Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, a Site Manager are responsible for ensuring that a
construction project of MVPP is completed on time and within budget. A Site
Manager work on construction sites and work often just before and while work is
taking place.
Before work starts, a Site Manager gets things ready by taking on staff and preparing
the site, carefully planning the work to be done and installing temporary offices for
site staff.
While work is taking place, a Site Manager will monitor progress, oversee delivery of
materials and carry out safey checks and sort out any problem which could holdup
work as they arise. A site manager will also keep in close contact with members of
their site team at all times, and liaise with architects, engineers, surveyors and
planners. He or she will also ensure that work complies with building regulations and
health and safety legislation as well as other legal requirements.
Responsibilities
supervising and overseeing the direction of the project (or a package), ensuring that
the client’s specifications and requirements are met, reviewing progress and liaising
with quantity surveyors to monitor costs
liaising with the client, other construction professionals and, sometimes, members of
the public
coordinating and supervising construction workers
selecting tools and materials
making safety inspections and ensuring construction and site safety
checking and preparing site reports, designs and drawings
maintaining quality control procedures
finding ways to prevent problems and to solve any that crop up
assessing and minimising risk
writing reports and keeping on top of paperwork
helping to negotiating contracts and securing permits and licences
