PLACEMENT
CODE OF CONDUCT

We, the students of University Institute of Engineering and


Technology , would like to express our gratitude towards
the faculty of UIET for allowing us to start with the
Placement process in full vigor. We take it as our
responsibility to work for the placement process, with the
guidance from our experienced and learned faculty. We
would be working diligently and honestly for UIET. We
hope to get your full support in all our honest endeavors, in
the same way as we have been receiving till now. We seek
your blessings and guidance in all our future efforts.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
Introduction and Interpretation

1) We, the students of University Institute of Engineering and


Technology, express our heartfelt gratitude to UIET for providing
us the Final Placements facility.

2) Application:
a) This Code applies to us as a student of University Institute of
Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University, Chandigarh.
b) Every student opting for placements should read this Code together with
the general principles prescribed by the Placement Officer/ Placement Cell.
c) It is the responsibility of every student to comply with the
provisions of this code.
d) In this code “meeting” means any meeting of the Placement Officer/
Placement Cell of the UIET, “student” includes any person on the rolls of
the University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University,
Chandigarh, “students of TPC” means the core committee of TPC.

3.1) Scope:
a) conduct or attend the business of our authority (which, in this Code,
includes the activities of UIET Placement Cell).
b) act, claim to act or give the impression we are acting as a
representative of our authority (UIET).
3.2) Where we act as representative of our authority
a) on any other relevant authority, we must, when acting for that other
authority, comply with that other authority’s code of conduct; or
b) on any other body, we must, when acting for that other body, comply
with our authority’s code of conduct, except and insofar as it conflicts
with any other lawful obligations to which that other body may be
subject.

4) General obligations
a) We must treat others with respect.

b) We must not:
i. Do anything which may cause our authority to breach any of the equality
enactments.
ii. Bully any person.
iii. Intimidate or attempt to intimidate any person who is or is likely to be:
(1) A complainant
(2) A witness, or
(3) Involved in the administration of any investigating or proceedings;
in relation to an allegation that a member (including myself) has failed
to comply with his or her authority’s Code of Conduct.
iv. Do anything which compromises or is likely to compromise the
impartiality of those who work for, or on behalf of our authority.

5) We must not:
a) Disclose any information given to us in confidence by anyone, or
information acquired by us which we believe, or ought reasonably to be
aware, is of a confidential nature, except where:
i. We have the consent of a person authorized to give it.
ii. We are required by law to do so.
iii. The disclosure is made to a third party for the purpose of obtaining
professional advice provided that the third party agrees not to disclose
the information to any other person.
iv. The disclosure is:
(1) Reasonable and in the public interest; and
(2) made in good faith and in compliance with the reasonable
requirements of the authority
b) Prevent another person from gaining access to information to which
that person is entitled by law.
6) We must not conduct ourselves in a manner which could be reasonably
regarded as bringing our authority into disrepute.

7) We:
a) must not use or attempt to use our position as a member improperly to
confer on or secure for our self or any other person, an advantage or
disadvantage; and
b) must, when using or authorizing the use by others of the resources of
our authority:
i. act in accordance with our authority’s reasonable requirements;
ii. ensure that such resources are not used improperly for political
purposes (including political party’s purposes); and
iii. Ensure that any resources are not used improperly for personal
use.

8)a) When reaching decisions on any matter, we must have regard to


any relevant advice provided to us by:
i. Director UIET
ii. Training and Placement Officer,
b) We must give reasons for all decisions in accordance with any
statutory requirements and any reasonable additional requirements
imposed by any authority.

GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Placements are provided by University Institute of Engineering and


Technology to the students of B.E./M.E. under the following
conditions:
(i) Code of conduct is followed by all the students.
(ii) No recruiter gives negative feedback about students

2. Registration on the TPC Student Forum is mandatory for each student.

3. Placement activities will be carried out by taking representatives from each


branch.

4. Departmental disputes are to be tackled and resolved within the department


only. No media shall be contacted for any purpose regarding the same.

5. Lapse is defined as any misconduct with regards to rules and


regulations, not following orders of Director/Placement Officer, indecent
attire, not in formals, not reporting to activities in time, not following
rules of Placement Code of Conduct, not able to meet deadlines given by
Director/Placement Officer/ Placement cell, not following attendance
rule.

6. All the professional activities associated with placements can be held


in PANJAB UNIVERSITY (Sec 14 & 25) and can extend even after
10p.m.

7. Students of the Batch will prepare an exhaustive list of companies to be


targeted for Placements.

8. The students must strictly adhere to the dress code that is, White Shirt
with Black Trousers/Skirts and Black Formal Shoes/Bellies for all the
activities organized by the placement cell unless stated otherwise.

9. As placement activities are fast paced, students can be asked to assemble at a


short notice. If any student fails to turn up, it will be considered a lapse as defined
under point 5 of General Code of Conduct.

10. Students will have to register themselves within the stipulated time,
to appear for the particular company. The mechanism of registrations will
be specified along with the notification. Once registered, the candidate will
have to appear for that company, failing to which, disciplinary action can
be taken against him/her.

11. If any Placement Representative is found misusing his/her position or not


performing his/her duty or is involved in concealment of important
information, strict action as decided by Placement cell/ Placement Officer will
be taken against him/her.

12. The Placement Representatives are required to properly document the


details of the companies to be contacted for the placement process.

ATTENDANCE RULES

1. Each student shall ensure a minimum of 75% attendance for Guest


Lectures/Seminars and 90% for Pre-placement Lectures. Proper
attendance records will be maintained by Placement Cell.

2. Students will not be allowed to sit for the selection process of a company if
they do not attend its PPT.

3. Every student even if he/she has been placed has to abide by the attendance
rules regarding the Guest Lectures and Pre-placement Talks.

