1.1 BACKGROUND

MyCAT stand for my cocuricullar activity. MyCAT is similar to merit points.

Students are highly encouraged to participate in various activities and programs
organised either by student society, faculty, university or others at any level. Each
student’s involvement will be assessed and merit points will be given. Merit points will
be recorded into the MyCAT system. In a faculty, a student’s achievement is not
measured solely depended on his or her CGPA. Total of MyCAT merit points are also
used to determine the student’s excellence in this faculty. A special transcript will be
issued by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) upon graduation to each student
that lists all extra-curricular activities of the student during his or her studies only those
that were recorded by the MyCAT system.

1.2 PURPOSE

This merit points are important to students because they must collect about 200
points before they graduate. By involving in programs students can get experienced.
For an example students join as committee members in a program or they run a program
they can get a lot of experience. Managing a student society is not an easy matter.
Various skills can be developed by a student especially in leadership skills in
management skills including managing the society’s members, funds and time as well
as other important skills such as predicting, preparing paperwork, seeking funds and
etc. Nowadays, if students want to stay at hostel they have to collect MyCAT as many
as they can because not all the students can get hostel. Students have to apply every
semester for hostel registration. So they have to collect as many as they can.

1.3 METHOD

There are few step that we take to produce this video. The first step in producing
this video is doing a research about our title that is the importance of MyCAT. All
of us look up and find information online about MyCAT. After we have done the
research, we make a few question together for the interview. Next is finding the
respondent for our interview session. We have manage to find four respondent
which consist of lecturer, college student council, off-campus residential unit exco
and UPSI’s student.
The last step after we have completed the interview session is editing the video.
In producing this video we use a popular and most used application by student to
edit video that is windows movie maker. In editing this video, we use method like
trimming and cutting, animation, graphic editing and many more. The following
table shows the video production scheduling.

2.0 REFLECTION

Name : Jurifah binti Junaidi

We are given this documentary assignment during our second class which is on 27th
February 2018. Our English proficiency lecturer give a brief on how to do this assignment and
asked us to make a few groups which contain 4-5 person each. After that, we need to find
relevant topic for our assignment before meet Madam Nora for approval. The topic that
approved by Madam Nora is The Importance of Mycat. I am so excited to start completing this
assignment because I think this will be a great experiences for me.

We are start planning this assignment from the day we have got it. We start from
looking at our group members schedule to find free time that we can meet and discuss about
this assignment. Unfortunately, there is no time that we can meet and discuss because all of us
have different schedule. So, we make an agreement that we will not have discussion in real life
but we will discuss in virtual life instead. I am happy because I have got group members that
can tolerate with others.

Because of our different schedule so we decided recording the interview video

individually and submit the video to person that in charge editing the video. Even we record
the interview video individually but we do discuss all of the questions that will be ask to the
interviewee. Even thought we are not meet and discuss in real life but all of us do a great job.

At first we agreed that three person do report and presentation and one person do the
video editing. But we changed and make two person in charge for the video editing because
editing video not as easy as we thought. In this stage we need to meet and do the work together
so we try find some free time to do this assignment before submit it. All of my members
committed in completing this assignment.

Despite all of the challenge, finally we all made it. I feel so blessed having group
members that can tolerate and works as a team. Finally one of the challenges assignment has
done but many more are waiting to be done.

During the second class which is in week 2, we were given a task by Madam Nora that
is to do a documentary video. I feel so excited to do this assignment because I have never done
any documentary video before this. I think that this is my opportunities to experience and learn
new things. However, at the same time I feel a little worried as I have a low confident in
speaking English.

After we have received this task, we create a group consist of four member. We discuss
with each other about the title of our documentary. After we finish our discussion, we come to
an agreement to choose ‘the importance of MyCAT’ as our documentary video title. To make
our discussion easier we have created a whatsapp group so that we can discuss and give opinion
for this assignment. I am happy to have a great teammate for this assignment because everyone
is so understanding.

During doing this assignment we have face a few challenges that is our respondent
suddenly cannot do the interview but fortunately we are able to find another respondent for the
interview. Other than that, we also have problem with our time schedule. We cannot do the
interview recording together as we have different schedule during the promised time with the
respondent. We have decided to do the interview individually. After we have finished the
interview session, we collect all the videos and edit it using windows movie maker.

After we have successfully finished this assignment, I feel so happy and thankful to my
group member for giving a great commitment in doing this assignment. I am very grateful for
the opportunity to learn something new through this assignment. I have learn to be confident
in speaing English during doing the interview. Other than that, I also learn to manage our time
wisely and learn to develop a good teamwork within the group.

Knowing the fact that we will doing this documentary, I felt so excited but at the same
time I am nervous because this my first time doing an assignment that require me to interact
with other person. We had chosen “MyCAT” as our topic as we want to know further about
MyCAT and I personally believe that a lot of University Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI)’s
student still not acknowledge this matter and some of them have a wrong perception. As the
topic was chosen, we have difficulty in shooting the video as we do not came from same courses
and rarely met each other. It was tough to set a time for interview session.

For the interview session, it was difficult to find a respondent which most of them
rejected to be interview. And some of them refuse because they were shy or busy. As I need to
interview those student, first of all I felt lack of confident as I though my English was bad and
I cannot communicate to others but my friends encourage me to believe in myself. Later on I
become more comfortable to speak in English in order to improve my English communication
skills.

After finishing the interview session, I felt relieved because my friends and I had
finished this assignment successfully. There are a lot of benefits that I gain from this
assignment. First, I am more confident to communicate in English with people. Next, this
assignment also can improve my communication skill which I had to met new person and talk
to them. Despite got rejected, but now I feel more comfortable to know a new person. Last but
not least, in order to finishing this documentary we need a good team work, every member
have to work together. I am proud to say that we are working together and we have a good
leader to guide us.

When we get this assignment, we were too excited to do it. Because none of us did not
have any experience doing this documentary. So what I thought is while I’m doing this
documentary I can learn about documentary. For topic it takes about one week to finalise our
topic and send it to madam. We were taking this one week just for choosing topic and finalise
it. We selected several topics and we finalise about the importance of MyCAT.

Before I start the interview session, I have a small conversation with my group
members. The conversation is about how am I going to manage this interview session. I was
too nervous that time. But my group members told me that it’s normal to be nervous on this
time.They have thought me how to hide my nervous that I feel. For an example, if my palms
are sweaty, take a second to wipe them off before I walk into the room and shake our
interviewer hand. After that I didn’t memorize the questions because it won’t be like non-verbal
communication. I prepare myself before I went to interview. I practice with my group members
so that I won’t be tensed on that particular day.

The important lesson I learned during this interviews session is have great people skills.
The lecturer I interview have the ability making me feel good about myself. I have interviewed
her for my assignment purpose and she is so incredibly warm and open that she can actually
make me feel more comfortable doing my work. I have learn how groups function productively.
In order for groups to function productively, students must fulfil individual responsibilities.
My productive group members came prepared, they have contributed to the group interaction.
They have supported me during the interview sessions and they have deliver good work on
time. In order for us to function productively in groups, we have the right to expect on ourself
to value our individual contributions, to address behaviours that compromise group
productivity and to divide the work equitably among members.
