en una referencia, sólo queda continuar trabajando diariamente en equipo para
continuar aunando esfuerzos y conseguir el principal objetivo: ofrecer el mejor servicio a todos sus usuarios.

PROLOGUE

PROJECTS THAT BIND AND CREATE VALUE

These lines allow me to express the satisfaction and pride that we feel in Grupo SANJOSE for having participated in the develop-
ment, construction and operation of the first two hospitals under concession regime in Chile: El Carmen Dr. Luis Valentín Ferrada
Hospital of Maipu and Dr. Eloísa Díaz Insunza Metropolitan Hospital of La Florida.

We are sure that these hospitals are a reference within the public healthcare sector of the country. We have created two new
healthcare complexes that add a total of 766 beds and almost 140,000 m² of surface to the domestic healthcare system. Facilities
that respond to a historical demand and materialise a long-sought reality two very important areas of Santiago de Chile, that is
Maipu and La Florida.

These two great projects are a magnificent example of healthcare infrastructure of the 21st Century. When looking at them, they
remind me that the years of work invested in their careful design and execution have served to turn them into a national and in-
ternational reference in this type of buildings, so sensitive to citizens.

We have built two architectural icons for the region. Although, I would emphasize, above all, their innovative character and the
commitment to avant-gard technologies capable of streamlining and improving all the services they offer.

The hospitals of Maipu and La Florida stand out for their versatility, functionality and, above all, because they are tailor made for
the people who walk them in daily. Modern, efficient and human buildings that have taken into consideration every detail so that
professionals and patients can interact in a comfortable and simple way. Friendly spaces, efficient and perfectly integrated with
the environment, resulting in two unique and modern healthcare infrastructures which Chile can be proud of.

The awesome result obtained in this ambitious project has been made possible only by the commitment of all those who have
participated in its development and in the continuous search for excellence. Thanks to the Ministry of Public Works of Chile, the
concessionaire company, the architects and all the companies that have helped to execute a pioneering project for the country.

Once built, consolidated and became a reference, we can only continue working to keep on joining forces to meet the main goal:
to provide the best service to final users.

RENOVACIÓN DE LA RED HOSPITALARIA EN CHILE
Los hospitales situados en Santiago de Chile en la comunas de Maipú - Dr.
Luis Valentín Ferrada y La Florida - Dra Eloísa Diaz Insunza constituyen
un hito en la arquitectura sanitaria del Estado de Chile ya que fueron los
primeros hospitales propuestos y construidos bajo la ley de concesiones
promovida entre los años 2007 - 2009.
Ambos proyectos fueron objeto de un concurso internacional con fuertes
restricciones y vivieron un proceso tortuoso y sincopado ya que con ante-
rioridad a la adjudicación se debieron hacer todas las modificaciones so-
licitadas por la contraparte, esto es el Ministerio de Obras Publicas y los
correspondientes Servicios de Salud.
La edificación debía ser capaz de resolver desde la arquitectura no sólo
el compromiso con el lugar sino también atender a un programa médico
arquitectónico sumamente detallado y estricto, es decir, se bebía buscar
la mejor solución dentro de las directrices aprobada por el Ministerio de
Obras Públicas.
Asimismo cabe destacar, que han sido los primeros hospitales públicos en
el uso de aisladores sísmicos lo que obliga a pensar en un “edificio terre-
nal” bajo aisladores y un “edificio celestial” sobre aisladores. Esto comple-
jizó el proyecto estructural a la hora de comunicar los diferentes cuerpos
El desarrollo del proyecto constituyó, en definitiva, un “juego de equilibrios”
entre: funcionalidad, flexibilidad, tecnología y humanización de los ambien-
tes y todo ello obligó a un diálogo permanente entre todos los agentes
implicados: arquitectura, ingeniería, MOP, MINSAL, empresa concesionaria
y empresa constructora.
Cabe destacar el eficiente trabajo en equipo realizado con el Grupo
SANJOSE, tanto desde la empresa constructora como desde la empresa
concesionaria que desde el primer instante brindaron todo su apoyo para
garantizar un objetivo acorde a las exigencias del Estado de Chile y a la vez
que fuere económicamente viable para la empresa constructora y para la
empresa concesionaria que debía garantizar su funcionamiento durante 15
años.

RENEWAL OF THE HOSPITAL NETWORK IN CHILE
Hospitals located in Santiago de Chile in the communities of Maipu - Dr.
Luis Valentín Ferrada and La Florida - Dra. Eloísa Díaz lnsunza constitute a
milestone in the sanitary architecture of the State of Chile since they were
the first hospitals proposed and built under concession regime during the
presidency of Ora Bachelet from 2007 to 2009.
Both projects were subject to an international call to tender with strong
restrictions and experienced a tortuous and syncopated process since any
amendments requested by the counterpart, the Ministry of Public Works
and the corresponding Health Services, had to be made prior to the awar-
ding of the contract.
The building had to be able to solve out from an architectonic point of view
not only the commitment to the place but also meet a very detailed architec-
tonic programme within the guidelines approved by the Ministry of Public
Works.
It should also be noted that these two hospitals are the very first public
hospitals to use seismic isolators, what lead to think of an “earthly building”
under insulators and a “celestial building” over insulators. This fact involved
additional complexity to the structural project in communicating the diffe-
rent bodies
The development of the project was, in short, a “game of balances” be-
tween: functionality, flexibility, technology and humanisation of environ-
ments and all this forced a permanent dialogue between all the agents invol-
ved: architecture, engineering, MOP, MINSAL, the concessionaire company
and the construction company.
It is worth mentioning the efficient team work carried out with Grupo
SANJOSE, both the construction company and the concessionaire, who
from the very first moment gave their entire support to guarantee a final
result according to the demands of the State of Chile and feasible from an
economic point of view for the construction company and the concessio-
naire that had to guarantee its operation during 15 years.

NUEVO CONCEPTO DE ARQUITECTURA HOSPITALARIA
El peso que la nueva arquitectura debería soportar fue dado por las com-
plejas condiciones funcionales de un hospital, por un lado, y las condicio-
nes urbanísticas y culturales del entorno.
Nos enfrentamos en ambos casos a dos terrenos completamente distintos,
para el Hospital de Maipú, 50.000 m² partido por un desnivel de 10 metros y
para el Hospital de La Florida un terreno sumamente estrecho de 30 metros
de ancho y 300 metros de largo, ambos en un entorno de viviendas de no
más de dos plantas.
No obstante las premisas para las dos edificaciones fueron las mismas:
• Entender el lugar de su emplazamiento.
• Tener en cuenta el orden y la escala de las edificaciones existentes.
• Asumir las condiciones del terreno: topografía, conexión con el metro
y con el aparcamiento, etc.
• Dar una respuesta sencilla a un programa complejo.
• Asumir su carácter de edificio público.
• Conseguir un edificio tranquilo, limpio y luminoso.
• Confortable tanto para el paciente como para el personal.
• Atractivo para el visitante.
• Flexible para permitir cambios de distribución.
• Fácil orientación con los mínimos recorridos.
• Dos edificios de referencia en proceso de alta complejidad que debían
ser proyectados con criterios asistenciales actuales.
• Tanto el Hospital de Maipú como el Hospital de La Florida constan de
dos zonas claramente diferenciadas. Una contiene el programa desti-
nado a servicios y la otra ocupa la zona de hospitalización.
• Un vestíbulo como elemento importante en la edificación formal y fun-
cional que ordena y da acceso a los diferentes servicios pero que fun-
damentalmente contribuye a la comprensión del edificio.
• Diferenciación de circulaciones técnica y pública tanto a nivel horizon-
tal como vertical.
• Acceso capaz de asumir la gran cantidad de público a las consultas
relacionándolas a través de la escalera mecánica.
• Respetar la secuencia asistencial
• Materiales nobles y de fácil mantenimiento que contribuyan a su ca-
rácter de edificio público.
• Dar prioridad a la fácil orientación del paciente a través de los patios
de luz.
En ambos casos se le exigió a la arquitectura un papel moderador, enten-
der el lugar donde se había de construir un edificio, como se dispone un
edificio en un lugar y no se impone, superar el reto de enfrentarse a la his-
tórica primera renovación hospitalaria en Chile, entender el pasado cultural,
interpretar el presente e imaginar el futuro.

