British Voices from South Asia


Webpage | “British Voices from South Asia” is a collection of 40 interviews conducted
with men and women who participated in the British colonial experience in India. The site,
which first appeared in a 1996 exhibition at Louisiana State University, does a wonderful
job of educating as well as presenting valuable primary sources.

The Ancient Indus Valley and the British Raj in India and Pakistan
Website | An extremely well composed and maintained webpage with loads of material
on India’s earliest historic period, the Indus Valley Civilisation. Run by the American team
excavating several Harappan sites, this page contains not only latest results and
discoveries, but also a more general archive of films and pictures from 19th-20th century
India.

Census of British India


Website | A joint project of several Australian universities, this website has a number of
19th century publications (with a helpful browsing function), most notably the Census
Reports for the years 1871-1901.

Packard Humanities Institute - Persian Literature in Translation

Gertrude Bell
Website | Gertrude Bell went on a round-the-world trip in 1903-04, in the course of
