Guidelines:
Wiring Harness Inspection Guidelines
Check for:
·  Tubes, hoses, and wiring harnesses rubbing against:
– One another
– Sharp corners
– Bolt heads
·  Tubes, hoses, and wiring harnesses not properly secured
– Missing clips and/or wire ties
– P-clips not attached

Harness Connector Inspection Guidelines


Check for connectors:
·   Not properly secured in place
·   Rubbing against machine frame
·   Rubbing against sharp edges

Implement Linkage Pin Inspection Guidelines


Check for:
·   Loose or broken flange mounting bolt
·   Elongated bolt hole in flange (hole is located behind pin retaining bolt)
·   Loose or missing pin retainer bolts
·   Irregular shaped pin bores

Hydraulic Cylinder Inspection Guidelines:


Check for:
·   Oil leaks indicated by dirt or oil buildup around the cylinder lip seal
·   Oil leaks at hose connections
·   Damage to cylinder rods
·   Damage or wear to linkage pins (refer to “Pin Inspection Guidelines” for inspection procedure)

1. Inspection Preparation:

1.1 Check with customer for operator complaints


1.2 Perform walk-around inspection
·   Make sure no one is underneath the machine, around the machine, or on the machine. Be sure the area is free of personnel.
·   Walk around the machine and inspect underneath the machine for visible signs of fluid leaks
·   Check the engine oil, hoist/converter/brake oil, transmission oil, steering oil and coolant levels. If necessary, add oil or coolant to reach minimum level for each system.
1.3 Perform machine inspection preparation
·   Park the machine on a level surface in the recommended service position.
·   Make sure the tractor transmission control is in the NEUTRAL position. Move the throttle control to the LOW IDLE position. If equipped, make sure that the
scraper transmission selector shaft is in the NEUTRAL position.
·   Engage the parking brake.
·   Lower the bowl and the apron to the ground. Move the ejector to the forward position.
·   Place the cushion-hitch in the off position and lower the bail (if equipped). Turn the key start switch to the OFF position and remove the key.
Remove the battery disconnect key/s and tag the machine out for safety.
1.4 Download Fault Codes
·   Download machine fault codes using Electronic Technician (ET)

1.6 Observe engine exhaust colors
·   Start the machine and observe exhaust colors:
–   White smoke after initial startup could indicate coolant in the engine cylinders
–   Blue smoke during startup may indicate oil in the engine cylinders
–   Continuous black smoke could indicate an improper air/fuel mixture
–   Continuous grey smoke may indicate a fuel timing problem
1.7 Listen for unusual noises
·   Excessive noise coming from engine compartment could indicate:
–   Fuel injector damage
–   Engine bearing damage
–   Valve train damage
·   Excessive noise coming from hydraulic pumps could indicate either:
–   Pump cavitation
–   A loose or failed bearing
·   Excessive noise coming from the transmission when traveling could indicate:
– Pump cavitation
–   A loose or failed bearing
–   Clutch disc or gear damage
·   Excessive noise coming from the differentials/final drives and drive train when traveling could indicate:
–   Brake disc or gear damage
–   A loose or failed bearing
2 Tractor
2.1 Tractor - Lower Level Inspections:

2.1.1 Tires and Rims


Check for:
·   Proper inflation
·   Cuts, cracks, splits, or bruises in the tread or sidewall area. Bumps or bulges may indicate tire separation
·   Safe tread depth
–   Tire cords or exposed fabric
–   Uneven tread wear
·   Cracks, pits from corrosion, or other visible damage to rims
2.1.2 Final Drives
Check for:
·   Oil leakage around the sealing surface between the axle cover and the planetary housing
·   Oil leakage around the sealing surface between the planetary housing and the final drive housing
·   Oil leakage around the final drive oil drain and fill plugs
·   Coolant leakage around the drain/fill plug for the brake coolant.
2.1.3 Front Differential, Wheel Spindles & Service Brake Housing
Check front differential oil level:
·   If the oil level is low check the following areas for leaks:
–   Sealing surface between the axle housing and the differential housing
–   Dou-cone seal located between the final drive housing and the axle housing
–   Oil leakage around the drain and fill caps
–   Drain plugs located on the bottom of the differential housing
–   Fill cap or sight gauge located at the rear of the differential housing
2.1.4 Brake Actuators
Check brake actuators for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
·   Worn or damaged brake actuator linkage
·   Torn dust boots
2.1.5 Tractor Frame & Bottom Guards
Check for:
·   Damage to frame
·   Structural cracks
·   Cracked welds
·   Missing or damaged bottom guard mounting bolts
·   Damaged or missing bottom guards

