CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION
In this case, Self-motivation is a must for every university student, lack of motivation
can hamper academic progress and can cause trouble in near future. The students who
are motivated have higher achievements in their university life and get a job quickly.
‘Too often, strategies that adults use to boost student achievement -- such
as raising academic standards and giving high-stakes standardized exams -
- do not address the real reasons why students are disengaged. Even the
most dedicated teachers and parents may be sending messages that leave
children believing they don’t have what it takes to succeed. (James
Marshall Crotty)’
The young generation of today’s world tend to seek solutions, consultations from the
internet and there are various online sources that are working to motivate the
unmotivated and depressed students, but it is hard to find the right media to take help
from.
1
The proposed study will attempt to find out the easy and organized way to guide the
university students of Bangladesh to practice self-motivation technique and fight
depression through the internet based app.
2
1.5 Research questions:
1. Are there enough online web apps or sites available to guide depressed and
unmotivated university students?
2. Is the concept of helping depressed university students through internet-based
app necessary?
3. Will the internet-based app be able to solve the mentioned problem fully?
4. Can the internet based app put a positive impact on the depressed and
unmotivated students of Bangladesh?
5. Will self-motivation technique work in solving the mentioned problem?
3
1.6 Theoretical framework:
For the possible solution, we planned to develop a web app. The goal is to provide
easy access to the app using internet across the country in any device and connect the
users to relevant sites and media to achieve the purpose of this project, see the diagram

1.7 Research hypotheses:
1. An internet-based motivational app can work as the primary solution for the
depressed and unmotivated university students.
2. The internet-based app can guide them to practice self-motivation.
3. Internet-based can put a positive impact on the daily life of the depressed
university students of Bangladesh.
5
1.10 Definitions of terms:
‘Internet-based app’ In this study, the term web app is used to mean
The applications which are developed using the web-based programming language
such as PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc.
6
CHAPTER TWO: LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction:
To achieve anything good in life the first important step is to have self-confidence,
self-respect, and self-esteem. (John Yager, 2006). For depressed and unmotivated it
is very important to practice self-motivation to do well in academic career.
‘One should raise oneself through the self, and never lower oneself; for the
self alone is one’s friend and the self alone is one’s enemy. (Srimad
Bhagavad)’
So for the guidance and help, this study will introduce an internet based app from
where the depressed students can learn self-efficiency.
7
‘Nothing can make a strong, solid iron fall but soft flakes of rust can make it
collapse. (John Yager)’
In many cases, a small guidance can help to show the right paths to solve a big
problem. So the online motivational app can help the depressed and unmotivated
students to get motivated.
If the depressed and unmotivated student can access easily to the internet based app
he/she can then search for the solutions he/she need for himself/herself. It will act as
the primary solution for them to get on the right path.
‘If I had one hour to save the world, I would spend 55 minutes defining
the problem and only 5 minutes finding the solution. (Einstein, Albert)’
So seeking the cure is not everything, knowing the problem can solve both problem
and life.

2.5 Chapter summary:
The literature reviewed in this chapter from previous research. The concept of
internet-based self-motivational was mentioned. Necessity and usefulness of
internet-based self-motivational app were discussed.

CHAPTER THREE: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Introduction:
This chapter includes the research methodology of internet-based app for helping
depressed students to practice self-motivation. The research method used in this project
is experimental, qualitative, and quantitative.
The assumptions and the necessity of this research came from the climbing rate of
depression. The depression rate rose by more than 18% since 2005 (fortune.com).
This chapter presents the research design, population for this project, sampling system,
respondents of this study, instruments, validation system and method of data collection
and data analysis system.

