Abu Dhabi, October 2, 2018: The medical laboratory at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital – the
UAE’s only children’s hospital – has been successfully accreditation by the College of American
Pathologists (CAP), one of the global leaders in laboratory quality assurance and accreditation. This
onsite laboratory is operated in cooperation with National Reference Laboratory (NRL), and delivers
specialized diagnostic services that inform treatment plans and improve outcomes for the hospital’s
important pediatric patients.

“We are proud that our laboratory has received this recognition from one of the global leaders in
laboratory accreditation, the College of American Pathologists. Every day we focus our efforts on
making our hospital extraordinary to eliminate any stress or anxiety that might affect the children
being treated here, or their families. Our laboratory – operated in cooperation with National Reference
Laboratory - is key to making our operations more efficient, as it ensures we are delivering swift,
reliable and accurate laboratory services to the highest quality standards that help our qualified
paediatric doctors determine the best-possible treatment plans for the little heroes we treat,” said Dr.
Mohamed Al Awadhi, Chief Operating Officer at Al Jalila Children’s.

Al Jalila Children’s laboratory is the ninth in National Reference Laboratory’s network of laboratories
to receive the CAP’s world-renowned accreditation, reinforcing NRL’s position as the largest network
of CAP-accredited laboratories in the Middle East.

Mr. Abdul Hamid Oubeisi, Chief Executive Officer at National Reference Laboratory commented, “Our
role as the largest network of CAP-accredited laboratories in the Middle East is something we take
very seriously. This is why we work tirelessly with our laboratory-managed partners to prepare them
for a successful CAP inspection one year after assuming responsibility at their facility. For this reason,
we are very pleased that the excellent standards at the laboratory of Al Jalila Children’s have been
recognised by the College of American Pathologists. By ensuring the laboratories in our network are
accredited and performing testing at the highest possible standards, we guarantee that medical
laboratory excellence and international standards for patient care are implemented here in the UAE.”

Notes to editor:
 Al Jalila Children’s was awarded CAP accreditation on Aug 27th 2018 after a comprehensive on-
site inspection by a team of six CAP inspectors, one year after NRL and Al Jalila Children’s
entered into a laboratory-management partnership. This partnership included the completion of
the setup of the onsite laboratory, the provision of high-quality specialized diagnostic services by
the hospital to its pediatric patients, and the commitment by NRL to ensure a successful CAP
inspection one year after the commencement of service.
 The eight other laboratories in NRL’s network that are accredited by CAP include: two NRL-
owned referral laboratories in Abu Dhabi and Dubai; three Imperial College London Diabetes
Centres in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Zayed Sports City; the laboratory of Healthpoint Hospital, Zayed
Sports City, Abu Dhabi; the laboratory of Etihad Airways Medical Centre, Abu Dhabi; and, the
technical component of the joint Anatomic Pathology laboratory of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
