Quick Start
Getting started with InputAccel Capture for Documentum is easy. Just follow the
instructions in this chapter to complete these steps:
1. Be sure your system meets the minimum system requirements.
2. Install InputAccel Capture for Documentum.
3. Use the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Wizard to define and configure
one or more document types.
4. Capture and process documents by running a document type.

Step 1: Check system requirements

InputAccel Capture for Documentum is a client/server application. You begin by
installing the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server and all client modules
on a single workstation. In addition (subject to licensing), you can install client
modules on additional networked workstations that share the single InputAccel
Capture for Documentum Server.

Minimum requirements
Requirements for the InputAccel Capture for Documentum
Server/client workstation
• 266 MHz Intel Pentium-based workstation with 64MB RAM. (300 MHz or
faster clock speed and 128MB or more RAM strongly recommended.)
• Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003.
InputAccel Capture for Documentum should not be installed on Microsoft
Windows XP Home Edition. The InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server
will not run properly and the client modules have not been tested under
Windows XP Home Edition
• Documentum Desktop Client version 5.2.5 or higher
The Documentum Desktop Client must be installed before you can complete a
full installation of InputAccel Capture for Documentum. During Documentum
Desktop Client setup, you must be prepared to specify the Primary Docbroker

host name and port number. For more information on these requirements,
contact your system administrator or refer to the Documentum documentation.
• Display resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher.
• Up to 342 MB disk space plus 1GB for every 5000 binary images that are
“in process.”
See ““Typical disk space requirements”” for detailed disk space requirements.
Note: If you are installing InputAccel Capture for Documentum on a Windows XP
workstation, be sure that Windows is configured to use “classic file sharing.”
(InputAccel Capture for Documentum will not work properly if Windows is con-
figured to use “Simple File Sharing.”) Simple File Sharing is a Windows XP option
designed for home-type networking with minimal security and few configuration
requirements. InputAccel Capture for Documentum requires Classic File Sharing
to be enabled. For more information about Simple vs. Classic File Sharing, see
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 304040. File sharing mode is configured in the
View tab of the Folder Options dialog.

Requirements for additional InputAccel Capture for

Documentum client workstations
• 266 MHz Intel Pentium-based workstation with 64MB RAM.
• Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003.
• Documentum Desktop Client version 5.2.5 or higher (if the workstation
will be running the Documentum Process Wizard).
• Display resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher.
• Up to 300 MB disk space (all components).
See ““Typical disk space requirements”” for detailed disk space requirements.

Networked installations
If you want to install client modules on additional workstations in order to
distribute your document capture processing, your client and server computers
must be interconnected using TCP/IP protocol. Due to the large number of image
files being transferred, it is recommended that you use 100BaseT or other high-
speed topology.

Step 2: Installing InputAccel Capture for

Documentum
Once you are certain your computer meets the requirements listed on the previous
page, installing InputAccel Capture for Documentum is a matter of inserting the
CD-ROM and following the prompts on the screen. As a minimum, you must
install the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server and one “typical”
InputAccel Capture for Documentum client installation. If desired (subject to the
terms of your license) you can also install the client modules on additional
workstations to share work among multiple users and multiple computers.

Installing the InputAccel Capture for

Documentum Server
1. Insert the InputAccel Capture for Documentum CD-ROM and wait while the
setup program automatically starts. (If you downloaded InputAccel Capture
for Documentum, run Setup.exe in the top-level directory where you copied
the installation files.) The main setup window appears.
2. Choose Install InputAccel Capture to start installing the software.
3. Choose Install the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete InputAccel Capture for
Documentum Server installation.
Note: During server setup, choose the default settings unless you are aware of
changes needed for your particular situation. For complete information on all
server setup issues, refer to the InputAccel Installation and Configuration Guide.
5. Install the security key. This key is usually a hardware security key (dongle),
although a dongleless security key is available in the form of an activation file
(.caf). If you will be using a .caf file, it must be named iaserver.caf. If you will
be using a dongle, then the dongle must be placed on the InputAccel Server's
parallel port or USB port (depending on the type of hardware key you
ordered).
6. When the Import Licenses panel appears, choose the appropriate option:

