RATIONALE FOR MAINTAINING „JOURNAL FOR
SUCCESS‟
“Man’s main task in life is to give birth to himself,
to become what he potentially is.
The most important product of his effort is his own personality .” -Erich Fromm

Dear Students,

In this fast-paced world, one finds it difficult to spare time to stop and reflect on various life events.
When this happens, it is possible that one feels that all the efforts and toil had gone in the wrong direction
and
one is still far away from his or her goal. The art of achieving goal lies in understanding our self, building
on our strengths and overcoming weaknesses. This facilitates the process of self awareness, self
acceptance and progression towards self reform.

Self reform is the key to Happiness. For this purpose, self enhancement from the experiential training
in Behavioural Science would facilitate self-awareness and develop better interpersonal skills to
achieve professional success.

To achieve professional success, skills required are ‘personal’. This experiential learning will enable
Individuals to gain insight into behavioral aspects of self-governance.

TheJournal for Success , as an integral part of the Behavioural Science course, is a tool for your
introspection, self-exploration and self governance. It involves your own initiative to reflect on
the discussions and activities during the various workshops of Behavioural Science courses. The process of
penning down personal learning from class exercises and discussions is in itself a valuable device for self-
awareness.
This Journal for Success may cover following information as a self report

• Personal self profile at the time of joining the course

• Your understanding of course content.
• Self-rating against personal enhancement skills
• Difficulties and obstacles in your personal development and learning the application of the subject.
• Experiences which one feel are relevant to your training for personal and professional enhancement
(specifically during the training period)

• Assessment of own self as an excellent professional after the training through Self-
Rating, Interventions and Self-Profiling.
This Journal would work as an assessment and evaluation tool for self-knowledge and would further
help you develop the ability to:
• Recognize the uniqueness and expression of yourself and that of others
• Inculcating the ability to accept self and others
• Communicate the awareness to yourself and others
• Monitor events in your life and make decisions for the present and future.

For successful completion of the Behavioural Science programme, you are required to write about your
experiences and learning from each activity & discussion during all workshops in this Journal. You
are required to inculcate these learning to effect positive change in your behaviour & personality.

Your Personal Journal will be reviewed at the end of each semester till the completion of the Programme. Self
Assessment, Self Analysis, Synthesis, Focus, Exploration, Honest Expression, Initiative and Consistency
are some elements that will help you to maintain this Personal Journal and enhance
Behavioural Skills for success in life.

Wishing you a great insightful learning experience…!

WHO AM I?
(Entry Level)
In the beginning of the program I was an extreme level
Introvert. I always used to get feared of unknown and
future. I used to hesitate in doing or participating in new
things. Also, I used to hesitate in meeting new people and
have a normal communication. Especially I used to
become a paranoid when the matter comes to establishing
a communication with the opposite gender person.
Lack of confidence was present horribly inside me which
wasted first year of my college time in actually dealing
with it. This also resulted in bad performance in public
speaking and in exams. I used to take stress on small
things that don’t even matter so much.
I was also a victim of anger and its negative consequences.
I was that person with the attitude of saying YES all the
time and then realizing its negative consequences later on.
I was a shy person who rarely likes to be in a conversation
with anyone.
That time I was good in studying and concentrating on
things. I was also great in learning new language and using
it.
ABOUT YOURSELF
I) WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGHTS AND WEAKNESSES?
Weaknessess- Strengths-
1. Disorganized 1. Creative
2. Shy/Not adept at public speaking 2.Patient
3. Not skilled at delegating tasks 3, Honest
4. Take on too much responsibility 4. Detail oriented

II) ABOUT YOUR GOALS:

In the short term, one of my goals is to continue developing my writing skills. I want to help brands become world-class publishers.
In addition, I’ve been raising my hand for more public speaking assignments, since I know that written and verbal communication
skills often work together. I would love to apply this skill set to a company as a thought leader in this industry.

III) YOUR ROLE MODEL (STATE SPECIFIC REASON FOR THE SAME):
Warren Buffet is my role model because of the reason that he still pays himself $100,000 a year which can be taken as a great example of self-control and
money management. Warren Buffett lives modestly. He pays himself a salary of $100,000 per year, which is less than the median earnings of most
professionals. He does this because he does not believe in excess spending. He eats out and enjoys life, but has elected to not build out the infrastructure of
ridiculous consumption and a large group of hangers-on. A national study found that the average American believes that $70,000 per year would be a huge
income and, apparently, Buffett shares this opinion.

