Sample PDP Goal Statements

Teacher

 MEGA GOAL: I will research and implement strategies in (insert

content area) to meet the annual student learning objective (SLO) so
that each student will show growth in knowledge and skills as
measured by classroom assessments using baseline data, mid point
data, and end point data. The specific annual SLO focus will be
determined based on the needs of the current students.

A. I will improve my skills in facilitating an efficient classroom environment by researching and

implementing strategies in the areas of classroom management and organization, student
behavior management and time management so that my students can achieve to their highest
level of performance.

B. I will develop my understanding of differentiated instruction including planning lessons using

principles from understanding by design, so that students will be able to reach a higher level of
mathematical understanding as evidenced by assessments, student surveys, reflection, and
participation.

C. I will research and apply new information and skills to improve classroom management
techniques so that student engagement during instruction time is maximized and discipline is
minimized to achieve academic success.

D. I will research, implement and evaluate effective instructional strategies in an early childhood
setting, so that students are provided with a rich and appropriate learning environment where all
children can learn.

E. As an educator, I recognize the impact the classroom environment has on student learning,
which is shy I will research and implement building learning community strategies that are
designed to increase cooperation and collaboration among students in order to accomplish a
given task/assignment and provide students with a safe and friendly learning environment, where
students are able to express their opinions in an open manner and with self confidence, while
feeling valued and respected. By researching and implementing various learning community
strategies I will improve my knowledge on ways to motivate students, group students and
provide inclusion for all students, especially those with exceptionalities.

F. I will better understand the different learning styles of my students, so that I can effectively meet
the needs of each student through a balanced literacy program.

G. I will research and implement reading comprehension strategies so that student learning
increases, as well as student interest and enjoyment of reading and language arts.

H. Based on my district’s goals for all teachers to be working towards raising test scores and
increasing graduation rates, as well as the National Standards for Foreign Language Education, I
plan to integrate a more multi-disciplinary approach in my classroom in order to better show the
relevance of a second language in the twenty-first century. This includes increasing my ability to
teach students to communicate appropriately and effectively and to view situations from a variety
of perspectives. This will benefit student learning, as my students will be more engaged in

 relevant topics, as well as lead to positive growth in MAP and WKCE scores. I will draw mainly
on concepts covered in social studies, English and technology courses, but also on topics from art
and math courses.

I. I will research, study, and learn about classroom management techniques and apply them in the
classroom so that student learning can be maximized, differences are accepted, and teaching
time is utilized efficiently.

 J. I will analyze and use student data to implement effective interventions/instruction using the
Response to Intervention model. This will allow me to use assessments and frequently monitor
academic progress to develop effective lesson plans, using instructional strategies that will focus
on student weaknesses and use their strength to achieve their academic goal.

K. I will improve my teaching methods in the classroom by increasing relationships with the school
community and city so that my students can ultimately learn more about their community and
become more well-rounded and meaningful citizens as well as an active part of the community
they live in.

L. I will better structure my lesson plans and demonstrations using a variety of informal and formal
methods so that my students will be better prepared to use studio time effectively and become
better at showing creativity in different ways.

M. I will research strategies, texts, and diversity organizations to prepare units infused with a broad
scope of social justice resources so that diversity education in the classroom may deepen student
personal knowledge of society, human nature and themselves.

N. I will research various methods on how to stimulate the different cognitive processes involved in
learning through a variety of instructional techniques, technologies, and resources so that
students of all abilities will increase levels of knowledge and skills based on beginning and ending
assessments and my school’s grade level benchmarks.

O. I will research oral (non-written) communication strategies so that my students will develop
better expressive and receptive language skills to get their needs met and participate more fully
in classroom interactions.

P. I will improve my skills in implementing the (Seligman) Positive Psychology model in my

(university) classrooms, and in other teaching-learning environments where I instruct, such as
graduate level educator courses or professional development in-services, so that my students will
develop interest in this applied psychology model for their own future use as teachers.

Q. I will learn about and teach new technologies that can be utilized in mathematics so that I can
motivate students and teach to the diverse learning styles of the students.

Administrator

A. I will implement a student data analysis process of student achievement (i.e. Eclipse Software) so
that teachers will begin to hold professional discussions on developing teaching strategies that
address our strengths and the various learning styles of our students. This will accomplish the
vision through others, foster a positive school culture/environment, and serve as a catalyst for
the development of collaborative improvement plans.

B. I will research and then implement strategies so that individual differences are respected and a
positive learning community is created.

C. I will create and implement a district wide three to five year balanced literacy plan to include
district reading and writing initiatives so that educators will have the skills and tools necessary to
increase student achievement and success in the classroom.
