MPMS 2013-2014 Technology Workshop Lesson Plan

“Getting EDUCREATIve!” by Leigh Fletcher

Learning Objectives:

 Participants will become familiar with the new ISTE (NETS) technology standards for teachers
and students and how these standards tie to the new common core standards currently being
implemented.
 Participants will create an Educreations account and be able to navigate the basic features of
the app and website.
 Participants will create an instructional video (less than 5 minutes long) that their students will
be able to view to learn content currently being covered in the classrooms.
 Participants will discover how to use Educreations to increase student achievement, improve
classroom management, and ensure differentiation in the classroom.
 Participants will create goals for ways to implement this technology into their own classrooms
as a way of promoting students learning and creativity, addressing diverse learning styles, and
enabling the students to manage their own learning.

NETS-T Standards Addressed:

Workshop Procedure:

1. Introduce the workshop by reinforcing our three main school improvement goals: increase
student achievement, improve classroom management, and ensure differentiation.
2. Have participants take the pre-workshop survey.
3. Pass out the NETS-T and NETS-S Standards. Have groups (by grade level) check the standards
that they already implement in their classrooms. Discuss standards that may not be currently
implemented.
4. Discuss how these standards, and technology in general, positively impact student achievement
using the ISTE Common Core Technology Standards flyer.
5. Distribute “Getting Creative with EduCreations Lessons” Handout (slides) while teachers
navigate to www.educreations.com.
6. Using the “Getting Creative with EduCreations Lessons” Smart Notebook presentation, introduce
participants to the basic features of Educreations while participants follow along by creating
their own Educreations account.
7. After the introduction of the basic features of Educreations, show one of my lessons on
”Combining Like Terms” as an example of how to use this tool for instructional purposes.
8. Have participants create an Educreations instructional video similar to the example shown to
them that would be useful in their classrooms. Encourage participants to start basic and then go
back to add images and other documents within the lesson.
9. With their groups, have participants discuss how this could impact student achievement,
improve classroom management, and provide a means for differentiation within their
classrooms.
10. In closing, synthesize group responses and input ideas into this professional development
Weebly website.
11. Lastly, have participants take the post-workshop survey.

Evaluation/Assessment:

Informal Assessment: Instructor will informally assess participants on their understanding of the basic
features and uses of Educreations by observing the participants as they create their own Educreation
instructional video. Guidance and redirection will be provided for participants who seem to struggle
with the basics of the program.

Formal Assessment: Participants will complete the pre- and post-workshop survey and results will be
analyzed and evaluated by the instructor.

Follow-Up Observations: Participants will be observed periodically to ensure understanding of the

program with little technical problems.
