PROJECT SUMMARY INFORMATIOM

1. Project Title
PRORAGS (Profits from Rags)

2. Proponent
Edna P. Salazar

The income generating project spearheaded by the proponent is a community livelihood project

of the residents of Brgy. Dulag, Binmaley.

With the conversion of fishponds and farm lots into either residential or commercial

areas, one of the key issues faced by the residents of Dulag is the lack of economic

opportunities and employment. Oftentimes, they do not have access to capital nor the skills that

could be their ticket to gainful employment. So often when the Barangay Council conducts

dialogue with the residents of the barangay, they would emphasize the need for livelihood

activities. Thus, when the proponent submitted a proposed income generating project on rag-

making, the Barangay Council as well as the 4Ps beneficiaries helped the proponent prepare

the launch of the income generating project in August 2018.

proposed income generating project on rag-making, the Barangay Council as well as

the Senior Citizens Organization, helped the proponent prepare the launch of the

income generating project in April 2018.

Objectives

- improve self-reliance among residents of Brgy. Dulag by encouraging income

generating activities

- build capacity of the residents in craft making

Mechanics/ Business Plan

The proponent tapped the president of the Senior Citizens Organization of Dulag,

_________________, an able tailor, for training in needlework craft skill particularly

sewing. The 4 sewing machines were provided by the Barangay Council and the Senior

Citizens Organization.

The scraps of cloth were provided by the proponent and these were sourced out

freely from colleagues at Dulag National High School where the proponent is a member

of its teaching force. The scraps of cloth were comprised of old school uniforms and an

assortment of old clothes that were no longer used. The provisions of scraps of cloth

already took a major expense for the project as these were already provided and were

sourced out free. Thus, a loan of P1000.00 was given out as operating capital to the 12

residents who signified interest in the income generating project. The loan of P1000.00

was used to buy threads and other sewing materials from Dagupan. From hereon, the

12 resident-members embarked on implementing and managing the rag making project.

Incidentally, the rags/doormats were sold to the teachers at Dulag Elementary School

and Dulag National High School and to the residents of Brgy. Dulag.

members from this project for two cycles spanning 1.5 months.

Outputs and Impact

The net income is translated into an additional income per member of the income

generating project for one and a half month. Aside from this, the project is able to

provide employment to the residents of Dulag and daily “baon” or allowance to their

children enrolled at Dulag National High School.

The added income for each household brought more food into their tables,

bought daily school supplies for children and empowered the 12 resident-members of

Brgy. Dulag. Indeed, their product is not only a rag. While some are plain and others are

colorful, these rags all represent the efforts of the residents in Bgy. Dulag to make their

lives better and productive and thus contributing to community development.
