One of the primary concerns Philippines has to encounter upon the realization of ASEAN
Integration is education. Because of the changes it has to brace itself to such as economic
changes, foreign policy impact, socio-cultural diversity and dynamism, and corporate
leadership system changes, the Filipinos should be prepared and ready with necessary and
competent skills and adaptability. Education is one of the responsible pillars that shape
Filipinos. That is why it is a necessity for our schools, especially higher education schools, to be
enhanced and developed.
It is now 2014, and 2015 is just a couple of months away. The questions that we have in
our minds right now is are the schools of higher education of the Philippines well-prepared?
Schools start to shift their academic calendar even though they are still not prepared for the
integration, as evidenced by lack of research and plans for the next movements and decisions.
Because of the lack of action of CHED, the students, of course, are expected to suffer since
they are the primary stakeholders of the ill-prepared plans and decisions by their school
administrations.
Student governments or student councils are expected to act.
This will be the first ever three-part summit that will focus on the effects of ASEAN
Integration on Philippine higher education system and initiate the mobilization of student
leaders for a start of multi-sectoral standardization of different higher education schools in the
country. It is expected to educate, inspire, and move the students to turn their stands into
action. The summit will be composed by different student council representatives from various
schools, school admin representatives, youth leaders, experts on education, and the concerned
government ministries. These are the following phases:
II. Objectives:
State what you intend to address through this activity – the expected outputs of

Integration to Philippine Higher Education.
3) To educate and inspire students about the significance of, and their power in actualizing
avenues for student involvement in the decision-making process of their universities for the
preparation for ASEAN Integration.
4) To achieve and establish long-term social movement treaty among student council leaders
for the benefit of Philippine higher education system through their power and initiative