3
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

• If you purchased InputAccel Capture for Documentum and have your

license file and security key, choose Install Licenses Now. Select Browse
to select the location of the supplied license (.LIC) file. In most cases, your
license file will be supplied on a diskette, so you would insert the diskette in
your computer’s diskette drive, browse to the A: drive and open the file with
a .lic extension. If your licenses were supplied in an e-mail, you would save
the license file to a specific location on your workstation’s file system, then
browse to that location and open the file with the .lic extension.
• If you purchased InputAccel Capture for Documentum and do not want to
install licenses at this time, choose Licenses are already installed or will
be installed at a later time. Only the Supervisor and Administrator
modules will function after installation is complete, enabling you to install
license codes. See “Installing InputAccel Capture for Documentum
licenses” in the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Main Help.
7. Continue following the instructions until you reach the final setup screen:
Install Security Key.
8. If you purchased InputAccel Capture
for Documentum and you
requested a dongle, attach the
parallel port or USB port hardware
key now to the computer’s first
parallel port or to any USB port.

If you are using a USB dongle, wait

for a few moments while Windows
detects the new device and
Parallel server key (background)
configures its drivers. If Windows
USB server key (foreground)
prompts you to select a driver,
choose the default recommendation. When Windows finishes configuring the
dongle drivers, select Finish.
Note: A single dongle (either parallel or USB) is required only on the computer
running the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server. No dongles are required
on additional client workstations you configure.
9. If you purchased InputAccel Capture for Documentum and you requested a
dongleless security key, select Browse to display the Load InputAccel Captiva

(.caf), then select Open.

10. Assuming you are installing both the server and client software, proceed to the
next section to install the client software. (You can ignore any instructions to
reboot your computer until after you have installed the client modules.)

Installing the InputAccel Capture for

Documentum Client
1. If you are continuing from the server installation, skip to step 3 below. Other-
wise, run the main InputAccel Capture for Documentum setup program
again. (See step 1 on page 3.)
2. In the main installation screen, choose Install InputAccel Capture, then on
the next screen choose Install the InputAccel Capture Client.
Note: If the server has been installed on this workstation, the previous choice,
“Install the InputAccel Capture Server,” has changed to “Modify/Repair the
InputAccel Capture Server.” Choose this option only if you want to make any
changes to your server installation.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen to continue with InputAccel Capture for
Documentum client installation. When the Workstation Setup panel appears,
select the button that corresponds to the desired installation type.

In most cases, you should choose the topmost button, Typical. This will
install all components and documentation required by InputAccel Capture for
Documentum.
Important: You must perform a Typical installation or a Custom installation that
includes all modules required by InputAccel Capture for Documentum on at least
one workstation. This is the workstation you will use to configure the system.
Note: For complete information on each of the other installation options, see
“Other client setup options” on page 6.
4. If the Scanner Selection panel appears, make a choice from the list.
• If your scanner is listed, select it.

scanner support.

5
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

• If you don’t have a scanner or your scanner is not supported by either an

included driver or TWAIN configuration, choose No scanner, file import
only. InputAccel Capture for Documentum will import files that you save
to disk from your scanner, fax card, or other image source.
5. When the Ready to Install the Program panel appears, select Install to
complete the client installation.
6. If prompted to do so, reboot your system. InputAccel Capture for
Documentum will not work until your system has been rebooted.

Documentum workstation you want to set up.
Important: The licenses you install (step 6 on page 3) determine how many additional
workstations can connect to the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server.

Other client setup options

In addition to a “typical” installation, you can also perform three other types of
client installations if desired:
• Indexing only
Installs only the components required to perform “indexing after scan” using the
Index module. Choose this option if you want to set up additional workstations
that will handle only manual document indexing.
• Scanning only
Installs only the components required to select a document type and scan
documents. Choose this option if you want to set up separate scanning (or
rescanning) workstations.
• Custom
Installs the components you select. The Custom option also enables you to
install the following additional modules and their documentation, which are not
installed by any of the other options:
• Process Developer
Enables administrators to design, debug, compile, and install InputAccel
processes.
• PrimeOCR for InputAccel
A high-volume alternative to the included ScanSoft OCR module that
converts InputAccel data to PDF files.

6
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

Important: With the exception of PrimeOCR for InputAccel, the modules listed above
are not part of the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Wizard. These modules must be
configured by experienced users by incorporating them in an Integrated ProcessFlow
Project (IPP).
Note: None of the modules listed above will function until they are properly licensed.
The documentation for these additional modules can be found in their Help files (if
installed) by choosing Start > Programs > InputAccel > Documentation.