NEW HOSPITAL ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT
The burden the new architecture should support is due to the complex func-
tional conditions of a hospital, on the one hand, and the urban and cultural
conditions of the environment, on the other hand.
In both cases, we face two completely different sites, the Hospital of Maipu
located at a 50,000 m2 plot of land split over by a 10-meter vertical drop,
and the Hospital of La Florida located at a very narrow plot of land, 30-meter
wide and 300-meter long, both in a two-storey housing environment.
However, the premises for the two buildings were the same:
• To understand the environment of the site.
• To take into account the order and scale of existing buildings.
• To assume the conditions of the site: topography, connection with me-
tro lines and car parks, etc.
• To provide a simple answer to a complex programme.
• To assume its character as a public building.
• To build a quiet, clean and bright building.
• To create a comfortable building for both patients and staff.
• To create an attractive building for visitors.
• To execute a flexible building to allow distribution changes.
• To facilitate easy orientation with the minimum routes.
• To execute two reference buildings of high complexity that should be
projected with current assistance criteria.
• Both, the Hospital of Maipu and the Hospital of La Florida Hospital
consist of two clearly differentiated areas. One devoted to services and
the other to in patient stay.
• A hall serves as an important item in the formal and functional building
around which different services are ordered helping to understand the
building.
• To differentiate between technical and public flow, both horizontally
and vertically.
• To provide access to a large number of people through the escalator.
• To respect the sequence of care.
• To use noble materials of easy maintenance that contribute to its cha-
racter as a public building.
• To prioritise the patient’s easy orientation through the courtyards.
In both cases, architecture was required to play a moderating role, to un-
derstand the place where a building was to be built, how a building is pla-
ced there and not to impose itself, to overcome the challenge of facing the
historic first hospital renovation in Chile, to understand the cultural past, to
interpret the present and imagine the future.

SISTEMA ESTRUCTURAL HOSPITALES MAIPU Y LA FLORIDA
La estructura principal de los edificios contempla la incorporación de una
interfaz de aislación para cumplir con el requisito establecido en las bases
del proyecto que es mantener la operación de los recintos ante la ocurren-
cia de un sismo severo.
Con este sistema de aislación se baja la vulnerabilidad estructural, las ace-
leraciones y las deformaciones de entrepiso, con lo que se protegen los
elementos no estructurales y los equipos, esto último es un aspecto muy
importante para recintos hospitalarios de gran complejidad. Se estima que
la incorporación de un sistema de aislación en la base de un edificio redu-
ce en un 80% los efectos de un sismo severo en los pisos superiores, por
consiguiente es el único sistema que nos permite cumplir con el requisito
básico de funcionamiento continuo.
Los hospitales tienen distribuidos los recintos de mayor complejidad en los
pisos superiores (quirófanos, maternidad, salas de recuperación, central
de datos, equipos de radiología, etc.) y la zona de mantención, bodegas y
estacionamientos en los niveles de subterráneo. Por este motivo se ubicó
el nivel de la interfaz de aislación en el primer piso y se diseñaron muros de
contención en los niveles de subterráneo.
De esta manera la estructura general de los hospitales está dividida en dos
niveles, la subestructura que está ubicada bajo el nivel de aislación (el
edificio terrenal) y la superestructura que se encuentra sobre la interfaz de
aislación (el edificio divino).
El análisis estructural general (considerando los dos niveles y la interfaz
de aislación) se realizó utilizando el Software ETABS, Versión 8, mediante
un análisis módal espectral. Se utilizó el espectro de la norma chilena NCh
2745 “Análisis y diseño de edificios con aislación sísmica”, versión 2003, y
se verificó el cumplimiento de la norma chilena para edificios sin aislación
NCh 433 “Diseño sísmico de edificios”, versión 1996.
Los requisitos que se deben cumplir con la aplicación de ambas normas
son:
• Resistir sismos moderados sin daño en elementos estructurales, com-
ponentes no estructurales y contenidos del edificio.
• Resistir sismos severos sin que exista falla del sistema de aislación,
daño significativo a los elementos estructurales, ni daño masivo a ele-
mentos no estructurales.
• Diseño estructural con un corte sísmico mínimo del 5% de la masa.
• Factor de reducción 2 para el diseño de superestructura, donde se
acepta una pequeña incursión no lineal de los elementos, y factor de
reducción 1 para el diseño de la subestructura, donde se diseña para
una respuesta elástica.
La superestructura está constituida por columnas, vigas y losas de hormi-
gón armado, distribuidos en módulos regulares de 7,5 x 7,5 mt. Las solicita-
ciones estáticas y sísmicas son traspasadas a los aisladores elastoméricos
a través de los capitales ubicados en la interfaz de aislación. Se consideró
el cumplimiento del capítulo 21 del código ACI 318-05 y los elementos fue-
ron diseñados como “marcos especiales resistentes a momento”, es decir

The main structure of the buildings considers the incorporation of an insu-
lation interface in order to meet the basic specification of the project, that
is to maintain the operation of the area in the event of a severe earthquake.
This insulation system reduces structural vulnerability, accelerations and de-
formations of the mezzanine, protecting non-structural elements and equip-
ment – being the latter very important within a hospital. The incorporation of
an insulation system at the base of a building is estimated to reduce by 80%
the effects of a severe earthquake on the upper floors, therefore it is the only
system that complies with the basic requirement of continuous operation.
Hospitals place the most complex areas in the upper floors (surgery rooms,
maternity rooms, recovery rooms, data centre, radiology, etc.) and mainte-
nance facilities, warehouses and parking lots at underground levels. For this
reason, the insulation interface was located on the first floor and retaining
walls were designed at the underground levels.
In this way the general structure of the hospitals is divided into two levels,
the substructure that is located under the insulation level (the earthly buil-
ding) and the superstructure that is located on the insulation interface (the
divine building).
The general structural analysis (considering the two levels and the isolation
interface) was performed using ETABS Software, Version 8, by means of a
spectral modal analysis. The spectrum of the Chilean standard NCh 2745
“Analysis and design of buildings with seismic insulation”,version 2003, was
used and the compliance with the Chilean standard for buildings without in-
sulation NCh 433 “Seismic design of buildings”, version 1996, was verified.
Requirements that must be met with the application of both standards are
as follows:
• Resist moderate earthquakes without damage to structural elements,
non-structural components and building contents.
• To resisting severe earthquakes without any failure of the insulation
system, significant damage to structural elements, or massive damage
to non-structural elements.
• Structural design with a minimum seismic cut of 5% of the mass.
• Reduction factor 2 for the superstructure design, where a small non-li-
near incursion of the elements is accepted, and reduction factor 1 for
the substructure design, designed for an elastic response.
The superstructure consists of reinforced concrete columns, beams and
slabs, arranged into regular modules of 7.5 x 7.5 mt. The static and seis-
mic stresses are transferred to the elastomeric insulators through the capi-
tals located in the insulation interface. The compliance with chapter 21 of
the code ACI 318-05 was considered and the elements were designed as
“moment-resistant special frames “, that is to say, beam-columns areas are
protected so as to penetrate in the nonlinear range with reinforcements to
increase its ductility.
The substructure consists of a mixed system of slabs, seismic frames and
cutting walls built in reinforced concrete, they must withstand the stresses

