Overview of Part
Replacement
Overview
Description This chapter gives the part replacement overview of the ZXMBW
AGW.
Contents This topic includes the following topics.
Procedure to Replace
Boards
Description To ensure that ZXMBW AGW is able to provide services to the
subscribers non-stop, board replacement is conducted power-on
in most cases. Therefore, to ensure the running security of
equipment, and to reduce the impact of part replacement on
system functions to the minimum, the maintenance personnel
need to strictly observe the fundamental procedure described in
this manual when replacing parts, as shown in Figure 1.
Replace Components
Description After the relevant measures of technical protection are
confirmed to be in place, the personnel can follow the operation
procedure as described in this manual to replace the parts, such
as loading/unloading boards, and setting the DIP switches of
boards.
Cautions
Anti-static
Description As ZXMBW AGW carries a large amount of electronic parts and
PCBs, anti-static measures need to be taken during the entire
process of manufacturing, commissioning, transportation, and
storage. The main issues are as follows.
The maintenance personnel need to use specific anti-static
bags and boxes in the transportation and storage of boards,
to ensure the anti-static security.
In the process of carrying and loading/unloading boards, the
maintenance personnel need to wear anti-static wrist bands
that are properly grounded, and the grounding connector
should be plugged into the ESD (Electronic Discharge) hole.
The anti-static wrist band is not able to prevent the statics
caused by contact between clothes and the board; therefore,
the maintenance personnel should avoid contact between
clothes and the board during operations.
When the anti-static wrist band is under the normal working
state, its impedance should be between 1 and 10 Ohms
In the process of replacement, the maintenance personnel
should place all parts to be installed in the anti-static bag,
and place the temporarily unloaded parts on anti-static
foams.
Security Cautions
Description In the process of board replacement, physical operations by the
maintenance personnel in the foreground are necessary.
Therefore, personal securities need to be taken care of to avoid
accidents. Pay attention to the following issues.
The foreground uses -48V DC power. In the process of board
replacement, open the rear door with hot line work, be
careful of using the pliers, screwdrivers, and pincers in the
back of the shelf to avoid electric shock.
When replacing boards in high altitudes, use caution to avoid
falling over.
After unloading the board, do not direct contact with the
board, to avoid burns or scratches by components on the
board.
When boards of power supply need to be replaced, power
maintenance personnel need to be present to perform
inspections, and direct loading/unloading of power related
boards is strictly prohibited.
Equipment Security
Description There are two aspects to equipment security. First, there should
be no damages to the board in the process of board replacement,
such as bent backplane pins caused by reckless operations.
Second, impact on other boards and system services should be
avoided in the process. Specifically, pay attention to the
following issues.
Avoid reckless operations in the process of board
replacement, such as installation, unscrewing screws,
unloading boards, with brutal force.
When replacing boards that may interfere with services,
avoid peak times. Choose times when the traffic is the lowest,
such as early mornings.
For boards running in active/standby mode, avoid replacing
the active boards directly. Perform the swapping first,
replace the board when it turns to the standby state.
Regular In the process of installing boards, eject the board in case it can
Inspection not be pushed in by the latch, and perform the following
examinations:
1. If the installation slot agrees with the specified one.
2. If the board is deviated from the duct.
3. If the connector pins of the backplane are bent or damaged.
Common Operations in
Board Replacement
Prerequisites 1. Prepare the new board, and labels for the faulty board.
2. Notify the maintenance personnel of relevant departments to
perform preparations.
3. Usually the faulty board will be in the standby state
automatically. If it is not, switch it to the standby state, and

Replacing OMP
Purpose The OMP board is the operation/maintenance center of the
foreground, and it furnishes communication between the
foreground and the background. Its main functions include
distribution of operation commands, reporting of the foreground
status, reporting of performance data, and management of the
version file. OMPs in AGW need to be configured to be working in
the active/standby mode, And they must be configured at slot
11 and slot 12 in shelf 2 of rack 1.
When the OMP board faults, the effects on the system include as
follows:
Communication between the foreground and the background
breaks, and the alarm system prompts that the link between
them is broken.
It is unable to send commands to the foreground from OMC.
Performance statistics data can not be reported.
The status of other boards in the foreground can not be
queried, and the boards can not work properly after restart.
All the services of the local office are interrupted.
5. Wait for the ENUM light on the front panel of the board to
blink at 1HZ, turn the extractors outward to dislocate them
from the trough in the front beam, and pull out the board
gently, as shown in Figure 18.
11. Watch the running indicator lights of OMP. The first start
takes a longer time. After starting, OMP will download
version files from the OMC server automatically. The HD2
light of the hard drive will blink and the RUN light will blink
rapidly at the same time. After the version file is loaded, the
RUN light will switch to a slowly blinking state, and the ALM
light will go off at the same time. The corresponding alarm of
the network management system can be found to have
disappeared.
12. In the network management system, select the menu Daily
maintenance > Data Maintenance > Data transfer, in
Data Transfer interface, configure the Operation Type as
Transfer All Tables and Module List as All to send all
tables to OMP module 1 in the foreground. The data
transferred is only that of table volume.
13. After execution of the transferring operation, watch the HD2
light of the OMP board, and it can be found that it is in a
blinking state. Wait for approximately 5 minutes, the HD2
light will go off automatically after writing of table data
succeeds. Move to the foreground and hold RST of the OMP
board to restart the board.
14. After the restart of OMP succeeds, execute the Data
Transfer operation again to send all tables to OMP module 1
in the foreground. The data transferred this time includes all
records of the table.
15. Wait for approximately 5 minutes for OMP disk writing to
complete, restart the board again by holding RST on the
front panel
16. After the restart of OMP succeeds, execute the Data
Transfer operation for the third time to send all tables to
OMP module 1 in the foreground. This time the transferring
is to activate the transferred contents. Now the OMP board is
able to work properly.
17. Pack the replaced OMP board properly and label, send it to
ZTE for repair.