7

Step 3: Using the InputAccel Capture for

Documentum Wizard
Now that installation is complete, you are ready to configure InputAccel Capture
for Documentum to meet your exact document capture needs. You do this by using
the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Wizard. For each separate type of
document you want to capture, the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Wizard
asks you a series of questions and saves your responses in a special file called a
document type.
You create a different document type for each different capture workflow you want
to define. When you are ready to capture a document, you run the appropriate
document type. InputAccel Capture for Documentum performs all the appropriate
steps with all the desired settings, without requiring the user to start and exit from
the various modules that the document type needs. Document type files are stored
on the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server so they are available to all
InputAccel Capture for Documentum workstations.
Follow these steps to create your first document type:

1. Turn on your scanner.

2. Start InputAccel Capture for Documentum by double-clicking the icon on
your desktop. The first login dialog appears.

3. If necessary, fill in the Server Name field with the machine name of the
computer running the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server, then
select OK. (It may already be filled in based on information you provided
during setup.) The second login dialog appears.

8
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

tum (where the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server and all client
modules are installed on the same workstation) and you are not part of a network
domain, you should specify your workstation's computer name as defined in Win-
dows System Properties in the Computer Name field.
In future sessions, the Server Name field will remember this entry.
4. Type your user name and password, then select your domain name from the
list.
Note: You must have a Microsoft Windows user name and password to use
InputAccel Capture for Documentum. If you have a standalone installation of
InputAccel Capture for Documentum and do not log into Microsoft Windows when
you start your computer, you must add a user and password using the User and
Password icon in Windows Control Panel. If you are not part of a network
domain, select your workgroup from the Domain list. If you are not on a network
at all, select your workstation’s Computer Name from the Domain list.
5. Select OK to start InputAccel Capture for Documentum. The main
InputAccel Capture for Documentum window appears.
Note: If you have a TWAIN scanner, the first time you start InputAccel Capture for

document type in the field near the bottom of the dialog, then select Create.
The InputAccel Capture for Documentum Wizard starts, enabling you to
configure your new document type.
Note: Depending on previous versions of InputAccel Capture for Documentum
you may have installed, there may be other wizard icons present in this panel. Be
sure to choose the IA 5.3 version if you want to be using the latest wizard and the
latest set of InputAccel modules. Use the other icons when compatibility with
existing document types is required.
8. Answer the questions in each of the wizard’s panels.

9
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

Note: The number of panels the wizard displays depends on your answers in the
preceding panels. The wizard will not let you move to the next panel until you
have given valid answers in the current panel. For detailed information about
answering the questions on each wizard panel, see “Configuring a document type
with the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Wizard” in the InputAccel Capture
for Documentum Wizard Help.
9. Select Finish to save your new document type, then grant the desired
permissions in the InputAccel Security dialog that appears. (See “Setting
permissions” in the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Main Help for more
information.)

10

Step 4: Capturing and processing

documents
Now that you have configured at least one document type, you are ready to start
capturing and processing documents. InputAccel Capture for Documentum auto-
mates the document capture process as much as possible. You need only start
InputAccel Capture for Documentum, select the document type you want to use,
and start scanning. InputAccel Capture for Documentum takes care of all the
details—starting each module as needed, sending it the appropriate tasks, perform-
ing the requested operations, saving the results, and closing the module when it is
no longer needed.
You interact with InputAccel Capture for Documentum by operating the Scan
module and, if an indexing step is included in your document type, entering index
information for your documents. All other document capture steps that have been
configured in the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Wizard proceed
automatically, without operator intervention.

To capture and process documents

1. Start InputAccel Capture for Documentum by double-clicking the icon on
your desktop.

2. Enter your login information. (See step 3 on page 8.) The main InputAccel
Capture for Documentum window appears.
3. Decide whether you want to automatically scan documents or control the
scanner manually. By default, the Auto-Scan button is engaged. To scan
manually, select the button to disengage it.
4. Double-click the document type you want to use to capture the document.
• If the selected document type specifies an output location, skip ahead to
step 5.

