5. Funds Requests

A. Nicola Bordelon, Oak Ridge Nurse. Requesting $180, or $45 per grade level, to be used to purchase
gift cards as awards in the Healthy Poster Contest. Past 2 years, the nurses and health teachers have worked
together to a Healthy Topics Poster Contest offering awards in the form of Scholastic gift cards. Posters are
worked on at home, in health class, and during independent study time in the classrooms. The contest will be
held after winter break until the Friday before February vacation. Some awarded Scholastic gift cards went
unused last year since there was no Book Fair at Oak Ridge in the Spring. Requesting to provide gift cards to
Titcomb’s Book Shop to the winners in the sums of $20, $15, and $10 (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

i. DISCUSS & VOTE:

B. Nicola Bordelon, Oak Ridge Nurse. Requesting $150 to purchase a Stop and Shop gift card, which
will be used to purchase fresh fruit weekly that will be provided to students who forget their snacks. We
estimate a cost of $5 per week. The Sandwich Food Pantry provides food, but we run out of food. In addition,
the money might occasionally be used to purchase a case of small water bottles ($3) to provide students
increased hydration. In 2017-2018 Oak Ridge provided over 300 snacks to students.

i. DISCUSS & VOTE:

C. Elise Natale, Grade 5. Requesting $742 ($3.50 x 212 students) to participate in Wetfest. Fifth grade
students have participated in this program each year, which educates students on water conservation and
the effects of polution on the environment and ecosystems. It supports the science curriculum with work on
the water cycle and balancing Earth’s resources.

introductory and a follow up class) with Naturalists from Massachusetts Long Pond Sanctuary and a field

national standards on life science units.

i. DISCUSS & VOTE:

E. Laura Dunn, Grade 3. Requesting $1,000 to offset the cost of the field trip to Plimoth Plantation on
November 14. Would reduce the cost of the trip by $5 per students; originally $20, now $15. This field trip is
