Acknowledgement

Working on our design collection has given us an opportunity to discover our sense of style and
portray it in a matter that best reflects our talent and capabilities.

I would like to thank Prof. Dhanraj Survase our course co-ordinator. A deep sense of gratitude is
owed to Prof. Bhawna Rawat subject Mentor, for imparting her valuable teaching and insights on
my theme and guiding me through. I would also like to thank them for helping me during the
process of pattern making and garment construction, without which it would be impossible to
make this collection.

I would like to thank all the professors belonging to the knitwear department who have thought
us and shared knowledge on various subjects with us during the past four years in this institute
which has been indispensable to the making of this collection.

I am very grateful to NIFT for giving me an opportunity to put forward my skills and expand my
horizon.

Preface

Design Collection during the course of final semester at NIFT is an incredible

opportunity for every student to showcase his/her work, style and talent. It provides
us with a platform where we can express ourselves and at the same time polish the
skills we’ev acquired in the years we have studied in this institute.
For my design collection I wanted to work on ethnic wear in circular knits.
Here is an excerpt of the theme this collection is based on.
Today when everyone is surrounded by technology science and reasons sometime
people needs to loose themselves in world of magical and adventurous stories. The
Arabian nights is one such story. My collection is an ode to the tales in the Arabian
nights which takes us to the journey of Sindbad the sailor, adventures of Aladdin and
magic of Alibaba and 40 thieves…..

Concept- STORYTELLER
My concept is storyteller. Storytelling is world’s oldest profession. Since the very beginning of time humans have
narrated and told their stories in different ways. They have drawn it, sculpted it, written it and have passed it on
orally from generation to generation, keeping the traditions, morals, experiences, emotions alive through the
medium of stories. These stories of life, fantasies, morals, experiences being passed on from one generation to the
other one what becomes epics, myths, fairy tales, classics, fictions and folk lore. The story teller be it a human, book
painting or play acts as a portal which take us to a world where you see, hear and feel thing which are
unexplainable in real world but are as real as the one we live in . There is a whole different and number and
numbers of world which travels with a storyteller. He makes us believe and ask question. The story teller always
tells a true story, whether it has happened or not, that is the power of a story teller. They say many false things like
a true saying, binding and enchanting them with magic, characters, unrealistic but so desirable events, places and
what not that makes our own world fade away and for us to wish that we don’t come back to this world, even if we
are in a world where count Dracula. He creates world of Narnia, he builds Hogwarts, he takes us to adventures of
Sindbad, and he defines the beauty of Shire. Throughout the time; these storytellers has told, showed, taught and
made us learn about life and ways to live rather than merely exist.

Mood- THE ARABIAN NIGHTS

From the concept Storyteller, I’ve taken The Arabian Nights as my mood; Arabian Nights in a way is not just a story
about adventures, wizards, and thieves’ magic etcetera it’s also a story about one the world’s most legendary and
enchanting storyteller “SCHEHERAZADE” a Persian queen who weaves and narrates the story for thousand and
one night to save herself from her husband King Shahryar who had a cruel habit of marrying and killing a new wife
every night kills until he can no longer find any new wife and marries his Vizier's courageous and legendary
daughter, Scheherazade. who plots a cohesive plan to keep her husband, King Shahryar from killing her by
entertaining him with a tale a night for 1,001 nights. She tells him a story every night but, Just as the sun is about to
rise, she reaches the point of critical suspense, and the king, his curiosity piqued, spares her for the next night to
complete her narrative. But the following night only brings another unfinished story.
Through her tales she relates ideas about violence, jealousy, and misogyny in the hopes of exposing these wrongs to
Shahryar. These tales include history, love, tragedies, comedies, it depict Jinns, Ghouls, Apes, sorcerers, magicians,
self-fulfilling prophesies and twisted ways of destiny and legendary places.