IV) ONE BOOK WHICH HAS INSPIRED YOU THE MOST AND WHY?
Steve Siebold has written an excellent book titled How Rich People Think. This book will teach you how rich people think. It compares the thoughts, habits
and philosophies of the middle class to the world class when it comes to wealth. The differences are as extreme as they are numerous. The strategy is simple:
learn how rich people think, copy them, take action and get rich. This book hits hard and never lets up. It is a must read and should be added to your personal
development library.

V) WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE OUT OF YOUR RESPECTIVE PROGRAMME?

From my programme I would like to receive the ways of solving global business problems. Travel to developed and emerging economies to learn about
business in diverse regions. Gain cultural and social insights that will prepare you to lead people and organizations located around the globe—with a focus on
building sustainable and socially responsible organizations. Learn management and entrepreneurial skills, with a focus on global business.
Champion corporate sustainability by protecting the world’s environment and people while meeting profit goals. Learn how to make holistic, strategic, and
operational decisions focused on corporate sustainability, which balances profits with societal needs and the environment. Explore complex global problems
and business cases that force you to examine and define your values related to corporate ethics, corporate governance and social responsibility.
Increase effectiveness as a global manager by developing your appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures by studying their art, history, politics, social
norms and food.

VI) WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FROM THE BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCE COURSE?
Behavioral Science course actually can help me to understand the other person as most of the times people generally don’t understand why a person is acting
to doing something that you don’t want. This course actually talks about how the behavior in a normal person changes as per the situation and give the other
person an idea to deal with his next steps. Interpretation of mind is the key function of this course.
Not only this, the course also helps in understanding ourselves. Who, what, how are we can be understood by this course. This actually helps us to understand
whatever we are thinking has a particular reason and that is supposed to be found in order to either correct the thinking or upgrading it. And any step after
finding the main reason may act as a great help to take good decisions.

DRAW AND DESCRIBE, in the space provided here, anything that you like the most:

I like writing my diary

the most. This is the favorite task I can do to keep myself busy and to take some time from my
busy schedule. Writing a diary for me is a great experience and generally it helps me to tell every
truth related to me to a non-living object. Keeping the truths or thoughts of my mind for a longer
period of time is difficult for me. Writing a diary helped me to improve the standards of my writing
skills and also provided me something with whom I can share all of my secrets and truths.
As discussed in the beginning of the JFS because of my shy nature and hesitation to tell anyone my
opinions forced me to get someone whom I can tell my stories, dramas, happiness, glooms and
pleasures. On every birthday (since 2012) my parents used to gift me a diary with a special pen.
And after that every next year I used to get new diary and before writing anything in that I love to
read the past diary and to find out how I and my environment changed me in the past 365 days.
My diaries are backup of my memories and it always helps me whenever I find myself in a
situation that I have faced before. Not only this, my diary also shows how I evolved and how my
thoughts changed periodically. Finally, I just want to say expression of the emotions and opinions
is necessary otherwise a person will get overloaded with the stress of keeping their stress in the
mind.
LEARNING FROM THE WORKSHOPS : SEMESTER WISE
(BELOW GIVEN FORMAT TO BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED)

MODULE: Group Dynamics and Team Building

NAME OF THE ACTIVITY: Worksheets on Understanding Group and Teams, Group

Cohesiveness and Motivation as a leader

OBJECTIVES OF THE ACTIVITY:

The objective of providing the worksheet to the students was to
- To inculcate in the students an elementary level of understanding of group/team functions
- To develop team spirit and to know the importance of working in teams
- To develop a leader with high motivation for its team members

PERSONAL LEARNING FROM THE ACTIVITY:

