eNSP Usage Guide

Principles
The enterprise network simulation platform (eNSP) can simulate devices such as PCs, hubs,
clouds, and frame relay (FR) switches. It can also simulate most features of Huawei enterprise
routers and switches. You can quickly learn Huawei commands through device configuration
simulation. You can also simulate the obtaining of packet headers on interfaces to understand
the exchange process of various protocol packets.
eNSP provides graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and supports operations such as topology
creation, modification, deletion, and saving. It also supports device dragging and interface
connecting and uses different colors to represent the different operating statuses of devices
and interfaces. Many project cases have been preset in eNSP and can be opened to learn more
about such cases.
eNSP supports standalone and multi-device versions. Standalone refers to deployment on just
one terminal, and multi-device refers to the server side being deployed on multiple servers in
distributed mode. The maximum network scale that can be simulated for multi-device
networking scenarios is 200.Huawei's eNSP is completely free, and can be directly
downloaded and installed without applying for a license. eNSP can be used free of charge by
beginners, professionals, students, teachers, and technicians.

Objectives
⚫ Understand what eNSP is.
⚫ Understand various eNSP functions.
⚫ Use eNSP to open the exam paper. (Appendix)
⚫ Use eNSP to check the exam paper. (Appendix)
⚫ Use eNSP to create network topologies and perform test operations.

Appendix: Performing Basic VRP Operations

Principles
Versatile Routing Platform (VRP) is a versatile network operating system (OS) for Huawei
data communication products and features a consistent network interface, UI, and
management interface. In the VRP, you can enter a variety of commands through the CLI to
configure and perform routine maintenance operations on the device.
After you log in to a router, the displayed command line prompt indicates that you have
entered the CLI. The CLI is a common tool used to interact with routers.
When entering a command, if you do not remember a command keyword or command
parameters, you can obtain all or some of them using the command line help function. You
can also use hotkeys to enter the corresponding command, simplifying the operation. During
the first login to the device, complete the required basic configurations such as entering the
device name, configuring the clock, and setting header information.

Objectives
⚫ Understand basic VRP operations
⚫ Master command line view switching
⚫ Master command line help and the relevant hotkeys
⚫ Change the device name and configure the clock
⚫ Set header information
⚫ View the basic information of a router

Scenario
This experiment simulates the process of a user running the VRP for the first time. After
logging in to the router, the user configures the device using the CLI. Command line view
switching, command line help, and hotkeys can all be used at this point, and basic device
configurations can be completed, such as changing the router name, setting the router clock,

5. Use hotkeys.
The CLI provides the basic command editing function, which allows multi-line editing.
The maximum length of each command is 256 characters. The following list details the
relevant hotkeys:
− BackSpace deletes the character immediately to the left of the cursor position.
− The left arrow key  or Ctrl+B move the cursor to the left by one character position.
− The right arrow key → or Ctrl+F move the cursor to the right by one character
position.
− Delete deletes the character immediately to the right of the cursor position.

eNSP Usage Guide

− The up and down arrow keys  and  scroll through historical commands.
− Pressing Tab after entering a string runs the partial help function and completes the
predicted command. For example, if you enter dis and then press Tab, the system
will complete the display command.
<R1>dis
<R1>display

Using the display hotkey command, you can view the status of the defined, undefined,
and reserved hotkeys.
6. Change the router name.
When multiple devices need to be managed on a network, you can set a specific name
for each device to more conveniently manage and identify these devices.
In the system view, run the sysname command to change the current router name. In the
following example, the system name of the current router is changed to R1.
[Huawei]sysname R1
[R1]

7. Set the router clock.

To ensure that a device on the network has an accurate clock signal, you need to
accurately set the system clock of the device.
Use the clock datetime command to set the current time and date. Use the clock
timezone command to set the time zone.
Example: In the user view, the clock datetime command is run to change the system
time and date to 11:23:24 on March 21, 2017.
<R1>clock datetime 11:23:24 2017-03-21

Example: In the user view, the clock timezone command is run to set the time zone to
Beijing.
<R1>clock timezone BJ add 08:00:00

NOTE
By default, the system adopts London time. The Beijing time zone is UTC+8 time zone, a time offset
increase of 8. Therefore, during configuration you need to increase the offset by 8 to implement the
expected Beijing time zone. To ensure the accuracy of the clock, you should configure the system time
zone before configuring the system date and time.
8. Set the header information.
If you need to provide alerts or instructions to users who log in to a router, you can set
the header information, which is displayed during login or after a successful login.
Example: The header login command is run to set the header text that displays during
login to hello. The header shell command is run to set the header text that displays after
a successful login to Welcome to Huawei certification lab.
[R1]header login information "hello"
[R1]header shell information "Welcome to Huawei certification lab"

The header login command sets the header text that is displayed when the user connects
to the terminal during the router login authentication process, when the user connects to
the router, logs in, and starts configuration. The text is displayed before the user has
logged in, and so can provide pertinent information that may be helpful to a user during
or before login and configuration. The header shell command sets the header text that is
displayed on the user terminal after a session between the user and the device is
successfully established.
After the configurations are complete, the header text will display as intended by using
the CLI to log out of the router and then start another login attempt.