3.2.1 Reason for selecting this research design:
We chose a mixture of experimental, qualitative, and quantitative research design
because it is the best to study the problem directly and practically and it provides lots
of opportunities to solve the problem and opens new doors for future research.
To satisfy our methods we designed this research to get the most out from the research
samples. The 1, 2, and 3 from the diagram (3.2, diagram: 02) already done in chapter
1. Option 4 done in chapter 2. Option 5, 6, and 7 are in chapter 3. Other two options
will be discussed in upcoming chapter 4 and 5.
Table 1 11
3.4.1 Sampling technique:
The technique of sampling will be used in this study are topic related, purposive. We
will use these techniques so that we can gain topic related data from the targeted sample
unit and we will use both qualitative and quantitative method to do it.
3.5 Instrumentation:
To collect data from the samples and to validate the research project we will use
instruments like checklist, questionnaire, survey, personal interview.
12
3.5.4 Survey questions:
The survey is a great medium to get quantitative data from the targeted population. For
the survey we managed to put four questions. The survey system will ask for the
university name and gender of the participants along with the four relevant questions.
See APPENDIX D.
Survey
For this project, we will do two types of survey (1) Direct survey, (2) Online survey. In
a direct survey, we will describe our research project and then we will ask our targeted
population the questionnaires (Table 11). In an online survey, we will use Google’s
online feature Google form since it is very easy to understand and cost-free and we will
post it to a different Facebook group or other social media sites to collect data from
university students.
13
3.7 Data analysis procedures:
We will collect both qualitative and quantitative data, so, first of all, we will
completely separate these two different types of data.
Qualitative
Utilize the data from the interview records to corroborate the findings with other
sources.
Double check the data for relevancy.
Use critical thinking to synthesize the data.
Store the evidence of data collection.
Quantitative
Store the collected data in an Excel spreadsheet and in Google form.
Remove completely blank responses.
Remove duplicate data.
14
CHAPTER FOUR: DATA ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION
OF RESULTS
4.1 Introduction:
This chapter contains findings and result of data collection according to the research
question, hypotheses, and questionnaires. Data were collected and analyzed to identify
the effect of the internet-based app on depressed and unmotivated university students
of Bangladesh. Data obtained from google form service and personal interview.
15
4.3.1 Study variables:
To find the research findings we decided to target the university students from
different public and private universities of Bangladesh. The main variables were
the university name, department, number of sections from each department.
Figure: 01
Quantitative:
From the quantitative findings, we get to see that out of 8 participants 7 of
them were female, that means 87.5% were female.
Figure: 02
16
Qualitative:
We interviewed only two people for this research project for two different universities,
one of them were male and one of them were female.

CHAPTER FIVE: DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
5.1 Introduction:
This is the final chapter of this research, presents a summary of research, discussion
and interpretation of findings, recommendation for future research, and conclusion.
After doing all the steps of research we are finally able to conclude this report.
As lack of motivation form depression and make the university students suffer in their
academic life and puts a huge impact on their future life. Internet is very easy to get
these days and people usually tend to browse internet for any kind of necessity rather
than real life consultation, same goes with the depression, when young university
students fell less motivated to work or study and become depressed they search on
internet to for motivational sites/posts or online consultation but there are not enough
web services to help out the university students who are suffering.
20
So a well-organized web app can always draw the attention of those who are facing
these problems, from our research findings we can certainly state that, the internet-
based app is very helpful in solving the primary state of depression and less motivation
and it can also help them to learn self-motivation techniques.
5.4 Limitations:
To develop a full-stack web app it requires lots of time, dedication, creativity, hard
work, money, and, knowledge. As we did not get much time to work on this planned
web app so we were not able to put lots of features in it. We also need professional
consultation so that we can secure our app properly. To host a web app properly it
requires financial aids since we don’t have a sponsor that’s why we aren’t able to host
it on a professional platform.
Methods of solution always change by the time, so in the future, there will be lots of
new methods to make university students motivate. Since our code is open source that
means other programmers have the right to use and modify our program but a proper
credit will always be appreciated.
We came up with this possible solution and we sure have to lack, so if someone or
some group of people conduct a research on this topic they should find out the research
gap from our research project and prepare more effective and possible solutions.
21
5.6 Conclusion:
Despite the limitations of this study, the outcomes are promising. Most of the findings
of this study point out the necessity of an internet-based app in helping depressed and
unmotivated students of Bangladesh. To make a person practice self-motivation there
should at least a medium like books, doctors, individual help or internet based app.
When a person finds the right medium he/she can help himself/herself to overcome
depression and less motivation and we can say online based app services can be a
great medium in this current world.