From the worksheets I learnt following things about myself-
i. The activities helped me to know that whatever the powers are given to me are known to
me well and I use them perfectly. Also I can compromise a lot to make the goals
achievable.
ii. The group which is mine has a slightly better cohesiveness as the efforts of mine as well as
the efforts of members are mostly towards making the group integrated all the time and
not to leave any person alone in his race.
iii. From the last worksheet it got cleared that I usually practice motivation a lot however I
used to reduce the number of opportunities to motivate my team which may cause some
sort of troubles in achieving the group goals.
WHO AM I?
(EXIT LEVEL- Last Semester of the respective Programme)
In the last level of the program my mind and personality has changed dramatically.
Now every character that has been mentioned in last self-analysis page is opposite in
this time. Now I am no longer an extreme level introvert but not a fully developed
extrovert. I possess some qualities of both. Fear of unknown now is a joke for me. Now
I have gained enough confidence to deal with any situation and any circumstance. A
fear of failure has also gone.
Now I don’t hesitate to communicate with new people or with people whom I have
talked rarely. Also the hesitation of talking to the opposite gender has gone and now I
am able to initiate the communication with them at my own. My anxiousness in public
speaking is almost gone still I have to learn many things to become a great performer.
Now I don’t go angry over the things. Instead I find the ways to either remove it or
break it. Also my shy nature is diminishing on daily basis and now I feel quiet confident
in keeping my opinions in front of others.
Also during this developmental process of mine I met a manipulative person and
realized it later on. Then I was able to deal with him and in that process I became a
dominant person .
MY LEARNING EXPERIENCES

I) Behavioral Science Course has helped me: to understand various concepts of

management and dealing with personal problems. Having an information about the
behavioral pattern of a rational individual at a particular point of time is helpful to
manipulate the situations accordingly. The problems will always be there if you are dealing
with people at professional or at personal level. So understanding type of a person’s behavior
is necessary.

II) Behavioral Skills that I inculcated in my Personality:

i. Self awareness
ii. Improvement in decision making quality
iii. Self motivation
iv. Goal reaching strategy building
v. Controlling others behaviour

III) Key learning (based on class activities, role plays, discussions, analysis etc.):
i. Importance of managing the time for self efficiency as any imbalance may either harm the
emotional side or the career side
ii. Dealing with the situation is necessary and there should be no option to leave if the situation
can be conquered if made some more efforts
iii. Communication is necessary to understand self as well as others as it provides the two way
transfer of information. This also makes listening more important to analyze the situation.
iv. An individual has to learn how to behave in a particular area in order to respect the culture of
that area and being normal for them.

IV) My Difficulties & Confusions in learning & application of Behavioural Skills:

i. I was having the confusion in understanding the self part of behavioural skill as there were
too many methods which used to make me confused about their functioning and their
purpose.
ii. Problem solving initials were difficult to understand as identifying what is causing the
problem was a long time process and requires time to come up with the real problem.
iii. To reach goals I faced lots of failures as most of the time my strategies were wrong but in the
end I know about building the best strategy
INFORMATION ABOUT PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

1) What did I do well (Both inside & outside the class):

Inside Class: I carefully learnt each and every concept of the behavioural science and its actual
use and application. Also I noted some of the important points that were necessary for me if I
was going to deal with this in real time.
Outside Class: At some point of time I actually faced those situations under which I was
supposed to behave in a particular manner in order to deal with it. So I was able to test as well
as apply the theories and most of time it worked well.

2) Shortcomings I perceived about myself: .

1. Disorganized
2. Shy/Not adept at public speaking
3. Not skilled at delegating tasks
4. Take on too much responsibility

3) How my strengths are restricted by my shortcomings:

1. My creativity skill got affected because of my shy nature. I was able to give many new ideas
and was able to develop new ways of doing things but shyness restrained me to communicate
my ideas with other and later n this gets converted into not believing on others.
2. My patience for looking major things happening got disturbed because of my disorganized
nature. To keep patience it necessary to keep things and works at their place and make them
easily accessible when needed. Its lack affected this strength.
3. Detail oriented nature promoted more responsibilities on me which made the work stressful
for me. Working with detail is necessary but this thing also comes with various levels of
responsibilities that are associated with it.

4) My initiatives to overcome such shortcomings:

i. To deal with the shyness I started making myself more confident and started doing the
tasks in which I was feeling feared or bad in performing. To overcome my
shortcomings I tried to do it with my best efforts.
ii. To deal with disorganized nature I started keeping my own valuable at their respective
place and created a sequence and a routine to keep them at their required place which
is somewhat helping me to organize things properly.
iii. Now also I focus on details but this time I look only for those details to which I can
reach easily and can be afforded in the given timeframe. Time taking details are mostly
avoided by me.
