Assessment (Description/Criteria)
The students will be able to create and complete a black line product to turn in. See example that is included
below. The products will be assessed according to how well the students can implement their understandings
into the art product. Further assistance will be given to the students who struggle with painting the rainbow
during the first day of instruction.
Tempera Paint
Scissors
Elmers glue
Construction paper
Cardstock paper
On the second day of instruction I will use the projector to demonstrate the different types of lines and the
students will watch me draw different types of lines and will follow along in their sketch books.
Activities/Procedures
Introduction:
1st day of instruction:
Students will be shown a PowerPoint presentation over the colors of the rainbow and their relevance
to the color wheel.
After the presentation the students will be given tempura paint pallets and I will model where the
colors will be put on the cardstock paper.
The students will follow me by painting a stripe of color one at a time after I do.
After each student has finished their project, if they have time, they will put their wet artworks on the
drying rack and work on their sketch books.
2nd day of instruction:
I will go over the different types of lines with the students and they will follow me by drawing the lines
I present in their sketch books.
After the presentation I will instruct them that we will be using a curvy line, a wavy line, and a straight
line and they will space them out and draw them on their rainbow painting.
After they have their lines drawn on their rainbows, they will cut them out with scissors that I have
provided them.
After the pieces have been cut out I will pass out the black construction paper and they will write their
names on one side then flip it over.
I will pass out glue and the students will then paste each of their rainbow pieces in the same order that
it was originally in while slightly spacing them out so that the implied lines will show.
After they have finished they will put their pieces on the drying rack and will clean up and get ready to
leave the classroom.
