EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In the past, crafting and “doing it yourself” (DIY) seemed to be reserved for
grandmas and middle aged women book club activities. Now, young adults under the
age of 35 dominate the 29-billion-dollar crafting industry. Millennials are bringing together
technology, creativity and entrepreneurism as they take on more DIY projects.
Harnessing this new mentality is key for brands breaking into the millennial market. For
brands that want to tap into the millennial DIY culture, they must understand the millennial
desire for active participation, individual customization and experiential value.

Considering all of these, DIYsigns is establishing a new horizon that has the goal
of rekindling the interest of millennials through incorporating the art of crafting into their
fashionable and exclusive items. The product line consists of bookmarks, paper clips, and
keychains. These will be marketed to the youths and teachers of Santa Barbara.

The people behind DIYsigns values creativity and self-reliance. In this way,
DIYsigns will use traditional and contemporary techniques, ideas and materials to make
extraordinary new products and are highly encouraged and emphasized in the marketing
strategies.

This business plan not only serves as a roadmap for development of the foundation
in the coming years, but also provides a transparent overview of the business, seeking to
inform potential partners and all those who seek to get involved or better acquainted with
the business’ work.

II. DESCRIPTION OF THE BUSINESS

In the wake of all the new technology that is used for production, the activity of
making something without using professional assistance or DIY (Do-It-Yourself) is not
new. However, it is somewhat become of a challenge online on how far you can go without
spending too much money. How creative a person can be? DIYsigns has taken the
challenge of recognizing a trend to create handcrafted yet still eye-catching products.

DIYsigns is a start-up business offering DIY products mainly bookmarks, paper


clips and keychains. The company is a partnership between young individuals and
planning to locate the business at Santa Barbara National Comprehensive High School,
Roosevelt St., Sta. Barbara, Iloilo catering to target groups of students and even teachers.
The product concept of the business was triggered by various motivation such as need
for customization, desire to share own creation and to push the limits of what one can do
with the little to no expense and elaborate resources. In addition to the offering of unique
products and excellent customer service, the products’ true value will complement the
customer’s choice.

 To provide unique and affordable school accessories to students and professionals
by executing creative design ideas and highlighting the DIY movement.

 To be known as the most creative and resourceful company in the crafting industry.

IV. MARKETING PLAN


Product:

DIYsigns items comprised of different variety of products which are bookmarks,


paperclips, and key chains with different style of prints and designs. Differentiation to the
product offering is necessary to capture the customer base. With this regard, products
are given emphasis on the design front and designs would be based on several themes.
The following are the corresponding category of items to be offered:

a. BOOKMARKS

Bookmarks are not just a scraps of paper. What you use to mark your place is as
important as what you’re reading. DIYsigns bookmarks are unique customizable product
and readers could easily enable to return with ease. The great thing about with DIYsigns
bookmarks is that, it is affordable regardless of its personalized design.

Price plays an important role in business. In order to enter into the local market,
DIYsigns have decided to use “New Product Pricing Strategy” as the business want to
enter into the market slowly and grab the market share with the highest possible profit.
Once DIYsigns, via low cost products, has established a relationship with consumers, the

In delivering DIYsigns products the customers may locate them at Santa Barbara
National Comprehensive High School, Roosevelt Street, Santa Barbara, Iloilo. This could
be an accessible place to the target market which is the students and teachers.
Orders would also be taken online (via Facebook) from the customers apart from
being available in the retail. Customers can be facilitated to get their required product on
their door-steps, ultimately saving their time and energy.

Promotion:

DIYsigns primary means of acquainting the target group will be personal selling.
The business will support other channels of promoting with an allocated budget and
running strong awareness and image-building campaigns through:
1. Advertising

As part of promotional strategy, DIYsigns will run striking and informative ads
through flyers and brochures. The flyers and brochures will be handed-out around the
campus.
2. Social Media

DIYsigns, being a start-up business, advertising on social media is one of the most
effective ways of getting acknowledged. Social media is a perfect place to showcase the
creations and start in building relationships with enthusiastic customers. To be precise,
this can be an incredibly cost-effective way to find new customers where they spend a
great deal of time.

3. Sales

DIYsigns will offer discounts to drive sales and reward loyal customers. However,
this way of promotion will not be occurring often and in limited time only.

V. BUSINESS REQUIREMENT

A. Staffing
Manager will take decision to improve working condition of the business as well as
recruiting manpower, set up distribution channel etc. by consulting opinions from the
marketing section, human resources and accounting officer. The manager will also
conduct research regarding better quality for surviving in the market.
Marketing Staff is responsible for promoting and selling the products. Also
marketing staff will be required to use a wide range of creative techniques to communicate
with the customer and maximize the publicity of the business.
Production Supervisor will manage the production teams by overseeing workers,
maintains work flow by monitoring steps of the process and as well as the continuous
training of all employees as tasks change over time.
Accounting Staff will maintain financial reports and records; prepare and analyze
budgets; and perform general bookkeeping. Staff accountants also perform
administrative duties such as maintaining schedules, filing, transcription and the
production of forms.
Product Designer needs to discuss, understand and interpret the needs, ideas and
requirements of the customers accurately. They must consider how the raw materials will
be used and what properties it needs. These properties include the quality, durability etc.
of the material used.
Quality Control Inspector needs to keep accurate records of products checked and
discuss how quality standards can be maintained, or highlight problem areas that require
review. Also to check products for flaws and defects and examine the strength of the final
product.
Workers are responsible in making the finished products- bookmarks, keychains
and paper clips.

VII. CONCLUSION
DIY trend is turning into more than just arts and crafts. Millennials will do it
themselves if they don’t see what they want or cannot find it somewhere. The founders
of DIYsigns, being a millennial themselves, are starting to run the business to further
develop own ideas and extend creative designs to fellow youths. Beside this, personal
interest in the field of arts will lead the business and will result in successful and
sustainable business.

The business plan has been prepared keeping in mind all the factors and taking
financials to the best of the present picture. It is therefore expected that the actual
outcome would represent the true picture of this outlined plan.