11
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

• If the selected document type does not specify a save location, the Specify
an Output Path dialog appears, prompting you to specify a save location.
Note: The Output Path dialog displays a separate section for each exporter that
needs an output location specified. Each section will contain a default file nam-
ing data value that will guarantee a unique name for each file that InputAccel
Capture for Documentum saves. For more information, see “Manually scanning
documents” in the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Quick Start Guide.
5. Scan all the pages in your document capture job, then select Finish Scanning
to close the Scan module.
Note: If the document type specifies the “index during scan” feature, you must
enter indexing information in the Index tab of the Scan module’s control panel.
Refer to “Indexing documents during scan” in the InputAccel Capture for Docu-
mentum Main Help for details.
6. Wait while InputAccel Capture for Documentum starts each module and
performs the processing steps you configured for the document type.
Tip: You don’t have to wait while InputAccel Capture for Documentum processes
the document. You can immediately select a document type and start another
document capture job.
7. If the document type specifies the “index after scan” feature, the Index
module starts when the job is ready to be indexed. Enter indexing data as
required. Refer to “Indexing documents after scan” in the InputAccel Capture for
Documentum Main Help for details.

(Optional) If a page has poor image quality, you can reject it by selecting the
Rescan Page check box in the Index module’s control panel.
Important: If you are performing document capture using multiple InputAccel
Capture for Documentum workstations, you will want to turn off Index on all but
the indexing workstation(s). Instructions for doing this can be found in “Index-
ing documents after scan” in the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Main Help.

When you have finished indexing the entire document capture job, select Stop
to close Index.
8. If you rejected pages in the Index module, the Rescan module starts and
displays thumbnail images that indicate the status of each page:

12
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

Page was accepted.

Another page in this document was rejected.

Page was rejected and needs to be rescanned.

Rescan the marked pages as necessary by locating the originals and scanning
them one at a time. By default, when you select Scan Pages the Rescan
module automatically replaces each rejected page, leaving other pages as they
are.
Important: If you are performing document capture using multiple InputAccel
Capture for Documentum workstations, you will want to turn off Rescan on all
but the rescanning workstation. Instructions for doing this can be found in
“Turning off the Rescan Module” near the end of the InputAccel Capture for Docu-
mentum Quick Start Guide
9. When you finish rescanning pages, the affected documents appear in the
Index module again. Enter the appropriate indexing data, then select Stop
when you are finished.
InputAccel Capture for Documentum continues processing your job through all
remaining steps required by the document type. After successfully completing all
export operations, the Last Batch status display in the InputAccel Capture for
Documentum window displays Done.
InputAccel Capture for Documentum automatically deletes all temporary files it
created on the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server only after all pages and
data have been successfully exported.

Common questions and answers

Q What causes this message?
“Connection refused by remote host. Make sure server is operational”
A Most likely, the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server is not running.
Be sure that the server is running. If you just installed InputAccel Capture for
Documentum, be sure that you reboot before trying to use it. If you expect the
InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server to run as a service automatically
when the workstation starts up, in Control Panel select the Services icon and
check the status of the InputAccel Server service. (Its Status should be
“Started” and its Startup Type should be “Automatic”.) If you run the
InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server as an application, be sure you
start the server (ias.exe) from a command prompt each time you start the
server computer.
Also, on each InputAccel Capture for Documentum workstation, check that
you have spelled the server name correctly in the first login dialog, and that
you have selected the correct domain in the Domains list in the second login
dialog.

Q What should I type in the User Name, Password, and Domain fields when
starting InputAccel Capture for Documentum?
A InputAccel Capture for Documentum requires that you log into the
InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server when you start the program. In
most cases, you use the same information that you use when you start
Windows and log in.
If your computer does not require logging into Windows, you must assign your
computer a name and you must configure a Windows user account.
• For a standalone system, you must configure a user account in Control
Panel by clicking the Users and Passwords icon. Networked systems may
use a network service to configure user accounts.
• You must select a domain from the list in the Login dialog. If you are using
a standalone system, the domain is the same as the computer name. If you
are using a networked system, the domain is configured by your network
administrator and must be the domain to which your InputAccel Capture
for Documentum Server is connected.

15
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

• If you are using a networked system, contact your network administrator

for the necessary login information, including user name, password, and
domain.

Q What scanners does InputAccel Capture for Documentum support?

A InputAccel Capture for Documentum works with hundreds of scanners from
small, lightweight desktop models to industrial-strength, high-volume
production scanners. Your license agreement also may influence the scanners
you are allowed to use. For a complete list of supported scanner makes and
specific models, browse to scannerdrivers.com. If there is no driver for your
scanner, check back often. In the mean time, use a TWAIN driver as described
in the next question and answer.

