Thinking of Our Sisters

Patti Wingate still needs our thoughts and prayers as she
continues to heal from her broken kneecap. She is wearing a
knee stabilizer which means she cannot bend her knee at all.
Patti is able get around using a walker and says that she will
attend the May 5th meeting. Her doctor says that she will be
released from his care on July 4, 2018, her own independence!
Please keep Aldene Lee in your prayers after the loss of her
husband, Eddie Lee. Sadly, Eddie passed not even one year
after their son, Weston Lee, left this earth. Contact info: PO

Psi State President Visits Xi Chapter

Virginia McChesney, Psi State President, visited Xi
Chapter during its March 3rd meeting at Stonebridge.
She spoke to the sisters, telling of the upcoming Spring
Leadership Training Conference and Leadership
Seminar I, commenting on their great worth. It was
very evident from listening to Virginia that she loves
DKG and what it represents. The President enjoyed
browsing the Spring Silent Auction and purchased
some of Aldene Lee’s delicious cheese straws. Xi
Chapter presented Virginia with a gift from Livi &
Company in appreciation of her visit. A big thank you
to Sandra Yerby for picking her up from Rome and
taking her back home!
Xi Chapter held a very successful World
Fellowship Silent Auction. As always, we
thank Mary Shapard and Janice Sheppard who
hosted the event, and the DKG sisters who
contributed items, bought the goodies, and
made generous donations. A total of $650 was
raised for World Fellowship, which will be
greatly appreciated as it allows women from
third world countries to attend colleges in the
US. A wide variety of items were for sale
including cakes, cheese straws, books, wooden
door hangers, and various Easter decorations.
A great job well done!

Purposes
Twelve women met in 1929 on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin with
noble aspirations to build an organization to promote women in education and bring
recognition and respect to their profession. The result of their planning was the
founding of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. These Founders created a
list of five Purposes which were intended to guide the organization. This number later
grew to seven. These Purposes are as relevant today as they were in 1929.
To Unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship
To Honor women who have given of who evidence potential for distinctive service in
any field of education.
To Advance the professional interest and position of women in education
To Initiate, Endorse, and Support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors
in the interests of education and of women educators
To Endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate
study and to grant fellowships to women educators from other countries
To Stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their
participation in appropriate programs of action
To Inform the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues
so that they may participate effectively in a world society
