GAS PIPING:

A. Pipe Material

Shall be schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe with malleable fittings.

B. Pipe Workmanship

The piping shown on the drawings shall be installed complete and shall be of
the size shown on the drawings. All vertical offsets shall have a drip led the
full size of the pipe and a minimum of 150 mm long. All piping shall be
installed parallel or perpendicular to the building construction. All piping shall
be installed so as to allow for expansion.

C. Piping Joints

All pipe shall be reamed to full pipe diameter before joining. Joints may be
screwed, or if the pipe size is two inches or larger, the joints may be welded
at the contractor’s option. Screwed joints shall be made with standard pipe
thread and as approved compound applied to the male thread only. Welded
joints shall be made in accordance with the procedure outlined in the U.S.A.
piping code and each welded shall be certified by the National Certified Pipe
Welding Bureau, or by other reputable testing laboratory or agency. The
contractor shall use only “Threadolet” or “Weldolet” fittings for intersection
welding of branches to mains. Valves and specialities shall have screwed
joints.

D. Piping Supports

All pipe shall be supported from the building structure in a neat and
workmanlike manner and whenever possible, parallel runs of horizontal
piping shall be grouped together on trapeze type hangers. Vertical risers
shall be supported at each floor line with steel pipe clamps. The use of
wire or perforated metal to supports pipes will not be permitted. Hanging
pipes from other pipes will not be permitted. Spacing of pipe supports shall
not exceed 2.40 meters for pipes up to 32 mm and 3.0 meter on all other
piping.

E. Equipment Connections

Where gas pipe connects to equipment, it shall be provided with a drip leg
to full size of the runout, a 100% shut-off valve and a union.

F. Testing

The entire system shall tested with a mercury gage for a minimum of two
hours and proven tight.

G. Sectionalizing

The pipe may be may be tested a section at a time in order to facilitate the
construction.

H. Protection

The piping shall be protected at all times from dirt and moisture. During
storage on the job site or construction, the contractor shall keep ends
plugged or capped to prevent dirt or moisture entering the pipe.
