DEFINITION OF TERMS
TERMS DEFINITION
1. Statistic 1. A fact or piece of data obtained from a study of a large
quantity of numerical data.
2. It is useful for drawing general conclusion about a set of
data from a sample of data.

2. Nominal Variable 1. A qualitative variable that characterize, describes or name
an element of a population
2. For example:
Hair colour (black, brown, grey)
Make of car (Suzuki, Honda, etc)
State of birth ( Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perlis and etc)
Sex (Male, Female)
Marital Status (married, single, widowed)
3. Ordinal Variable 1. A qualitative variable that incorporates an ordered position
or ranking.
2. For example:
Grades (A, B, C, D, E and F)
Level of satisfaction (Very satisfied, satisfied, somewhat
satisfied)
Frequency (Always, Usually, Often, Occasionally, Rarely
and Never)
4. Ratio Scale 1. Is like an interval scale BUT HAS ABSOLUTE ZERO.
2. Absolute zero means absence of the characteristics being
measured.
3. Highest and most informative scale

5. Interval Scale 1. Scale with values, and there is the same numerical distance
between each value
2. The scale has an arbitrary zero point (no true meaningful
zero point)

6. Mean 1. Sum of scores divided by the number of scores
