General instructions-
(a) All questions are compulsory.
(b) There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided.
(c) Q1 to 5 carry 1 mark each.
(d) Q6 to 12 carry 2 marks each, Q13 to Q24 carry 3 marks each, and Q25 to 27 carry 5
marks each.
(e) Use of calculator is not permitted.

1. What is the difference between 4.0 and 4.000?

2. A ball whose kinetic energy is E, projected at angle of 450 to the horizontal. What is the K.E. of
the ball at the highest point of its flight?
3. Why an athlete runs some steps before taking a jump?
4. Why wheels are made circular? Explain.
5. Name the rotational analogue of force. Give its SI unit.
6. Describe the method to find the distance of star from the earth?
7. Convert 10 erg into joule using dimensional analysis.
8. A bullet of mass 0.04 kg moving with a speed of 90 m/s. enters a heavy wooden block and is
stopped after a distance of 60 cm. what is the average resistive force exerted by the block on the
bullet?
9. Two forces whose magnitude are in the ratio 3:5 N. if the angle of inclination is 600. Find the

11. A light weight and heavy weight body have equal kinetic energies. Which one has larger
momentum?
12. Angular momentum of a system is conserved if its M.I. is changed. Is its K.E. also conserved?
13. Derive Newton’s first and third law from Newton’s second law of motion. No external force is
required to move a body with constant velocity. Explain.

14. Define absolute error. The period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is T = 2π√ . Measured
𝑔
value of L is 40.0 cm known to 1 mm accuracy and time for 100 oscillations of the pendulum is
found to be 90 s using a wrist watch of 1 s resolution. What is the accuracy in the determination
of g?
15. The time of oscillation t of a drop of a liquid under surface tension T depends upon the density d.
𝑑𝑟3
the radius r and the surface tension T. Prove dimensionally that t α √ 𝑇
.
16. What is a projectile? Obtain an expression for (1) maximum height (2) time of flight.
17. What is work - energy theorem? Does it valid for variable force? Proof it mathematically.
18. Define limiting friction. A mass of 4 kg rests on a horizontal plane. The plane is gradually
inclined at an angle ϴ = 30⁰ with the horizontal, to slide. What is the co-efficient of static friction
between the block and the surface?

19. Derive the third equation of motion V2 = U2 + 2aS. By graphical method.

20. Find the center of mass of a uniform L-shaped lamina (a thin flat plate) with dimensions
as shown. The mass of the lamina is 3 kg.

21. Define scalar product of two vectors. Find the components of A = 3 i +2 j along the
direction of i + j and i – j.
22. Why the work done by centripetal force is zero? If the momentum of body increases by 20%.
What will be the increase in the kinetic energy of the body?
23. State conservation of angular momentum. If earth contracts to half its radius, what would be the
duration of day?
24. Define angular momentum. Establish the relationship between torque and angular momentum.
25. Define potential and kinetic energy of a body. Show that mechanical energy of a body is
conserved, when it freely under the action of gravitational field.
(OR)
Discuss the elastic collision of two bodies in one dimension. Calculate velocities of the bodies
after the collision. Discuss what happens when the both the bodies are of equal masses.

26. (a) A projectile is fired at an angle 𝜃 with the horizontal with velocity u. Derive the
expression for the path of trajectory of the projectile.
(b)The velocity of a particle is v = (4t3 - 2t + 2) m/s. Find the displacement and
acceleration at t = 5 sec.
(OR)
a) State the parallelogram law of vector addition .Two vectors A and B are inclined each
other at angle ϴ. Find magnitude and direction of their resultant by using this law.
b) Two equal vectors have their resultant equal to either of them. Calculate at what angle are
they inclined to each other?
27. (a)Derive an expression for the maximum velocity required for a car on a banked road by
taking into account the force of friction for safe turn.
(b)What is the need of banking for tracks?
(OR)
(a)State the laws of limiting friction.
(b) Two blocks of masses 4 kg and 6 kg are placed on a smooth horizontal surface as
