Rizal arrived in manila w/ sister lucia – june 26 1862

Rizal and lucia stayed at the hotel oriente in binondo the room facing binondo church

Campaigned for la liga Filipina

Went to malacanang to request gov. general eulegio despujol for pardon for his father, brother and
brothers in law

On his arrival met apolinario mabini, andres bonifacio, amborsio Salvador, timoteo paez, pedro serrano
laktaw, deodato arellano and others

Rizal visited provinces to the north and was warmly welcomed

On july 3 1892 he founded la liga Filipina in house of doroteo ongjuco at ilaya street tondo manila

Jose rizal was summoned by gov gen eulogio despujol bc there were handbills found at lucia’s pillows
that were anti-friar articles that concluded rizal as the one who made it

Gen despujol ordered his arrest and detention at fort Santiago and exiled

July 14, 1892 boardered the streamer cebu and reached dapitan 3 days after.

sept 21, 1892, a boat from butuan arrived with captain carnicero, Francisco equilor and rizal won a 2nd
prize in a lottery amounting 20k

rizal’s share was 6,200. He gave 2000 to his father 200 to his friend jose basa who supported him in his
stay in hongkong and the remaining to buy lands in dapitan

(dec 19,1893) rizal wrote a letter to dr. blumentritt telling his tranquil but fruitful life in dapitan

Bought more lands in talisay where he planted fruit bearing trees and introduced to the people of
dapitan the method of farming

rizal opened a school and was attended by 16 students from the families of dapitan

they did not pay for their tuition instead, they worked on rizal’s projects (field,construction,community)
he beautified dapitan not only for aesthetic purposes but for sanitation purposes w/ fr. Francisco
sanchez (furnished clean water, drained the marshes to lessen malaria)

Made several sculptures but the most popular is “the mother’s revenge”- for his dog Syria that was
devoured by a crocodile

Successfully operated his mother’s eyes

Met Josephine bracken and fell in love with each other but obstacles were numerous

Mr George tuffer refused to allow Josephine to be with rizal because he would lose a companion and
was diagnosed w/ blindness

The church refused to marry them but they lived together and had a son named Francisco who was born
prematurely and died after 3 hrs.

in 1986, the katipuneros planned an armed revolution and asked for rizal’s blessings (Pio Valenzuela) but
did not gave it because he believe that there were no sufficient funds and arms and there is still lack of
military strategy.

Dr blumentritt suggested rizal to volunteer his to the Spanish gov and join their forces as a doctor in
cuba in this way his exile can be ended

On july 26,1896 gov gen general ramon blanco accepted the offer that he wrote for him and gave him a
safety travel back to manila

He sold his lands other items to the people of dapitan

He stayed at dapitan for 4 yrs, 13 days and a few hours.

He boarded , espana and reached manila on aug 6, 1896