2.2 Tractor - Middle Level Inspections:

2.2.1 Torque Converter, Transmission, & Transfer Gear


Check these components and the area around them for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn wiring harnesses or connectors
·   Oil leakage around drain plugs
·   Oil or dirt buildup on the mating surfaces and bolted covers
2.2.2 Transmission Pump, Transmission Oil Filter & Hydraulic System Pilot Oil Filter
Check for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged or worn hoses
·   Rubbing, damaged or worn wiring harnesses or connectors
·   Oil or dirt buildup on filter housings and filter bases
·   Oil leakage around the drain plug
·   Leaks between the cover and the filter housing
·   Leaks between the sealing surfaces of transmission charge pump and scavenge pump
2.2.3 Elevator Pump & Cushion Hitch Pump
Check for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn wiring harnesses or connectors
2.2.4 Implement/Steering Pump
Check for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn wiring harnesses or connectors
2.2.5 Bail and Bail Cylinder
Check bail cylinder for:
(Refer to “Hydraulic Cylinder Inspection Guidelines” for inspection procedure)
·   Oil leaks indicated by dirt or oil buildup around the cylinder lip seal
·   Oil leaks at hose connections
·   Damage to cylinder rods
Check linkage pins for:
(Refer to “Implement Linkage Pin Inspection Guidelines” for inspection procedure)
·   Loose, damaged or worn pin joints
·   Loose or broken flange pin mounting bolts
·   Elongated bolt hole in pin flange
·   Irregular shaped pin bores
Check push block for:
·   Damaged spring
·   Excessive wear or cracked welds
2.2.6 Air Tank & Air Dryer
Check for:
·   Loose or damaged hoses and connections
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps
·   Moisture in the air tanks by opening the air tank drain valves
–  If moisture is present, the air desiccant cartridge inside the air dryer must be changed
2.2.7 Steps & Handrails
Ensure that steps and handrails are in place and check for:
·   Damaged, missing, or loose bolts
·   Damage to steps or handrails
·   Excessive dirt or debris
2.2.8 Work Lights & Hazard Lights
Check road lights, turn signals, hazard flashers, work lights, and other lights for:
·    Proper operation
·   Cracked or broken lenses
·   Damaged wiring harnesses
·   Loose or damaged mounting brackets
2.2.9 Batteries & Battery Cables
Check for:
·   Corrosion on battery posts and cable connections
·   Loose or improperly secure battery cables
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn battery cables
–  Pay particular attention to condition of “B+” battery cables and negative cable running from the battery to the disconnect switch
·   Loose or improperly secured battery hold downs
·   Dirt and debris buildup on and around batteries
·   Damaged or loose battery cover

