OVERALL TREND ANALYSIS

Trends in History
 For the first time in the last four years, Art and Culture has the most number of questions from History
surpassing Modern India.
 Art and Culture holds three questions followed by Modern India which has two.
 There was no question from World History which is unique in the last four years.
Trends in Society
 The questions were predominately customised from each part of the syllabus

 There was a neat spread across the different topics except for population and urbanisation related areas

 The trend of connecting two areas in a question continues as in “globalisation and culture”, “women and lower
class”, “communalism and deprivation”, etc.

 Women questions which had appeared under History in 2016, 2017 have been brought back into the society
related questions this year

Trends in Geography
 Geography continues to dominate GS Paper I with eight questions out of twenty for the third successive year
since 2016.

 Four out of eight questions are from the Current Affairs section.

Overall

 Compared to the previous year, the question paper did not throw surprises in terms of variation in marks. It
followed the same pattern of last year where the first 10 questions were valued for 10 marks and the next 10
questions for 15 marks

SHANKAR IAS ACADEMY
 There influence of Current Affairs has become significant and the consistency of this section in the last four
years shows that integrated preparation along with Static portion is necessary.

 The 10 mark answers were broad and gave more scope for answer writing thus challenging the time available for
15 mark answers.