4. If, after placement, a student’s attendance goes below the minimum required
criteria, then a letter will be sent by the Director to the company where he/she
has been placed and strict actions can be taken.

5. Students will be informed at least two hours prior to the Guest Lecture or Pre
-placement Talk/any other activity. All students should be seated in the
auditorium, at least 15 minutes before such activity.

6. It is mandatory for the students to keep their mobile phones switched


off during all of the Guest Lectures/PPTs/Seminars.
7. No student will be allowed to move out of the auditorium once the Guest
Lecture/PPT/Seminars etc. has started.

TRAINING & PLACEMENT POLICY

1. There would be three Placement slabs according to the package offered:


Slab A: 3.0-5.0 LPA (Gold)
Slab B: 5.0-10.0 LPA (Platinum)
Slab C: Above 10 LPA (Dream)
2. Each student is entitled for only 1 job offer in any of the 3 slabs and a maximum of 2 job
offers in any case.
3. However, the student can sit for another opportunity only if the other job is in a different
slab and has a package difference of more than +3.0 LPA.
4. Also, in some cases, the second offer would depend on whether the first company allows
the selected students to appear for other placements activities or not. In exceptional cases (for
e.g. if the package difference is +10.0 LPA) the candidate can put forward his case before the
TPO. The decision of the TPO would be final.
5. Definition of Core/Non-Core Jobs
a) If a company allows only CSE and/or IT branch(s) then it would be treated as a
core company to CSE and/or IT.
b) A company having job-profile of a programmer/Computer Engineer/Computer
Analyst/Software Engineer but allows CSE and/or IT and/or ECE and/or EEE
will be treated as a core company for CSE and/or IT only.
c) A company having profile of "Core-Electronics" but allows other branches to sit in
the recruitment process, then it should be considered as a core company for ECE only.
d) If a company allows only ECE and/or EEE branch(s) then it would be treated as a
core company to ECE and/or EEE.
e) If a company allows only EEE and/or Mechanical branch then it would be considered
as a core company to EEE and/or Mechanical.
f) If a company allows only Biotechnology branch then it would be considered as a
core company to Biotechnology.
g) Any company offering an R&D profile for a particular specialization or branch will
be considered a core company to that branch.
h) If any company not falling under the criteria stated in 5.a – 5.g for a core
company or is offering a similar job profile to more than 3 streams then it will be
treated as a non-core company.
6. It is mandatory for every student to have 75% attendance in all events and tests
conducted by TPC. If a student fails to have 75%attendence he/she can be debarred from
placements. If 3/4th majority of the TPC agree on any decision, then it will be considered
final.
7. The Placement Cell of UIET comprising of faculty coordinators & student
coordinators can change/amend any rule. If 2/3 rd majority of the TPC Core (students and
faculty) agrees on any decision, then it will be considered as final.
8. In rare case, if a student is not getting the Joining Letter/ Date (or any other Genuine
Problem) from his/her latest Job Offer, then TPC may consider to allow him/her to apply for
another job. This would require passing of this matter from TPC Core (Students + Faculty)
with 2/3rd majority.
9. If a student does not appear to complete the selection process of a company after applying
for a company then he/she will be debarred for next two/more companies in which he/she is
eligible, as decided by the TPO.
10. A student can get a maximum of one Training Offer through Campus Placements.
11. In the case of mass recruiters, the above rule 2 & 3 might be altered and will be informed
to the students beforehand.

POST-PLACEMENT RULES

1. The appointment letters will be handed over to the students by the Placement
Officer/Placement Cell.

2. Any feedback form/document sent by the company that requires


immediate response from the selected student will be passed on to the student
immediately.

3. A letter will be sent by registered post/e-mail to the parents of the


students by the Director or the Placement Officer in case of any indiscipline
or disrespect towards the Code of Conduct after getting selected.
4. Companies will be told to accept students for joining only after receiving
an approval letter from the Director/Placement Officer.

FINES AND PENALTIES


1. Any rule can be added/deleted/edited at any time by the Placement Committee.
2. Any major decision can only be taken with the 2/3rd of the majority of TPC Core (faculty
and students) and the TPO’s consent.
3. All students should be in decent dress while attending guest lecturers/PPTs/seminars.
4. Any lapse (as defined above) on the part of any student shall result in his/her being
debarred from placement process or any other suitable punishment as decided by the
Training and Placement Officer.
5. Any student not complying with the specific instructions issued by the Placement
Coordinator/ Director with regards to the proper uniform, CV submission and updating shall
be debarred from the placement process as mentioned under definition of lapses in point 5 of
General Code Of Conduct.
6. Flow of information should strictly be through proper channel and students are supposed
to follow the channel. Students should first approach the Branch Placement Convener and
then the Chief Placement Coordinator.
7. Placement Representative is responsible for all the students of his/her branch and in case
any student breaches any rule, he/she can also be punished.
8. Any activity which disrupts the smooth functioning of the placement process is liable for
punishment as per the severity of the disruption. Any of the following action may be taken :-
a) Debarred from “N” no of companies.
b) Suspended from the Institution.
9. If a student clears the written test and doesn’t appear for the interview, strict (any)
action can be taken by the TPO.

DECLARATION BY THE STUDENT

1. I have read the Code of Conduct, available at UIET website


(www.uiet.puchd.ac.in) and pledge to abide by the rules.
2. I will not violate the Code of Conduct proposed by the placement
committee, in any form.
3. This Code of Conduct has been prepared by all the students and faculty of
B.E Final year of UIET after series of meetings/ discussions.
4. I would not disclose any information to a company about other
companies which have already visited or are going to visit the campus.

I hereby solemnly affirm and declare that I have read the Placement Code of
Conduct of Batch 2015-2019 completely and agree to fully abide by it.