2.3 Tractor - Upper Level Inspections:

2.3.1 Hood and Platform


Check for:
·   Structural damage
·   Debris or excessive dirt on the steps and service platform
·   Loose or damaged bolted access covers
·   Proper function of access panel hinges and latches
·   Weak or damaged gas strut for hood support
2.3.2 Radiator, Hydraulic Oil Cooler, ATAAC & Condenser
Check for:
·   Plugged cores
·   Damaged fins
·   Cracked or damaged mounts
2.3.3 Radiator, Hydraulic Oil Cooler, ATAAC & Condenser Lines
Check for:
·   Rubbing, cracked, damaged or worn hoses and tubes
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps
·   Improperly secured lines
2.3.4 Radiator Cap
Check:
·   If the radiator is cool, check the radiator cap gaskets for wear or for damage
2.3.5 Fan & Fan Guard
Check for:
·   Loose, damaged, or missing bolts
·   Loose or damaged wire fan guard
·   Loose or damaged fan shroud
·   Damaged, cracked, or missing fan blades
2.3.6 Belts and Belt Tensioners
Check for:
·   Worn, Cracked or Frayed Belts
·   Proper Belt Tension
·   Damaged or worn belt tensioner
·   Worn or damaged pulleys
·   Loose, damaged or missing pulley and belt tensioner mounting bolts
2.3.7 Front Engine Mounts
Check for:
·   Worn or damaged rubber mounts
·   Loose, damaged, or missing retaining bolts
·   Structural damage or weld cracks in the mounting frame
2.3.8 Water Pump
Check for:
·   Coolant leaks around water pump mounting flange
·   Coolant leaks through the weep hole in the water pump housing
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn coolant hoses
·   Loose or leaking coolant hose connections
2.3.9 Alternator & Air Conditioning Compressor
Check for:
·   Rubbing, damaged or worn electrical harnesses
·   Loose or corroded wiring connections
·   Damaged or leaking air conditioning charging valves
·   Oil leaks around air conditioning compressor clutch
2.3.10 Air Cleaner Assembly & Precleaner
Check for:
·   Dirt and/or debris in the precleaner
·   Dirt and/or debris in the air cleaner inlet tube
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps securing air inlet tube, turbocharger air inlet tube, and dust ejector hose
·   Loose or damaged air cleaner cover latches
·   Cut or damaged turbo air inlet tube
·   Properly functioning air filter restriction indicator sensor
2.3.11 Fuel Lines, Priming Pump, Fuel Filters & Filter Bases
Check for:
·   Loose, cracked or damaged mounts
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn fuel lines
·   Loose or leaking fuel line connections
·   Fuel leaks around the filters and filter bases
2.3.12 Turbocharger
Check for:
·   Black soot around the areas where the turbocharger bolts to the to the exhaust manifold or to the exhaust pipe which would indicate:
–  Loose connections at the joints
–  Loose or broken mounting bolts
·   Oil leakage around the turbocharger oil line
·   Dirt tracks which may indicate air inlet or boost air leaks due to worn or damaged hoses.
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps at the air inlet tube and compressor housing connection
·   Damaged or missing turbocharger heat shield
2.3.13 Exhaust Manifold
Check for:
·   Black soot indicating a loose, broken, damaged connection around the following sealing surfaces:
–  Where the exhaust manifold bolts to the cylinder head
–  Clamps and baffles between manifold segments on each cylinder head
–  Where the exhaust manifold bolts to the turbocharger turbine inlet
·   Cracks or other damage to the exhaust manifold housing and muffler
·   Loose or broken manifold mounting bolts
·   Corrosion or damage to the muffler
·   Loose or broken muffler clamps or mounting bolts
2.3.14 Engine Wiring Harness
Check engine harness for the following:
·    Loose P-clips / broken wire ties
·    Cracked or broken connectors
·    Damaged wiring harnesses
·   Loose or damaged mounting brackets
2.3.15 Engine Oil Pan
Check for oil on the bottom of the oil pan.
·    If oil is found on the pan, inspect the following:
–  Check for leaks around the oil pan mounting flange
–  Check for leaks around the oil level sensor, drain plug, dipstick tube, turbo lube return & other component connection points in the oil pan
–  If the oil pan is not visible, check the bottom guard for oil residue. Oil leakage on the guard may be an indication of an engine oil leak.
2.3.16 Cylinder Heads & Valve Covers
Check for:
·   Oil and dust buildup around the sealing surfaces between:
–  Valve covers & rocker boxes
–  Rocker boxes & cylinder heads
–  Cylinder head & engine block
Leakage in these areas would indicate:
o   Loose connection at the joint
o   Damaged gasket or seal
o   Improperly torqued bolts
·   Dirt and debris buildup in engine oil breather
2.3.17 Air Compressor
Check for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn wiring harnesses or connectors
2.3.18 Cushion Hitch Accumulator
Check for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
·   Damaged accumulator charging valve
2.3.19 Cushion Hitch & Cushion Hitch Load Cylinder
Check load cylinder for:
·   Oil leaks indicated by dirt or oil buildup around the cylinder lip seal
·   Oil leaks at hose connections
·   Damage to cylinder rod
Check linkage pins for:
·   Loose, damaged or worn pin joints
·   Loose or broken retaining bolts
·   Broken or damaged grease lines or grease fittings
·   Irregular shaped pin bores
·   Worn or damaged pins
(Refer to “Implement Linkage Pin Inspection Guidelines” for inspection procedure)
2.3.20 Steering Linkage, Steering Cylinders & Steering Servo Cylinder
Check steering cylinders for:
·   Oil leaks indicated by dirt or oil buildup around the cylinder lip seal
·   Oil leaks at hose connections
·   Damage to cylinder rod
·   Loose, damaged or worn pin joints
Check steering linkage pins for:
·   Loose or broken retaining bolts
·   Broken or damaged grease lines or grease fittings
·   Irregular shaped pin bores
·   Worn or damaged pins
(Refer to “Implement Linkage Pin Inspection Guidelines” for inspection procedure)
2.3.21 Cab Exterior
Check for:
·   Bent or damaged cab structure
·   Cracked or broken glass
·   Damaged or missing mirrors
·   Worn or broken windshield wiper arm or wiper blade
2.3.22 Cab Interior
Check for:
·   Excessive dirt in cab air filter
·   Proper function of seat and seat belt
·   Wear or damage to seat belt
·   Seat belt replacement date
·   Proper function of door and latches
·   Worn or broken window latches or slides
·   Damaged or inoperable gauges and controls
·   Proper function of Backup alarm

