I. Introduction

On Job Training is one of the compulsory task in Ocean Engineering Department,

Institute Of Technology Bandung (ITB). Its task covers about understanding how the theories
learned in class can be implemented in real works.

Ocean engineering is a program that applies engineering princples in an ocean

environment. This engineering goes deep into controlling and monitoring of coastal
environments.

Ocean engineering has scope of :

 designing fixed and floating offshore structures

 designing coastal structures
 exploration and exploitation of offshore gas and oil fields
 coastal zone management
 maintaining and deepening harbors and their entrance channels
 beach restoration
 searching for economical methods for extracting energy from the oceans
 development of undersea vehicles and intelligent work systems
 instrumentation
 acoustic surveillance systems

Some of those are appropriate with projects of PT. PAL (Penataran Angkatan Laut). One of
them is about offshore structures, which learned by ocean engineering students. As we can
see projects PT. PAL is running in maritime industry. It must be good for ocean engineering
students to learn and also to get some experiences in practical studies.

II. Purposes

On Job Training program itself has many purposes for students, those are:

 Applying theoritical knowledges gotten in class before.

 Having real experiences of works in a company.
 Triggering engineering senses to solve the problems with most effective solution.
 Knowing how the work systems runs in a company.
 Fulfiling an undergraduate graduation requirements in ITB.
III. Topics

On Job Training program that we would like to get in PT. PAL, it would be like,

1. Learning offshore structures that includes:

 How to plan and design the structures
 What tools we use to design and plan
 Observing construction strength
2. Learning construction methods that includes:
 How to build the structures during in workshop
 How to install the structures to offshore
 Learning the process of planning construction design
3. Learning construction managements that includes:
 What materials used
 How to decide the materials used
 What equipments use

IV. Time And Place

Time

Based on the academic calender of ITB, we would like to do on job training at June until
August.

Place

The on job training program proposed to be implemented at:
