AIDS

AIDS/HIV is one of the deadliest diseases in the world today. Many

people are dying each day, and more and more are contracting AIDS
every minute. Children are being orphaned because the people are
losing sight of what is important in this world. While the spreading of
AIDS has increased, the funding for AIDS has decreased.
The history of AIDS is somewhat unknown but scientists have created
a theory of the possible development of AIDS. Recent research
indicates that HIV probably first jumped from chimpanzees to humans
as early as 1675 and didn’t establish itself as an epidemic until 1930
in Africa. By 1959, a man died in the Congo, which researchers
believe was AIDS related. HIV disease is characterized by a gradual
deterioration of immune function. Most notably immune cells called
CD+4 T-cells are disabled and killed during typical course of infection
(Matthews). Dr. Lieberman’s, assistant professor of medicine at the
New England Medical Center, team speculated that the onset of AIDS
symptoms represents a tip on the balance between progressive viral
replication and the patient’s immunological defenses, particularly the
cytotoxic T-cell response . “The notion of these clinical trials is to
enhance the patient
Abortion
Abortion is the deliberate killing of the weakest and most defenseless
among us. Unfortunately, for the last few decades, the practice has
been recognized as a fundamental human right by the highest court
of the land. Many people are fervent supporters of abortion. Their
reasons for support are varied. However, I believe that support for
abortion is not possible for those who understand our dignity as
human persons under God. We were made by God, and it is from Him
that we derive our worth.

The debate over abortion, then, is really a debate over our nature as
human creatures. Who are we? Why is life important? It was while
grappling with these questions that I created this website. To advance
in understanding is hard work. It is important to think clearly. My
fervent hope is that what is said here will help clarify the issues for
those who fight for the unborn and will, therefore, in however small a
way, be used for the glory of God.

Violence against women

Violence against women and girls is a major health and human rights concern. Women
can experience physical or mental abuse throughout their lifecycle, in infancy,
childhood and/or adolescence, or during adulthood or older age. While violence has
severe health consequences for the affected, it is a social problem that warrants an
immediate coordinated response from multiple sectors.
Definition of violence against women

A group of international experts convened by WHO in February 1996 agreed that the
definition adopted by the United Nations General Assembly provides a useful
framework for the Organization's activities. The Declaration on the Elimination of
Violence against Women (1993) defines violence against women as "any act of gender-
based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or
suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of
liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life."

This encompasses, inter alia, "physical, sexual and psychological violence occurring in
the family and in the general community, including battering, sexual abuse of children,
dowry-related violence, rape, female genital mutilation and other traditional practices
harmful to women, non-spousal violence and violence related to exploitation, sexual
harassment and intimidation at work, in educational institutions and elsewhere,
trafficking in women, forced prostitution, and violence perpetrated or condoned by the
state."