3 Scraper
3.1 Scraper - Lower Level Inspections:

3.1.1 Ejector
Check for:
·   Damage to frame and rear support braces
·   Structural cracks
·   Cracked welds
·   Proper clearance between ejector and scraper bowl floor
3.1.2 Ejector Cylinder
Check cylinder for:
·   Oil leaks indicated by dirt or oil buildup around the cylinder lip seal
·   Damage to cylinder rod
·   Oil leaks at hose connections
·   Worn or damage hoses
·   Loose, damaged or worn pin joints
·   Irregular shaped pin bores
·   Worn or damaged pins
·   Loose or broken retaining bolts
(Refer to “Implement Linkage Pin Inspection Guidelines” for inspection procedure)
3.1.3 Ejector Support Rollers, Carrier Rollers & Guide Rollers
Check rollers for:
·   Grease leaking from sealing surface between the front cover and the roller
·   Grease leaking from lip seal located on the back side of the roller
·   Excessive wear on the surfaces where the roller rides on the guides or the bottom wear surface of the bowl.
·   Excessive wear on the guides or surface where carrier roller rides on the bowl
·   Loose or damaged mounting bolts
3.1.4 Floor Cylinder (Elevating Scraper)
Check cylinder for:

3.1.5 Floor Rollers (Elevating Scraper)
Check rollers for:
·   Grease leaking from sealing surface between the front cover and the roller
·   Grease leaking from lip seal located on the back side of the roller
·   Excessive wear on the surfaces where the roller rides on the guides of the bowl.
·   Excessive wear on the guides
·   Loose or damaged mounting bolts and roller retaining nuts
3.1.6 Cutting Edges & Side Cutters
Check for:
·   Excessive wear on cutting edges
·   Excessive wear on side cutters
·   Loose or damaged mounting bolts
3.1.7 Auger Seal (Auger Scraper)
Check for:
·   Oil leakage around the bottom of the auger bearing housing
–  Oil leakage in this area would indicate the auger seal may be leaking
3.1.8 Auger Wear Shoes & Cutters (Auger Scraper)
Check for:
·   Excessive wear or damage to wear shoes
·   Excessive wear damage to cutters
·   Loose or damaged mounting bolts
3.1.9 Rear Frame
Check for:
·   Damage to frame
·   Structural cracks
·   Cracked welds
·   Damaged or missing bottom guards

3.2 Scraper - Middle Level Inspections:

3.2.1 Push Plate & Hook


Check for:
·   Loose, missing or broken mounting blocks, mounting bolts and retaining pins
·   Cracks or damage to the hook and hook frame
·   Structural damage to the push plate
3.2.2 Draft Arm Frame & Bearings
Check for:
·   Structural cracks, cracked welds or damage to draft arm frame
·   Loose or missing draft arm flange bolts
·   Missing or damaged guards
·   Excessive wear in the trunion/draft arm bearing socket
·   Missing or loose bearing cap bolts
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
3.2.3 Draft Arm Wear Plates
Check for:
·   Excessive clearance between the wear plate welded to the scraper bowl and the shoe attached to the inside surface of the draft arm
·   Check for loose or missing shoe mounting bolts
·   Excessive wear on the wear plate
3.2.4 Bowl Lift Cylinders
Check cylinder for:
·   Oil leaks indicated by dirt or oil buildup around the cylinder lip seal
·   Damage to cylinder rod
·   Oil leaks at hose connections
·   Worn or damage hoses
·   Broken or damaged grease lines or grease fittings
·   Loose, damaged or worn pin joints
·   Irregular shaped pin bores
·   Worn or damaged pins

3.2.5 Apron

3.2.9 Elevator Chain & Flights (Elevating Scraper)

·   Excessive slack in the elevator chain
·   Worn or damaged chain links

·   Loose or missing flight mounting bolts
3.2.10 Elevator Chain Alignment Idlers (Elevating Scraper)
Check for:
·   Loose or damaged bearings
·   Grease leaking from sealing surface between the front cover and the roller
·   Grease leaking from lip seal located on the backside of the roller
·   Excessive wear on the surfaces where the chain rides on the roller
·   Loose, damaged or missing mounting bolts
·   Broken or damaged grease fittings
3.2.11 Elevator Chain Rollers (Elevating Scraper)
Check for:
·   Loose or damaged bearings
·   Oil leakage from the Duo-cone seals located on each side of the chain roller
·   Oil leakage from the oil level plugs and the drain/fill plugs
·   Excessive wear on the surfaces where the chain rides on the roller
·   Loose or damaged mounting bolts

