CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

This research aims to seek information on the “IMPACT OF STUDENT PORTAL TO

THE ACCESSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED GRADE 11 COMPUTER PROGRAMMING

STUDENTS OF ASIAN COLLEGE QUEZON CITY CAMPUS.” The student portal,

according to Calmada (2013) “A website that will serve as an online channel for student concerns.

It is called Student Portal.”

Therefore, the Student Portal is designed with features such as Student Profile to help

students to get filled in regarding the latest school activities, checking their student profile and

grades.

Another information stated by Vangie Beal from an internet article in Webopedia entitled

“Student Portal” A student portal is a commonly used phrase to describe the login page where

students can provide a user name and password to gain access to an education organization's

programs and other learning related materials. For example, a learner who has enrolled in an online

certification program may use a student portal to access online course materials, such as articles,

lectures and videos, hosted on the school's servers. Student portals may be used to provide

information about the school, special events, course details, calendars, academic resources and

contact information. Some student portals may integrate with other systems to provide students

with easy access to personal information, such as as tracking bursary awards and campus medical

insurance.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to find the purpose and the impact of all things that relates to the study of

the study of the researchers entitled, “ IMPACT OF STUDENT PORTAL TO THE

ACCESSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED GRADE 11 COMPUTER PROGRAMMING

STUDENTS IN ASIAN COLLEGE QUEZON CITY CAMPUS” seeks to know the impact of

the student portal to them. Specifically, this research seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What is student portal?

2. What is the importance of student portal to ?

3. What is the impact of student portal to the computer programming students of Asian College?

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study focuses on the grade 11 computer programming students in Asian College

Quezon City. The research sample is composed of thirty (30) students of class COM 181 and

twenty (20) students from COM 182. The primary data gathering method used was likert scale to

determine the impact of student portal to the accessibility of the selected grade 11 computer

programming students. This research used convenience sampling in which where a shared

characteristic among the respondents was applied. The study is delimited to the students of class

COM 181 & 182 and to the study of student portal.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 Selected Computer Programming Students – The student portal will help the students

to easily access their records, violations, announcements, etc…

 Teachers and Administrators – The teachers and administrators will be able to reach and

inform the students anytime instantly due to easy access with the use of announcement.

 Future Researchers – The study of today’s researchers will help and contribute to the

future researchers that will also study the same field. They may continue the study or use

as a reference for their own study.