está protegida en forma especial la zona de los nudos viga-columnas para
incursionar en el rango no lineal con mayores refuerzos para aumentar su
ductilidad.
La subestructura está constituida por un sistema mixto de losas, marcos
sísmicos y muros de corte construidos en hormigón armado, deben resistir
las solicitaciones que provienen de la interfaz de aislación y traspasarlas al
sistema de fundaciones. Se consideró el cumplimiento del capítulo 21 del
código ACI 318-05, las vigas y columnas fueron diseñadas como “marcos
especiales resistentes a momentos”, aunque con el factor de reducción 1
se espera un comportamiento lineal.
Los resultados del análisis de las diferentes estructuras sobre el nivel de
aislación entregó valores del orden de 0,12 g para las aceleraciones, 0,2
0/00 para el drift de entre piso y una demanda de ductilidad cercana a 1,2,
es decir se espera un comportamiento dentro del rango lineal. Para el sis-
mo máximo posible, las aceleraciones llegaron a valores de 0,14 g, un drift
de 0,25 0/00 y una demanda de ductilidad de 1,5.

CONCEPTO DE DISEÑO ARQUITECTÓNICO
La Comuna
La Comuna de Maipú localizada al oeste de Santiago tiene una superficie
de 13. 721 has de las cuales 5.573 has son urbanas. Según censo de po-
blación tiene 698.732 habitantes, con una tasa de crecimiento demográfico
durante los últimos 40 años de un 7% anual y de 10% anual los últimos 10
años. Tiene un clima continental costero con una media anual de 13.4º C.
El predio.
El predio sobre el que se asentó el nuevo hospital era un terreno de 50.619 m².
Era un terreno muy arbolado por lo que, la respuesta arquitectónica respetó
al máximo el entorno existente y se confundía con el parque que se trans-
formó de uso privado a una vez construido el hospital, en parque de uso
público. El entorno del predio es de una escala muy baja, entre 1 o 2 pisos,
casi en su totalidad construcciones destinadas a viviendas unifamiliares.
La particular topografía accidentada de la zona caracterizó este terreno,
conformado por dos terrazas naturales unidas por un terraplén inclinado.
Un tercio de su superficie, la más baja, era prácticamente plana, otro tercio
del terreno, con orientación oriente-poniente era el terraplén en pendiente y
el tercio restante era una meseta a 12 m. de altura respecto de la más baja.
De la meseta alta se tienen vistas del entorno inmediato, de la cordillera y
del sector poniente de la cuidad.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONCEPT
Community
The Community of Maipu located in the western of Santiago has a surface
of 13,721 ha, of which 5,573 ha correspond to urban area. According to
population census it has 698,732 inhabitants, with a 7% annual growth rate
during the last 40 years and a 10% annual growth rate for the last 10 years.
It has a continental coastal climate with an average temperature of 13.4°C
Venue.
The venue where the new hospital is based was a plot of land of 50,619 m2.
It was a very landscaped lot, so the architectural response adhered as far
as possible to the existing environment and merged with the park that was
transformed from private use into public use upon completion of the works.
The surrounding environment is of a very low scale, 1 or 2 storey buildings,
almost entirely single family homes.
The particular rugged topography of the area characterised this plot of land,
made up of two natural terraces joined by a sloping embankment. A third
of its surface, the lowest, was practically flat, another third of the land, the
east-western side was a sloping embankment and the remaining third part
was a plateau at 12 m. of height with respect to the lowest zone. From the
plateau, views of the immediate surroundings, the mountain range and the
western sector of the city are offered.

El emplazamiento
En una primera aproximación al terreno, observamos una división en dos
grandes zonas planas conformadas por la diferencia de cota. La separa-
ción de ambas mesetas se materializa por un gran talud continuo, cuya
presencia es apreciable desde todas las zonas bajas del predio. Con la
disposición del edificio pretendimos remarcar esta gran línea de fuerza del
predio, situando el edificio justo en la parte inclinada del terreno (el ta-
lud), liberando, de esta manera, el máximo espacio horizontal para crear
dos grandes zonas verdes horizontales y planas en donde ubicáramos los
acceso principales al conjunto. Se planteó construir un gran zócalo que,
sobresaliendo del talud conectara las dos grandes plataformas, un volu-
men que permitiera albergar la parte más técnica del programa y que fuera
accesible desde los dos niveles del predio, con los acceso principales en la
planta baja y una gran terraza ajardinada sobre la cubierta de este primer
volumen, accesible peatonalmente y que diera continuidad a la zona ver-
de de la plataforma superior del predio. En esta parte superior decidimos
ubicar las habitaciones, distribuidas en dos grandes prismas desfasados y
separados entre sí buscando una óptima exposición solar (nor-oeste) y un
entorno agradable (generamos un gran parque en la zona superior) a una
escala más doméstica (2 alturas sobre el terreno).

Site
In a first approach to the site, we observe a division into two large flat zones
formed by a difference in height. The separation of both plateaus is materia-
lised by a great continuous slope, visible from all lower areas of the site. The
layout of the building intends to emphasise this great power line, placing
the building right on the sloping part, thus releasing the maximum horizontal
space to create two large horizontal and flat green areas where the main
access is located. A large plinth, standing out from the slope connecting
the two large platforms, was outlined in order to accommodate the most
technical part of the programme while being accessible from both levels
of the site, with the main access on the ground floor and a large garden
terrace on the cover, easily accessible by foot and integrated into the green
scape of the upper platform. The upper level, houses the rooms, arranged
into two large outdated prisms and separated from each other looking for an
optimal solar exposure (north-western side) and a pleasant environment (a
large park in the upper area) on a more domestic scale (a 2-storey buidling).

