6 Segun Bassand y Hainard (1985: 66), los principales parametros que definen al
actor social son los siguientes: 1) el actor social ocupa siempre una o varias posicione
en la estructura social; 2) no se lo concibe sino en interacci6n permanente con otros
actores sociales; 3) esta dotado de alguna forma de poder; 4) comporta siempre una
identidad o imagen de si mismo en relaci6n con otros; 5) por lo general posee un
proyecto (de vida cotidiana o de sociedad) que fija objetivos y define los medios para
lograrlos; 6) se encuentra en permanente proceso de socializaci6n. Si adoptamos la
conocida clasificaci6n de Robert K. Merton (1965: 240-249), s6lo pueden ser actores
sociales en sentido propio los individuos, los grupos mas o menos organizados y lo
"colectivos" (v.g. grandes iglesias y comunidades nacionales), pero no las "categorias"
que son agregados estadisticos de posiciones y de estatus sociales. De aqui se infiere e
craso error de los que pretenden atribuir una identidad, una psicologia o u
"caracter" a "los mexicanos", a "las mujeres" o a "lajuventud", por ejemplo.

Esta claro que entre lo que un hombre llama miy lo que simplemente
llama mio la linea divisoria es dificil de trazar... En el sentido mas amplio
posible [...] el si mismo de un hombre es la suma total de todo lo que
el puede llamar suyo, no s6lo su cuerpo y sus poderes psiquicos, sino
sus ropas y su casa, su mujer y sus nifos, sus ancestros y amigos, su repu-
taci6n y trabajos, su tierra y sus caballos, su yate y su cuenta bancaria
(citado por Larrain, 2001: 26).
