COURSE DESIGN

COURSE TITLE : AUTOMOTIVE SERVICING


Course Duration : 440 Hours

Qualification Level : Level III

COURSE DESCRIPTION :

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of an


individual in the field of automotive servicing in accordance with industry standards. It
covers core competencies such as; test and repair electrical security
system/components; service and repair electronic engine management system;
overhaul engines and associated components; service automatic transmission; perform
maintenance service check-up and repair to air-conditioning system; and service and
repair aircon compressor and associated components.

This course is also designed to enhance the basic and common knowledge, skills
and attitudes of an individual in the field of automotive servicing.

To obtain this, all units prescribed for this qualification must be achieved.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Student/trainee should possess the following requirements:

 can communicate both orally and in written form;


 physically and mentally fit;
 with good moral character; and
 can perform basic mathematical computation.

TRAINER’S QUALIFICATIONS:
 Must be a holder of NTTC 1 and Automotive Servicing NC III
 Must be physically and mentally able
 *Must have at least 2 years job/industry experience
 *Must be a civil service eligible or appropriate professional license issued by the
Professional Regulatory Commission (for government position)

UNIT OF COMPETENCY : OVERHAUL ENGINE AND ASSOCIATED
COMPONENTS

CODE : ALT 723318

MODULE TITLE : OVERHAULING ENGINE AND ASSOCIATED

MODULE DESCRIPTOR : This module covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes
required to overhaul engines and associated components
of a removed engine. The task involves complete
dismantling and rebuilding of light/heavy vehicles on 4
stroke spark ignition and compression ignition engines.
LEVEL : III

PREREQUISITE : NC 2

NOMINAL DURATION : 80 hours

SUMMARY OF LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of this module, the trainee/student must be able to:

LO1. Analyze engine failure

LO2. Pull down the engine

LO3. Disassemble engine parts and components

LO4. Inspect engine parts and components

LO5. Perform fitting of engine parts

LO6. Assemble engine parts and components

LO7. Mount and test run engine


LO6. ASSEMBLE ENGINE PARTS AND COMPONENTS

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

1. Bolts are tightened according to procedure.


2. Valve timing marks are aligned according to service manual.
3. Timing belt deflection is Measured according to manufacturer specification
4. Valves clearance are adjusted according to standard procedure

CONTENTS:

 Use of torque wrench & special service tools.


 Concept of Torque and force applicable in bolt tightening.
 Classification of bolt.
 Unit Conversion Table
 Procedure on bolt tightening of cylinder head
 Procedure on valve timing setting
 Procedure on timing belt inspection
 Procedure on valve clearance adjustment
 Concept of Expansion and Contraction with regards to temperature
 OHS requirements

CONDITIONS:

Students/trainees must be provided with the following:

 Engine mock-up 4 stroke cycle (Gasoline and Diesel)


 Basic hand tools

 Gaskets and sealant