La forma
La propuesta formal fue la de un edificio-hospital conformado por 3 blo-
ques compactos. Los edificios de estas características posibilitan un aho-
rro energético importante, pues al tener menos fachadas consiguen reducir
las superficies por donde se pierde calor en invierno y por donde se gana
calor en verano.
Para esto fue importante crear un zócalo en donde se agrupó la mayor par-
te del programa médico arquitectónico, garantizando la iluminación natu-
ral y ventilación de las diferentes unidades a través de patios.
La secuencia de patios se ajusta a una necesidad funcional. Son más an-
chos y más espaciados en aquellas zonas del edificio donde el plan fun-
cional es menos compartimentado, como las emergencias, pabellones y
servicios generales. Y más estrechos y próximos en aquellas zonas donde
el programa médico arquitectónico es más compartimentado, como son
las consultas o las administraciones. Las unidades de hospitalización se
colocaron sobre éste en dos volúmenes estrechos y largos para garantizar
un buen frente de asoleamiento en el 100% de sus habitaciones.
En resumen, se trata de tres grandes prismas que buscan en su conexión
con la plataforma baja, una escala más humana mediante alturas no muy
elevadas, patios y pérgolas más fragmentados en los accesos a los edifi-
cios.
Asimismo las fachadas de las habitaciones aprovechan las diferentes tipo-
logías de habitaciones para generar una composición con distintos planos
que rompen la condición monolítica de la volumetría del edificio.
El programa
La distribución programática se desarrolla en tres grupos: (1) dos pisos
subterráneos que albergan estacionamientos, servicios clínicos y no-clíni-
cos; (2) dos pisos en el zócalo semienterrado, que albergan el corazón del
hospital como urgencia, radiología, pabellones y pacientes críticos; y (3)
dos pisos superiores para las unidades de hospitalización, que se despe-
gan sobre una galería técnica en el piso intermedio.
En virtud de la mejor operatividad, el proyecto se desarrolla en un funcio-
namiento clínico absolutamente horizontal, y presenta una escala urbana
bastante reducida para los 70.000 m² construidos. Esto se aprecia en que
– a pesar de tener 7 pisos – esto no se percibe en ninguna de sus fachadas.

Form
The formal proposal was that of a hospital building made up of 3 compact
blocks. This type of building leads to important energy savings since less
facade surface involves less heat lost or gain in winter and summer, respec-
tively.
So as to achieve this, it was important to create a plinth where the majority
of the medical architectural programme was brought together, guaranteeing
natural lighting and ventilation of units through courtyards.
The sequence of courtyards has been adjusted to functional needs. Being
wider and more spaced in those areas of the building where the functional
plan is less compartmentalised, such as emergency rooms, pavilions and
general services. And narrower and closer in those areas where the archi-
tectural medical programme is more compartmentalised, such as consulta-
tion rooms or administration service. The in -patient stay units were placed
on it arranged into two narrow and long volumes in order to ensure good
sunlight in all rooms.
In short, there are three large prisms that seek, in the connection with the
lower platform, to create a more human scale, not very tall, and with court-
yards and pergolas at the access to the buildings.
Likewise, facades take advantage of the different typologies of rooms to
generate a composition with different levels that breaks the monolithic con-
dition of the volumetry of the building.
Programme
Programme is developed into three groups: (1) Two underground floors
housing parking lots, clinical and non-clinical services; (2) Two floors in the
half-buried plinth, housing the heart of the hospital, that is emergency room,
radiology unit, critical patients and pavilions; and (3) Two upper floors for
in-patient stay rooms, arranged into a technical gallery in the intermediate
floor.
For better operability, the project is developed in an absolutely
horizontal operating and shows a very small urban scale for the 70,000 m2
built. You would never tell from its façades, that it is a 7-storey building.

NIVEL TERRENO INFERIOR – ZÓCALO
- Planta Piso 1º
Accesos principales, esta planta alberga los servicios que necesitan un ac-
ceso más directo desde el exterior, como son los servicios de Urgencias e
imagenología, los accesos al núcleo público de hospitalización y el acceso
a las zonas ambulatorias. Las zonas hospitalaria y la ambulatoria están
claramente diferenciadas, pero con un acceso común a través de un gran
hall iluminado con un patio verde. La zona ambulatoria se distribuye en tres
alturas accesibles desde un triple espacio vertical comunicado mediante
escaleras mecánicas.
- Planta Subte -1
Público-Técnico, en este nivel encontramos una división en el bloque, la
zona pública alberga parte del programa del CRS y su administración, el
área de capacitación y eventos y la cafetería. Ésta parte más pública se
abre a un gran patio-plaza exterior ajardinado que conecta mediante una
escalera de acceso con el nivel de calle y con la Plaza del Abrazo.
Las áreas que quedan al oriente del acceso acogen las zonas más técni-
cas del hospital, que además han de quedar en proximidad de la zona de
carga y descarga, situada en el extremo oriente del zócalo bajo el talud
vegetal e iluminado y ventilado mediante lucarnas. Sobre el andén y bajo el
talud se encuentra una parte de los recintos técnicos. En el mismo extremo
pero en la parte delantera del zócalo se ubica el acceso de personal y los
vestuarios, así como las zonas de ocio, descanso y relajación del personal
(casino, cafetería, club escolar, jardín infantil, etc.)
Además se consideran las Salas Eléctricas principales.
Planta Subte -2
Estacionamientos subterráneos.
-Planta Piso 2º
Administrativa-Asistencial-Críticos, en este piso se ubica la parte ambula-
toria restante, los hospitales de día, así como la administración correspon-
diente al hospital.
Sobre la zona de emergencias de la planta baja se sitúan las salas de par-
tos, los pabellones y las unidades de pacientes críticos, creando un eje ver-
tical de comunicación directa entre todas las unidades críticas del hospital.
NIVEL PLATAFORMA DE TERRENO SUPERIOR –
VOLÚMENES DE HOSPITALIZACIÓN
-Planta Piso 3º
Accesos-cubierta techo jardín.
En esta planta, con la intención de elevar las habitaciones sobre el jardín
para permitir la permeabilidad entre las zonas verdes y la cubierta ajardi-
nada, situamos el resto de recintos técnicos, en donde se encuentran la
mayoría de los recintos de Climatización. Sobre el zócalo y apoyado sobre
el terreno, se encuentra el Hospital de Día Psiquiátrico, que necesita de
un acceso independiente del hospital, y, por relación funcional con éste,
la unidad de hospitalización psiquiátrica, con acceso desde los núcleos
de comunicación técnicos y públicos del zócalo. Además en el exterior, se
sitúa la Plaza Ceremonial Mapuche.

LAND LOWER LEVEL – PLINTH
- 1st floor
Main Access. This plant houses all services requiring more direct access
from the outside, such as emergency and imaging and diagnosis, access
to in-patient stay and outpatient areas. Inpatient and outpatient areas are
clearly differentiated, but share a common access through a large hall lit
with a green courtyard. Outpatient area is arranged into three floors acces-
sible from a triple vertical space communicated by escalators.
- Floor -1
Public-Technical. This block is divided into two at this level; public area hou-
ses part of the CRS programme and its management, training and meeting
hall and the cafeteria. This public area faces a large outdoor square-court-
yard garden area connects by an access staircase to street level and Plaza
del Abrazo.
Eastern side houses the most technical areas of the hospital, which must
also be close to loading and unloading area, located in the far east side of
the plinth under the vegetation slope illuminated and ventilated by skylights.
Technical units are placed under the slope. At the same end but at the front
of the plinth, staff access hall and changing rooms are located, as well as
staff leisure and rest areas (casino, cafeteria, school club, kindergarten, etc.)
Further, it includes main power premises.
- Floor -2
Underground car parks.
- 2nd floor
Management services – day care - critical patients. This floor houses outpa-
tient áreas, day care and management services.
Delivery rooms and critical patient units and pavilions are located on top of
the emergency room of the ground floor, creating a vertical axis of direct
communication between all the critical units of the hospital.
UPPER LAND LEVEL – IN-PATIENT STAY VOLUMEN
- 3rd floor
Access-covered roof garden.
In order to elevate rooms with regards to the garden so as to increase per-
meability between green spaces and the roof garden, technical rooms, hou-
sing mainly air conditioning facilities, are located in this floor. On the plinth
and supported on the ground, is the Psychiatric Day Hospital, which needs
independent access from the hospital, and, due to functional reasons, the
psychiatric hospitalisation unit, with direct access from the technical and
public centres of the plinth. At the outside, the Ceremonial Mapuche Plaza
is located.

