3D Static Analysis of Machine Part

Problem: A cast iron hollow member used in machine tools structure is fixed at one end and
loaded at the other end. The material properties are Young’s modulus is 165 GPa (1.65x105
N/mm2) and Poisson’s ratio is 0.3. Analyze for the Von-mises stress.

GUI Solution:
1. Starting:
(a) Click → start → ANSYS → ANSYS product launcher
(b) Launch – ANSYS Multiphysics
(c) File management → browse the directory for saving and retrieving the files.
(d) Click → run

2. Preferences → tick → structural → select h-method → ok

3. Title:
(a) Utility menu → File → Change title → “Machine part” → ok.
(b) Utility menu → plot → replot

4. Element:
(a) Preprocessor → element type → add → add → structural solid → Brick 8node
(SOLID45) → ok