3.3 Scraper - Upper Level Inspections:

3.3.1 Elevator Speed Reducer & Drive Sprockets (Elevating Scrapers)


Check for:
·   Oil leaks at hose connections
·   Worn or damage hoses
·   Oil or dirt buildup on the mating surfaces of speed reducer and drive motor
·   Oil leakage from the oil level plug, drain plug and fill plug
·   Oil leakage from the Duo-cone seal located between the speed reducer and the sprocket output drive
Inspect sprocket for:
·   Broken or chipped teeth
·   Sharp tips on sprocket teeth
–  Sharp tips on teeth indicate excessive sprocket wear
·   Loose or missing mounting bolts
3.3.2 Auger Motor & Drive Gear (Auger Scraper)
Check for:
·   Oil leaks at hose connections
·   Worn or damage hoses
·   Oil or dirt buildup on the mating surfaces of auger drive gear and drive motor
·   Oil leakage from the Duo-cone seal located between the auger drive gear and the auger output drive
·   Oil leakage from the drain plug and fill plug
·   Damaged or leaking sight gauge
3.3.3 Fuel Tank & Fuel Lines
Check for:
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn fuel lines
·   Loose or leaking fuel line connections
·   Structural damage to tank or welds
·   Plugged breather
·   Damaged fill cap or fill cap seal
·   Worn or damaged rubber mounts

4. Scraper Power Pack


4.1 Scraper Power Pack - Lower Level Inspections:

4.1.1 Tires and Rims


Check for:
·   Proper inflation
·   Cuts, cracks, splits or bruises in the tread or sidewall area. Bumps or bulges may indicate tire separation
·   Safe tread depth
–  Tire cords or exposed fabric
–  Uneven tread wear
·   Cracks, pits from corrosion or other visible damage to rims
4.1.2 Final Drives
Check for:
·   Oil leakage around the sealing surface between the axle cover and the planetary housing
·   Oil leakage around the sealing surface between the planetary housing and the final drive housing
·   Oil leakage around the final drive oil drain and fill plugs
·   Coolant leakage around the drain/fill plug for the brake coolant.
4.1.3 Brake Actuators
Check brake actuators for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
·   Worn or damaged brake actuator linkage
·   Torn dust boots
4.1.4 Differential & Bevel Gear Housing
Check differential oil level:
·   If the oil level is low check the following areas for leaks:
–  Sealing surface between the axle shaft guard and the bearing retainer
–  Sealing surface between the bearing retainer and the differential housing cover
–  Sealing surface between the differential housing cover and the differential housing
–  Oil leakage around the differential drain plug
–  Sealing surface where the oil fill tube connects to the differential housing
–  Sealing surface between the pinion bearing retainer and the bevel gear housing
Check for:
·   Loose or damaged differential mounting bolts
4.1.5 Driveshaft
Check for:
·   Loose or missing U-joint retainer bolts
·   Worn U-joints
·   Grease leaking from U-joint seals
·   Oil leaks indicated by dirt or oil buildup around the pinion lip seal
4.1.6 Torque Converter, Transmission, & Transfer Gear
Check these components and the area around them for:
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn hoses
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn wiring harnesses or connectors
·   Oil leakage around drain plugs
·   Oil or dirt buildup on the mating surfaces and bolted covers
·   Driveshaft yoke seals

