PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

O God, our life, our strength, our food. Grant that we who have received the sacrament of
Christ’s body and blood may abide in him and he in us. Enliven us to be his body in the
world, that we will give you praise and serve your earth and its many peoples, now and
forever.
Amen.

  THE LORD’S PRAYER

For the distribution of Holy Communion, there will be two stations on the left and right side of the altar
table. Receive the bread in your hand and proceed to one of the stations with the cup. Sip the “common cup”
from the larger ceramic chalice, or Dip the bread into the small silver chalice. If you wish not to receive
communion, you are welcome to remain seated or to come forward and receive a blessing. Simply cross your
arms to signal for a blessing. ALL ARE WELCOME to receive the Lord’s Supper without exception.

4 17
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, GLORIA
and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for
the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This
cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of
sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup,
we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Remembering, therefore, his salutary command, his life-giving passion and death, his
glorious resurrection and ascension, and the promise of his coming again, we give thanks to
you, O Lord God Almighty, not as we ought but as we are able; we ask you mercifully to
accept our praise and thanksgiving and with your Word and Holy Spirit to bless us, your
servants, and these your own gifts of bread and wine, so that we and all who share in the
body and blood of Christ may be filled with heavenly blessing and grace, and, receiving the
forgiveness of sin, may be formed to live as your holy people and be given our inheritance
with all your saints.
To you, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
be all honor and glory in your holy church, now and forever.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Let us pray… Almighty God, you sent the apostles and the prophets to proclaim your word
and build your church establishing the ministry of Word and Sacrament to sustain and
nourish your people by your grace. Grant that your servant, James, now to be ordained to
this office, may carry out this ministry faithfully in the power of your Spirit; through your
Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.

THE WORD The assembly may be seated.

FIRST READING| Isaiah 55:6-13
A reading from the prophet Isaiah:
Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; 7let the
wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts; let them return to the LORD,
that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8For my
thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. 9For as the
heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts
than your thoughts.
10
For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there
until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower
and bread to the eater, 11so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not
return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing
for which I sent it.
12
For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills
before youshall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13Instead
of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it
shall be to the LORD for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

PSALM HYMN| Shepherd Me, O God based on psalm 23 ELW No. 780

A reading from St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans:

mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. 11Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in

GOSPEL| Mark 6:30-44

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark. Glory to you, O Lord.
30
The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. 31He
said to them, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while." For many
were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32And they went away in the
boat to a deserted place by themselves. 33Now many saw them going and recognized them,
and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. 34As he went
ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep
without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. 35When it grew late, his
disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now very late;