Q What if an ISIS driver is not available for the scanner I want to use?
A If an ISIS driver is not available for the scanner you want to use with
InputAccel Capture for Documentum, you have two other options:
• If your scanner has TWAIN support, configure its TWAIN driver to work
with InputAccel Capture for Documentum. This requires that you step
through a one-time process to configure the driver by performing a number
of operations that let InputAccel Capture for Documentum determine your
scanner’s features and capabilities. See “Configuring a TWAIN Scanner” in
the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Main Help for details.
• Scan your pages using software that supports your scanner and save the
resulting images to disk. Then use InputAccel Capture for Documentum to
import the images and complete the desired document capture steps.

Q Why can’t I see any modules in the Watch pane of the main InputAccel
Capture for Documentum window?
A First, be sure that the Watch status pane is enabled. Select the Watch toolbar
button and expand the status pane to be sure you are seeing the desired
information. If necessary, resize the main InputAccel Capture for
Documentum window to provide adequate room to view the Watch pane.
If you still do not see any modules in the list, it is likely that the iawatch.txt file
was deleted from the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server. This file
should be located in the \\IAS\modules\iascan folder. The easiest way to
restore this file if you do not have a backup copy is to reinstall InputAccel
Capture for Documentum Server.

16
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

Q What are the minimum requirements for InputAccel Capture for

Documentum?
A As with most graphics-intensive software, the faster your computer and the
more memory and hard disk space you have, the better InputAccel Capture for
Documentum will perform. However, the minimum requirements are listed on
page 1 and minimum disk space requirements are listed on page 14. Additional
details can be found in the InputAccel Installation and Configuration Guide installed
with InputAccel Capture for Documentum.

Q Why doesn’t InputAccel Capture for Documentum work correctly on my

Windows XP workstation when I have Simple File Sharing enabled?
A Simple File Sharing is a Windows XP option designed for home-type
networking with minimal security and few configuration requirements.
InputAccel Capture for Documentum requires Classic File Sharing to be
enabled to properly move files among the modules and the InputAccel
Capture for Documentum Server. For more information about Simple vs.
Classic File Sharing, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 304040. File
sharing mode is configured in the View tab of the Folder Options dialog.

Q Why am I seeing licensing errors such as the following?

• “Cannot scan - Error Scanning batch”
• “Maximum license server pages have been exceeded”
• “This module has not been licensed properly (-6027/1A)”
• “Insufficient permissions”
A There are many reasons that licensing errors may occur. You should check
each of the following:
• Is the hardware key (dongle) attached to the computer running the
InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server? If you have installed
InputAccel Capture for Documentum on multiple workstations, remember
that the hardware key must be attached to the one that is running the
InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server.
• If you are using a parallel port hardware key, is it connected to the first
parallel port on the computer? Some computers have two or more parallel
ports. Also, is the parallel port enabled in the computer’s BIOS setup
program? Most newer computers have the ability to enable and disable
various hardware components including parallel ports on the motherboard.
To check and correct this problem you must invoke Setup mode while the
computer is booting, before Windows starts up.

17
InputAccel Capture for Documentum User Guide

• If you are using a USB port hardware key, did the drivers install properly?
You must carefully follow the InputAccel Capture for Documentum Server
installation instructions to enable the drivers to be installed or updated. You
must remove the hardware key during server installation, and then reattach
it after the setup program has copied the necessary drivers (when the setup
program is finished). Then you must wait a few moments while Windows
detects the device and locates the correct drivers. Some versions of
Windows will then prompt you for the location of the drivers and you
should always choose the default (recommended) option. Finally, when
setup is complete, you must reboot your computer before the hardware key
(and other InputAccel Capture for Documentum components) will work
properly.
• Did you install the license codes? During InputAccel Capture for
Documentum Server setup, you had the option of installing license codes or
waiting until later. Did you remember to install them later using either
Supervisor or the Administrator module?
• Did you install the correct license codes? If you received multiple hardware
keys and multiple license code files, note that the license codes must match
the serial number printed on the hardware key. (This number is also
displayed by the Supervisor and Administrator modules in the licensing
windows.) Be sure you have matched the license codes (nnnnn.lic file name)
to the hardware key number or the licenses will not be recognized.
• Have you waited too long to install the licenses? If you have purchased a
periodic license (such as an Annual or EZCap license), the license codes
include an “enter by” date. If you do not install the licenses until after that
date, the license codes will not be valid. Contact your InputAccel Capture
for Documentum sales representative for assistance with this issue.
• Is the hardware key connected to the server but faulty? You will need to
contact your InputAccel Capture for Documentum technical support
representative to help you determine whether or not you need a new
hardware key.