This floor, due to proximity to critical areas, accommodates the rooms that
need a quick connection with them, such as the acute patients, neonatolo-

Materialidad del edificio
Los materiales elegidos, para darle forma a los volúmenes, fueron el resul-
tado de la búsqueda de equilibrio entre funcionalidad, durabilidad y calidez,
todo ello acompañado por un sistema de patios y lucernarios, que permi-
tieran la incorporación de la luz natural, incluso, hasta el nivel de estaciona-
mientos subterráneos, lo que ayudaba a la definición de espacios cálidos
y agradables muy distantes de la concepción tradicional que tenemos de
las instalaciones hospitalarias. Estos conceptos tienden a reforzar la con-
dición de Hospital amigo.
Los grandes grupos de materiales son:
• El Hormigón visto: Es el material principal que configura el zócalo,
lo propusimos de forma más opaca en los laterales (con pequeñas
rasgaduras verticales para controlar el sol del oriente y del poniente) y
más permeable en su frente principal, mediante grandes paramentos
estructurales de hormigón que dotan de ritmo y dinamismo a la facha-
da a la vez que actúan como filtro visual para los espacios públicos
interiores.
• El Acero: Empleado como una malla de metal desplegado transpa-
rente y oscura que sirve de cerramiento permeable para los recintos
técnicos en el piso 3º, al tiempo que crea una sombra que remarca la
condición de volumen suspendido al volumen de hospitalización.
• Fibrocemento tipo madera: Aprovechamos la calidez que otorga este
material para representar la imagen de los volúmenes de hospitaliza-
ción, la proponemos de forma opaca en las testeras y permeable
en los frentes de las habitaciones.
• Aluzinc: mediante persianas verticales conformadas por celosías ho-
rizontales que confieren una óptima protección solar, tanto al norte
como al poniente y que permiten al usuario disponer de una privacidad
controlada.
• El vidrio: Es un material clave dada la importancia que se otorga a la luz
en este proyecto. En los patios es el elemento predominante, en las fa-
chadas sur de los bloques de hospitalización están concebidas como
grandes muros cortina de vidrio que dan fachada a las circulaciones
de público, ofreciendo un punto privilegiado de presencia visual sobre
el entorno y permitiendo el acceso de gran cantidad de luz a los pasi-
llos técnicos de las unidades de hospitalización. Todo el estándar
de cristales, son DVH tipo Termopaneles.

Building materials
Materials used to shape the volumes were the result of the balance between
functionality, durability and warmth, brought together with system of court-
yards and skylights which allow the incorporation of natural lighting, even at
underground parking lots, defining warm and pleasant spaces very distant
from the traditional concept of hospital facilities. These concepts reinforce
the status of Friend Hospital.
The groups of materials are as follows:
• Exposed concrete: It is the main material of the plinth, more opaque
on the sides (with small vertical rips to control the eastern and western
sun) and more permeable on the front, through large structural con-
crete walls that provide the façade with rhythm and dynamism while
acting as a visual filter for public interior spaces.
• Steel: Used as a mesh of transparent and dark deployed metal that ser-
ves as a permeable enclosure for technical premises on the 3rd floor,
while creating a shadow that highlights the condition of suspended
volume.
• Wood type asbestos cement: We take advantage of the warmth of this
material to represent the image of hospitalisation volumes, opaque on
the main facades and permeable in the closing walls.
• Aluzinc: Vertical blinds formed by horizontal louvers that confer op-
timum sun protection, both to the north and the west side providing
users with controlled privacy.
• Glass: It is a key material given the importance of light in this project.
It is the key item at courtyards; southern facades of the hospitalisation
blocks are conceived as large glass curtain walls allowing public flow,
offering a privileged view of the environment and allowing the access
of large amount of light to technical corridors of the hospitalisation
units. Glazing is DVH type Thermopanels.

CONSIDERACIONES DE ACCESIBILIDAD PRELIMINAR PARA LA DEFIN-

Se privilegiaron los accesos principales al Hospital desde la Av. Camino a
Rinconada, logrando de esta manera sus ingresos por la meseta ubicada
en la cota más baja del predio. Estos accesos son:

CONSIDERACIONES GENERALES DE ARQUITECTURA SUSTENTABLE
El nuevo Hospital de Maipú construido por el Consorcio SANJOSE -
Tecnocontrol S.A., responde a las líneas principales de la propuesta ar-

medioambientales, tanto del proceso de ejecución como en conceptos pa-
sivos y activos propios del edificio final construido.
Las pautas que confluyen en la eficiencia medioambiental del nuevo Hospi-
tal de Maipú se resumen según los siguientes puntos genéricos:
Pautas de diseño pasivo:
a. E
 studio del entorno: asoleamientos, vistas y accesibilidades posibles,
resaltando las opciones de baja densidad respecto al entorno, y con-
siderando la existencia de una extensa área verde colindante.
b. E
 studio de orientaciones: con el fin de ubicar correctamente las dis-
tintas piezas que componían el hospital (servicios internos, hospita-
lizaciones, servicios públicos, accesos, etc.), dirigiéndolas siempre
hacia las zonas claramente asoleadas (Norte) los espacios comunes
y públicos, así como las zonas de hospitalización de modo que esta-
blecer un eje principal este- oeste.
c. C
 riterios de expansión de la edificación: de tal manera que la com-
posición de servicios encuentre espacios abiertos al exterior, con ni-
veles adecuados de iluminación y ventilaciones naturales mediante
patios interiores y disminución de superficies construidas, además se
generan lucernarios en el terreno existente con el fin de incluir estos
dos conceptos en las plantas subterráneas: luz y vistas al exterior,
constantes en todo el edificio, lo que contribuye a aumentar la sen-
sación de confort.

