Learning : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to :


Objectives
- match the punctuation marks with its correct usage.
- build simple sentences using the given punctuation marks.
- punctuate sentences and a short story correctly.
CCE : Language

Activities : Pre-Lesson: ( 10 mins)


1. Pupils and teacher greet and ask about each other well-being.
2. Invite pupils to play a quick game in which they guess the topic of the
lesson. They will look at the symbols that are on the board and make
connections to figure out the topic.
3. Paste symbols of a period, question mark, inverted commas, comma,
apostrophe, exclamation point and capital letters on the blackboard. Asks
the pupils the “What Am I?” question while pointing to each mark.
4. Get 7 pupils to volunteer to label the symbols using word cards.
5. Allow pupils to share their thoughts about the topic of the lesson, and
confirm that this lesson is about punctuation.

While- Lesson: (35 mins)


6. Activity 1 : 15 mins
 Teacher states the objective of today’s lesson and have pupils repeat it.

 Teacher asks the pupils one HOTS question as a kickstart :


Q: Why do you think we need punctuation in our writing?
E. A: Punctuation helps writers to separate sentences or express feelings
effectively in a writing.
E.A: Punctuation helps readers to understand writer’s writing easily.
 Teacher reviews punctuation usage and give examples of each by displaying
them using PPT slides.
 Next, teacher distributes matching worksheet to pupils to test their
understanding on the usage of each punctuation mark.
 Pupils need to exchange their worksheet with their friends next to them and
do peer assessment. State the score on the worksheet.

7. Activity 2 : 20 mins
 Teacher asks the pupils to get into their respective groups according to their
proficiency level. (5 groups of 6 pupils, 1 group of 4 pupils)

Task Differentiation:
Advanced
Group 1 and 2 - Build 1 example sentence for each given punctuation marks.
Intermediate
Group 3 and 4 - Punctuate the short story correctly.
Low
Group 5 and 6 - Punctuate the sentences correctly.
 Teacher walks around and monitors each group to ensure pupils collaborate
to do their work as directed.

Post Lesson ( 15 mins )


 Teacher asks each level to exchange work between groups and do peer
assessment.
 Next, each group have to share their completed work as a class.
 Get the pupils to rate each group presentation by using ‘Thumbs up” or
‘Thumbs down’ signal.
 Teacher asks the pupils one HOTS question :
Q: What will happen if you are using the wrong punctuation in your
writings/sentences?
E.A : It will change the intended meaning and lead to misunderstandings for the
readers.
E.A : It will affect the reader’s reading fluency. (pause, breath or raise voice)
