Lab # 02
Analysis of Beams using ETAS software.
0bjective:

 The objectives of this lab is to analyse the beams before the design.
 We can easily simulate the beams with manually work.
 Better knowledge how to analyse structure within minutes.
 Minimize the error as compare to manually work.

Related Theory:
ETAB Software (Extended three-dimensional analysis of building systems):
ETABS is a completely integrated system. Embedded beneath the simple, intuitive user
interface are very powerful numerical methods, design procedures and international design
codes, all working from a single comprehensive database. This integration means that you
create only one model of the floor system and the vertical and lateral framing system to analyze
and design the entire building.

Beam:
A beam is a structural member in which the major deformation is bending.
Example No.4.1 ( steel A36 )
Procedure:
Step No.1
 Click on the icon of ETAB software and click on file option and select new model.

Figr.No.01: unit selection

Step No.2
 In this step select the gird and story system according to given beam data. Gird and
story data are edited according to given data in x-direction and y-direction. And
number of story their heights etc.

Figr.No.02: Gird selection

Figr.No.03: Elevation at 1
Step No.3
 Click on the define, select material properties. When click on material properties, a
screen will be visible then click on A36 and then click ok.

Figr.No.04: Material Property

Step No.04
 Click on define, select section properties and click on frame sections, select section.
In this example, I select W360X32.9 section and then click ok.

Figr.No.05: Section selection

Step No.05
 Draw beam member according to given as in book and remove extra supports and end
supports are assign as given in book example.
Figr.No.06: Draw member and restrain supports
Step No.06
 After restrain the supports as given data, now apply loads according to beam.

Figr.No.07: Delete dead Load

Step No.07
 Now add combination 1.2D+1.6L

Figr.No.08: COMBINATION
Step No.08:
 Apply all loads according to given example in book.
Figr.No.09: apply loads

Step No.09
 Before running the analysis save all work.

Step 10:
 After saving click on run. Analysis will be run.

Step No.11:
 After analysis run, deflection will be shown, then click on display option and go
to force/stress diagram and click support reaction option and select all Fx, Fy,
Fz, Mx, My and Mz and click on apply and ok. All the reactions will be display
and match these reaction to given example.

Figr.No.10: Reaction on supports

Step 12:
 Display the forces in each member, click on display and go to forces/stress
diagram then click on frame/pier/ spandrel option, and click on axial force and
click apply and then ok.

Figr.No.11: shear force and bending moment

Step 13:
 Now click on design option and add combination and start to design.

Figr.No.12: fail section

Step 13:
 Now unlock beam and select section property and add new section auto beam
and add w sections and then assign auto beam and run analysis after analysis
design beam.

Figr.No.14: final section

End Example.
Example 4.1 (fy=345Mpa)
All steps are same so, there are no need to explain again and again.
Step No.01
 1st step is same as we do above, because units are same system.

Figr.No.1: Unit Selection

Step No.02
 This step is same as above but data are given according to 3.5 example. Select
grids and story according to data and then ok.

Figr.No.02: Gird and story data

Figr.No.03: Material property

Step No.03 & Step No.04:

 Step 3&4 are same as above, in both step we select material properties and
section select. In this example same material property selected and same section
selected.

Figr.No.04: Section Selection

Step No.05
 After selection the section we draw member according to shape and dimension.
As we draw above example.

Figr.No.05: Draw Members

Step No.06
 After draw the member according to data, we remove the extra supports and
restrain the supports according to book example.

Figr.No.06: Restrain supports

Step No.07
 After that apply load and run analysis.

Figr.No.07: Deflected Shape

Step No.08
 Click on display option and show shear force and bending moment.

Figr.No.08: Shear force and bending moment.

Step No.09
 Now design the beam by click on design option and final section as shown
below is satisfied all checks.

Figr.No.09:
THE END
Example No.4.3 (ANALYSIS AND DESIGN)
All steps are same as we do above so, there are no need to explain each step again and again
because I already explain above.