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS OF SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE
The new Hospital of Maipu executed by the Consorio SANJOSE -
Tecnocontrol S.A., responds to the main architectural guidelines of the pro-
posal of Bbats Consulting & Projects SLP and Murtinho & Asociados Arqui-
tectos, among which highlight, environmental criteria, both regarding the
execution process and the passive and active concept of the final building.
Environmental efficiency guidelines of the new Hospital of Maipu may be
summarised according to the following issues:
Passive design guidelines:
a. Study of the environment: potential sunlight, views and accessibility,
highlighting low density options with respect to the environment, and
considering the existence of an extensive surrounding green area.
b. Orientation study: in order to correctly allocate the different parts of
the hospital (internal services, hospitalisation, public services, access,
etc.), always placing common and public spaces, as well as hospitali-
sation units, towards the sunny areas (North) creating an eastern-wes-
tern axis.
c. Expansion of the building: in such a way that all spaces are open to
the outside, with adequate levels of lighting and natural ventilation
through inside courtyards and reduced built-up areas, as well as skyli-
ghts executed in the terrain so as to include these two concepts in
underground floors: lighting and exterior views, increasing the feeling
of comfort.

d. O  rganización funcional de la propuesta arquitectónica: se estable-
ció relaciones indisociables entre servicios, economía de recorridos
y composiciones interior-exterior que permitían el entendimiento ágil
de la composición del edificio por parte de los usuarios.
e. Piel del edificio: determina el grado de intercambio energético con
el exterior, se estudió su composición según orientación y grado de
protección (materialidades), así como la imagen que se tendría del
cómputo global del edificio, en este caso, buscando la durabilidad de
un edificio público y la domesticidad de sensaciones de sus usuarios.
f. Protecciones del edificio: frente a radiaciones excesivas, mediante
voladizos y quebrasoles que reduzcan la exposición solar en puntos
conflictivos.
Pautas del proceso constructivo:
g. Cumplimiento estricto de las disposiciones establecidas en la decla-
ración de impacto ambiental (día), realizando seguimiento en obra y
revisión al finalizar la ejecución del hospital.
h. Utilización de elementos prefabricados en el montaje de fachadas,
acabados, etc., haciendo un seguimiento de la certificación de origen
de los materiales y de los métodos de producción.
Pautas de diseño activo (anteproyecto de especialidades):
i. Cada una de las especialidades, enfrentó la propuesta arquitectónica,
por medio de una pauta que incorpora el equilibrio y la eficiencia como
eje central. Esta visión, se llevó a cabo por medio de acciones que
determinan zonificaciones en las instalaciones de clima, complemen-
tándose con las variables propuestas por la arquitectura, otorgando
un sistema de control centralizado que abarca una gama importante
de recursos, entregando distintas opciones para la gestión eficiente
de ellos, incluyendo desde los proyectos de iluminación, pasando por
gases clínicos, sistemas eléctricos, clima, hasta ascensores.
j. Se consideraron métodos y propuestas que buscaban una baja manu-
tención y gasto energético, y que se complementaran con alta tecno-
logía para hacer más eficiente la manutención del edificio. Por ejem-
plo, el proyecto de Paisajismo planteó una serie de especies de bajo
consumo de agua y de poca manutención. Además, se complementó
con sistemas de riego que leen las necesidades de la especie en rela-
ción al estado atmosférico.
k. Para brindar mayores posibilidades a los proyectos de ser eficientes
energéticamente, se incorporaron colectores solares2 que comple-
mentaban a las calderas o boilers, mejorando el rendimiento de com-
bustible para la obtención de agua caliente.
l. Utilización de sistemas y elementos constructivos que mejoran rendi-
mientos energéticos y poseen una baja manutención.

d. Functional organisation of the architectural proposal: in such a way

increasing the feeling of comfort.
e. Skin of the building: determining the degree of energy exchange with
the exterior, its composition was studied according to orientation and
degree of protection (materials), as well as the image of the overall, in
this case, looking for durability of a public building and domesticity of
sensations of final users.
f. Protections of the building: against excessive radiation, by means of
cantilevers that reduce sun exposure at conflicting points.
Guidelines for the construction process:
g. Strict compliance with the provisions established in the environmental
impact statement (day), carrying out on-site monitoring and review at
the end of the hospital’s execution.
h. Use of prefabricated elements in the assembly of facades, finishes,
etc., monitoring the certification of origin of materials and production
methods.
Active design guidelines (preliminary draft of specialties):
i. Each of the specialties faced the architectural proposal through a pat-
tern that incorporates balance and efficiency as central axis. This vision
was carried out through actions that determine zoning through clima-
te facilities, complemented with variables proposed by architecture,
granting a centralised control system that covers an important range of
resources, providing different options for efficient management of the
same, from lighting projects, through clinical gases, electrical systems,
air conditioning to elevators.
j. Methods and proposals seeking low maintenance and re-
duced energy expenditure were considered, complemen-
ted by high technology to increase maintenance efficien-
cy. For example, the landscaping project raised a series of
species of low water consumption and low maintenance requirements.
Further, it was complemented with irrigation systems that read the
needs of the species in relation to the atmospheric state.
k. In order to provide a greater possibility for the projects to be energy
efficient, solar collectors complementing the boilers and improving
fuel efficiency for obtaining hot water were added.
l. Use of construction systems and elements that improve energy effi-
ciency and require low maintenance.

2.3 RELACIONES FUNCIONALES - FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
CRITERIOS GENERALES
Organización General
El hospital se organiza mediante dos grandes cuerpos edificados. Un
podio de cuatro alturas, dos sobre terreno natural y dos subterráneas, don-
de se ubican la totalidad de los servicios a excepción de las unidades de
hospitalización que son dos cuerpos independientes articulados, de dos
alturas sobre la meseta superior.
El podio, tanto en sentido vertical como horizontal (sección y planta) se
organiza por intermedio de un vestíbulo, que se repite en los niveles -1, 1º y
2º, el que se ubica en el eje de las plantas, de donde se desprende 2 partes
de ellas, una a cada lado del mismo por cada uno de los niveles.
El cuerpo de hospitalización, al tener un uso exclusivo, se organiza fácil-
mente con unidades de enfermería a ambos lados del eje marcado por los
ascensores de acceso a estas plantas.
La trama circulatoria se configura de la misma manera en ambos bloques
(podio y unidades), mediante dos circulaciones paralelas, una publica y
una técnica, se sitúan en la parte delantera y posterior de los edificios res-
pectivamente y sobre ellas van desembarcando las circulaciones verticales
igualmente especializadas, entre medio de ambas se sitúan los servicios
que son abordados por la parte técnica o por la zona publica, pero en sen-
tidos opuestos.
Objetivos:
- Asegurar una correcta secuencia asistencial.
- Consolidar mediante la propuesta física, el modelo de hospital que
plantea el programa médico arquitectónico de una topología organiza-
tiva de los servicios por uso intensivo.
- Resolver las tensiones de la actividad hospitalaria con una propuesta
de uso amable y domestico para el personal y los usuarios.
- Conseguir que la trama de circulaciones sean claras y sencilla, que sir-
van además de fácil entendimiento para los usuarios y personal, para
ahorrar gastos operativos en el transcurso de la vida útil del edificio.
Secuencia asistencial, los cuatro tipos principales:
- Emergencias:
Urgencias, RX, pabellones, partos, UCI.
- Hospitalización:
Admisiones, unidades de hospitalización, Exploraciones, Pabello-
nes, UCI.
- Atención Ambulatoria:
CCEE, Exploraciones Complementarias, Hospitales de DIA, Pabe-
llones de cirugía mayor y menor.
- Prestación de Servicios Generales
Unidades de producción, resto de servicios del hospital.