4.2 Scraper Power Pack - Upper Level Inspections:

4.2.1 Steps & Handrails


Ensure that steps and handrails are in place and check for:
·   Damaged, missing, or loose bolts
·   Damage to steps or handrails
·   Excessive dirt or debris
4.2.2 Hood & Platforms
Check for:
·   Structural damage
·   Debris or excessive dirt on the steps and service platform
·   Loose or damaged bolted access covers
·   Proper function of access panel hinges and latches
4.2.3 Power Pack Control Panel
Check for:
·   Damaged or inoperable gauges and controls
·   Proper function of access panel sliding door and latches
4.2.4 Radiator and Aftercooler
Check for:
·   Plugged cores
·   Damaged fins
·   Plugged or damaged screens
·   Rubbing, damaged or worn hoses and tubes
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps
·   Cracked or damaged mounts
4.2.5 Upper & Lower Radiator and Aftercooler Lines
Check for:
·   Rubbing, damaged or worn hoses and tubes
·   Leaks around hose connections
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps
·   Improperly secured lines
4.2.6 Radiator Cap
·   If the radiator is cool, check the radiator cap gaskets for wear or for damage
4.2.7 Fan, Fan Guard & Shroud
Check for:
·   Loose, damaged, or missing bolts
·   Loose or damaged wire fan guard
·   Loose or damaged fan shroud
·   Damaged, cracked, or missing fan blades
4.2.8 Belts & Belt Tensioners

·   Worn, Cracked or Frayed Belts
·   Proper Belt Tension

4.2.9 Front Engine Mounts

·   Coolant leaks around water pump mounting flange
·   Coolant leaks through the weep hole in the water pump housing

4.2.12 Engine Wiring Harness
Check engine harness for the following:
·    Loose P-clips / broken wire ties

4.2.13 Electric Starting Motor
Check for:
·   Proper operation of the electric starting motor
–  Listen for grinding or unusual noises when starting the engine
·   Damage or wear to the wiring harness
·   Loose or damaged connections at the electric starting motor and starting motor solenoid
4.2.14 Engine Air Cleaner & Precleaner
Check for:
·   Dirt and/or debris in the precleaner
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps securing air inlet tube, turbocharger air inlet tube, and dust ejector hose
·   Loose or damaged air cleaner cover latches
·   Cut or damaged turbo air inlet tube
·   Properly functioning air filter restriction indicator sensor
4.2.15 Transmission Oil Filter & Filter Base
Check for:
·   Leaks between oil filter base and the torque converter housing manifold
·   Oil leakage around the drain plug
·   Leaks between the cover and the filter housing
4.2.16 Transmission Pump & Transmission Hydraulic Control Valve
Check for:
·   Leaks around hose and tube connections
·   Rubbing, damaged or worn hoses
·   Rubbing, damaged or worn wiring harnesses or connectors
·   Leaks between the sealing surfaces of transmission charge pump, manifold and scavenge pump
4.2.17 Alternator
Check for:
·   Rubbing, damaged or worn electrical harnesses
·   Loose or corroded wiring connections
4.2.18 Engine Oil Filter and Filter Base
Check for:
·   Cracked or damaged mounts
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn lines
·   Leaks around the filter and filter base
4.2.19 Turbocharger
Check for:
·   Black soot around the areas where the turbocharger bolts to the to the exhaust manifold or attaches to the exhaust pipe which would indicate:
–  Loose connections at the joints
–  Loose or broken mounting bolts
·   Oil leakage around the turbocharger oil lube line and return line
·   Dirt tracks which may indicate air inlet or boost air leaks due to worn or damaged hoses.
·   Loose or damaged hose clamps at the air inlet tube and compressor housing connection
4.2.20 Exhaust Manifold & Muffler
Check for:
·   Black soot indicating a loose, broken, damaged connection around the following sealing surfaces:
–  Where the exhaust manifold bolts to the cylinder head
–  Clamps and baffles between manifold segments on each cylinder head and muffler
–  Where the exhaust manifold bolts to the turbocharger
–  Where the exhaust pipe attaches to the turbocharger turbine outlet and to the muffler
·   Cracks or other damage to the exhaust manifold housing and muffler
4.2.21 Engine Oil Pan
Check for oil on the bottom of the oil pan.
·   If oil is found on the pan, inspect the following:
–  Check for leaks around the oil pan mounting flange
–  Check for leaks around the oil level sensor, drain plug, dipstick tube, turbo lube return & other component connection points in the oil pan
4.2.22 Transmission Oil Tank
Check for:
·   Worn or damaged rubber mounts
·   Loose tank mounting bolts
·   Structural cracks on frame mounting brackets
·   Breather for dirt and debris buildup
·   Oil lines for leaks and loose or damaged connections
·   Sight glass for damage or leaks
·   Damaged fill cap or fill cap seal
4.2.23 Batteries & Battery Cables
Check for:
·   Corrosion on battery posts and cable connections
·   Loose or improperly secure battery cables
·   Rubbing, damaged, or worn battery cables
–   Pay particular attention to condition of “B+” battery cables and negative cable running from the battery to the disconnect switch
·   Loose or improperly secured battery hold downs
·   Dirt and debris buildup on and around batteries
·   Damaged or loose battery cover