GENERAL CRITERIA
General Organisation
The hospital is structured around two large built bodies. A four-storey pla-
tform, two floors on the ground and two underground floors, which houses
almost all services with the exception of inpatient stay units which are arran-
ged into two two-storey independent bodies on the upper plateau.
The platform, both vertically and horizontally (section and floor) is structure
around a lobby, which is repeated at levels -1, 1 and 2, located in the axis
of the floor, from where floor are arranged into two part, one on each side
on every level.
The inpatient stay area, having exclusive use, is easily organised with nur-
sing units on both sides of the axis where access lifts are located.
Traffic flow is arranged in the same way in both blocks (platform and units),
by means of two parallel traffic flows, one public and one technique, in
the front and rear part of the buildings, respectively and from where a ne-
twork of vertical corridors are articulated. Technical and public services are
located in the middle, yet in opposite directions.
Goals:
- To ensure an adequate sequence of care.
- To consolidate, through the physical proposal, the hospital model su-
ggested by an architectural medical programme of an organisational
topology of services for intensive use.
- To solve out hospital activity stress through a friendly and domestic use
proposal for personnel and users.
- To ensure a clear and simple traffic flow, easy understandable by users
and staff members, to save operating expenses during the building’s
life.
Sequence of care. The four main types:
- Emergencies:
Urgencies, RX, pavilions, births, ICU.
- Inpatient stay:
Admissions, inpatient stay units, consultations, pavilions, ICU.
- Outpatient Care:
Complementary Explorations, OlA, Pavilions of major and minor sur-
gery.
- Provision of General Services
Production units, outstanding hospital services.
In order to give a physical and correct answer to logical sequences in hos-
pitals, the following was proposed:
- To reconcile services that serve each of these functions, assigning exclu-
sive sectors to:

Con el fin de dar una respuesta física y correcta a estas secuencias lógicas
que se manifiestan en este tipo de hospitales, se propuso:
- Acercar al máximo los servicios que sirvieran a cada una de estas funcio-
nes, destinando sectores exclusivos para:
• Emergencias: en el sector oriente.
• Hospitalizaciones: en los cuerpos posteriores.
• Atención ambulatoria: en el sector poniente.
• Servicios generales: como base de apoyo a todos los servicios desde
la planta subterránea -1.
Uso Intensivo:
La trama circulatoria con mínimos recorridos, la ubicación estratégica y de
vecindad de los servicios respecto de su uso, permite centralizar activida-
des y aprovechar recursos sin necesidad de duplicar espacios físicos ni
equipos de personal técnico. En este sentido el hospital resuelve todas y
cada una de las solicitaciones funcionales que se requerían en el programa
médico arquitectónico, siendo las más evidentes la resolución del sector de
cirugía, el ambulatorio o el de servicios.
Carácter amable y domestico:
En este sentido el proyecto hizo dos claras propuestas:
- Separar el Vestíbulo de acceso - Admisiones de la zona comercial -
cafetería - salón de actos.
Comúnmente los proyectos hospitalarios sitúan conjuntamente en su
vestíbulo principal todas estas actividades, produciendo una situación
de tensión, ya que las actividades (Administrativas, Admisiones, Infor-
mación, Acceso de Visita, Esperas, etc.) donde el usuario y el personal
está en cuestiones muy específicas, se contradicen con una necesidad
más lúdica y de relación que se manifiestan en la Cafetería, el Salón de
Actos y los puestos comerciales.
Es por este motivo que se propuso la separación de estas dos zonas,
dejando en la zona alta, el acceso principal las Admisiones y lo Ad-
ministrativo, creando en la planta sótano un vestíbulo para entrega de
productos de farmacia, para el banco de sangre y espera del CRC. Con-
tinúa con una zona con puestos comerciales y concluye con una gran
zona de Cafetería y salón de Actos, todas ellas en contacto con el terre-
no natural, con la posibilidad de salida al exterior, formando un sitio de
calidad y esparcimiento para todo el hospital.
- La colocación de las unidades de enfermería en el sitio más alejado
del acceso y prácticamente independiente del resto del hospital sin
participar de las situaciones de convulsión y nerviosismo, situándose
casi en el centro del terreno a la manera de un modelo de pabellón ario
integrado en la zona verde, donde las habitaciones que se encuentran
a mas altura es la de una segunda planta, hace que le confiera un
carácter doméstico y tranquilizador a todas estas unidades, dada su
relación con el entorno de parque arbolado que es inmediato.

• Ambulatory care: in the western sector.
• General services: as support for all services from floor -1.
Intensive use:
Shortest traffic flow network, strategic location and proximity of services
with regards to use, allowing the centralisation of activities and taking ad-
vantage of resources without doubling physical or equipment nor person-
nel. In this sense, the hospital solves out each and every of the functional
requirements of the architectural medical programme, being the most re-
markable surgery, ambulatory care or services.
Friendly and domestic nature:
In this sense the project had two clear proposals:
- To differentiate lobby-admissions from the commercial-cafeteria-audi-
torium area.
Usually, hospital projects jointly place all these activities in the main lo-
bby, leading to stressful situations since the activities (management, ad-
missions, information, visitor access, waiting room, etc.) stand in conflict
with the recreational purpose of the cafeteria, meeting hall and the com-
mercial stalls.
It is for this reason that the separation of these two zones was proposed,
leaving in the upper area the main entrance, the admissions office and
management services and creating in the basement a pharmacy dispen-
ser, access to blood bank and CRC waiting room. It continues with com-
mercial premises and a large cafeteria and meeting hall on the natural
ground, with easy exit, creating a quality recreational area for the whole
hospital.
- The placement of the nursing units at the farthest point from the access
and practically independent from of the rest of the hospital unaware of
convulsion and nervousness, standing almost in the middle of the plot
as an Aryan pavilion integrated in the green area, where second floor
room are located, providing the area with a reassuring character due to
the close relationship with the wooded park setting.

RELACIONES FUNCIONALES POR PISO
Estructura de zonificación
La organización y distribución en 7 plantas, llevan a especializar cada uno
de los niveles en una función genérica principal. Esto es:
• Subterráneo -2: Estacionamientos.
• Subterráneo -1: Servicios Generales Internos.
• Planta Primer Piso: Zona Ambulatoria, Urgencia y Accesos
• Planta Segundo Piso: Zona quirúrgica y críticos.
• Plantas Tercero: Galerías técnicas y Hospital Psiquiátrico
• Cuarto y Quinto Pisos: Hospitalización.
En el sentido horizontal, también se agrupan los servicios, por su similitud
de uso, en ambas partes de una misma planta, las cuales se definen por
medio de un vestíbulo principal ubicado en el eje de simetría del edificio,
formando dos grandes zonas a cada lado de este vestíbulo, se configura
en:
- Planta Subte. -2: Estacionamientos
- Planta Subte -1: Esta planta está dividida en tres partes importantes:
la primera es la pública donde tenemos los servicios de cafetería,
área de Eventos, capacitación y la zona comercial, abiertos tanto al
Hospital como a la plaza exterior y por lo tanto al barrio. La segunda es
la de público/paciente, conectada al CRS y Hospital de día, todos ellos
con luz natural debido a los patios del Zócalo, extracciones, farmacia
de CRS, U.M.T. y los laboratorios. Y la tercera destinada a servicios
generales donde se distribuyen todos aquellos servicios internos de
funcionamiento del Hospital, como son la Cocina, almacenes, ande-
nes de carga y descarga, talleres, salas de lavado, etc., también en
esta zona están los servicios dirigidos al personal como vestuarios,
comedor de personal, sala-cuna, etc., estas áreas están siempre colo-
cadas junto a uno de los grandes patios del zócalo.
Sector poniente: Zona pública, CRC, zona comercial, salón de actos,
cafetería de público.
Sector oriente: Zona de Servicios generales, sanitarios y técnicos: far-
macia, laboratorios, anatomía patológica, abastecimiento, cocina, lim-
pieza, personal y esterilización.
- Planta Primer Piso: Es el eje de accesos al Hospital, ubicado prác-
ticamente en el centro del edificio, el Hall de acceso con su triple es-
pacio de conexión con el CRS, divide la planta en dos partes, una de
ellas la del CRS de Atención Ambulatoria con las admisiones y consul-
tas y la otra de atención hospitalaria con las unidades de Emergencia
y área de diagnóstico con imagenología. Al fondo del Hall están las
admisiones de hospitalización y el Hall de ascensores de público que
conectan todas las plantas por donde el público puede y debe llegar.
Zona poniente: Zona Pública Admisión CCEE, Rehabilitación.
Zona oriente: Área de Emergencias, Radiodiagnóstico.

FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS PER FLOOR
Zoning structure
The arrangement and distribution into 7 floors lead to specialise each level
in a main function. This is:
• Floor -2: Parking.
• Floor-1: General Internal Services.
• First Floor: Ambulatory Unit, Emergency Room and Main Access
• Second Floor: Surgical and critical area.
• Third Floor: Technical Galleries and Psychiatric Hospital.
• Fourth and Fifth Floor: Inpatient Stay.
Services are also grouped by their similarity of use horizontally, in both parts
of the same floor, which are defined by means of a main lobby located in
the axis of symmetry of the building, forming two large zones on each side
of the lobby:
- Floor -2: Parking
- Floor -1: This floor is structured into three important areas: the first area
corresponds to public services, including cafeteria, meeting hall, com-
mercial premises, accessible from both, the inside and the outside of
the hospital. The second area is public/patient, connected to the CRS
room and day care hospital, all with natural lighting due to the court-
yards of the plinth, extractions, CRS pharmacy, U.M.T. and laborato-
ries. The third area is devoted to general services of the hospital, such
as the Kitchen, warehouses, loading and unloading platforms, works-
hop, laundry, etc., as well as staff services, that is, dressing rooms, staff
dining room, living room, childcare, etc., these areas are always placed
next to one of the large courtyards of the plinth.
Western sector: public area, CRC, shopping area, auditorium, cafeteria.
Eastern sector, general, sanitary and technical services: pharmacy, labo-
ratories, pathology surgery, warehouse, kitchen, cleaning, personnel and
sterilisation.
- 1st Floor: It is the entrance axis of the Hospital, located in the centre of
the building, the entrance hall with its triple space of connection with
CRS divides the floor into two, on the one side CRS of outpatient care
with the outpatient admissions office and consultation units and on the
other side Emergency rooms and the diagnostic area. At the back of
the Hall, inpatient admissions office and the lifts connecting all floors.
Western sector: admissions office, Rehabilitation.
Eastern sector: Emergency room, Radiodiagnosis.

- Planta Segundo Piso: El Hall sigue desempeñando un papel divisorio
de la planta con su parte de Atención Ambulatoria CRS y la otra de
atención hospitalaria con los Pabellones y la UPC.
Sector oriente: Zona Ambulatoria, hospital de DIA Médico Quirúrgico;
Administración Hospital.
Sector poniente: Zona Quirúrgica, Pabellones de Partos y pacientes crí-
ticos.
- Planta Tercer Piso: Esta planta ocupa una posición muy importante
en el edifico, pues sirve de extensión del parque circundante, con la
cubierta ajardinada del zócalo. Integrando el entorno natural al edifico
y devolviendo al barrio parte del terreno ocupado por el Hospital. En
este nivel se colocan las salas técnicas para obtener un mejor aprove-
chamiento de los recorridos de instalaciones. Se hace coincidir esta
planta con la cota en altura de la meseta superior del terreno (cerrillo)
para poder conectar los recorridos por el parque con la cubierta ajar-
dinada, pero también para poder localizar aquellas unidades del PMA
que necesitaban desarrollar parte de sus actividades al aire libre como
son los patios para la Hospitalización de Psiquiatría.
- Planta Cuarto Piso: Se ha estableció un esquema básico de funciona-
miento de la Unidad de Hospitalización, organizándolas en grupos de
Habitaciones y respaldadas por elementos de apoyo propios. Asimis-
mo se han segregado las circulaciones propias de la Hospitalización
interna de las Públicas de aproximación de Familiares, la circulación
vertical pública se concentra en un único punto del pasillo de la Facha-

las vistas del parque circundante. La planta se divide en dos bloques
paralelos, pero desfasados por su eje longitudinal para favorecer la
iluminación, ventilación y vistas de las habitaciones.
En esta planta están las dos unidades Maternales, la unidad de pacien-
tes agudos y básicos infantiles, la unidad de neonatología, el SEDILE, la
unidad de paciente agudo adulto y sus administraciones.
- Planta Quinto Piso: Esta Planta surge como complemento necesario
a la Planta Segunda, y como esquema análogo al ámbito de Hospita-
lizaciones, utilizándose el mismo esquema compositivo de agrupación
de habitaciones en torno a elementos de apoyo propios. En este caso
se ubicaron las Unidades básicas de Hospitalización Medico Quirúrgi-
ca Adulto, y Pensionado.

- 2nd Floor: The Hall continues to play a divisive role, with outpatient care
on the one side and hospital care with the pavilions and CPU on the
other side.
Eastern sector: outpatient care, surgery day care hospital, admissions
office.
Western sector: Surgery unit, delivery rooms and critical patients.
- 3rd Floor: This floor develops an important role in the building, as it ser-
ves as an extension of the surrounding park with the garden roof of the
plinth. It is integrated into the natural environment, returning to the nei-
ghbourhood part of the land occupied by the Hospital. Technical rooms
are placed here in order to maximise installations. This floor matches
the height of the upper plateau (Cerrillo) in order to connect walking the
paths through the park with the garden roof, but also to house those
units of the WFP that need to develop part of their activities outdoors,
such as the Psychiatry Hospital courtyards.
- 4th Floor: A basic operational scheme for the inpatient stay unit has
been established, structured into groups of rooms and backed up by
support items. Public and inpatient stay flows have also been separa-
ted, public vertical traffic flow is concentrated in a single point in the
corridor of the southern facade. All rooms are facing the light and the
views of the surrounding park. The floor is divided into two parallel
blocks, but offset by its longitudinal axis so as to maximise natural ligh-
ting, ventilation and views.
This floor house two Maternal units, as well as the infant patients, neo-
natology, SEDILE, adult acute patient unit and related management ser-
vices.
- 5th Floor: This floor appears as a necessary complement to the second
floor, following a similar scheme to the inpatient area, using the same
room grouping scheme. It houses adult surgery inpatient basic units
and the retirement unit.
