You are part of the chemical engineering operations team of a food processing company, and the
managing director of the company has instructed you and your team to carry out a thorough assessment
of key operations within the company from a sustainability standpoint.
In a group of 5-6 chemical engineers, nominate any food processing company of your choice. The company
must be based in South East Region or global. Every group should choose food processing company other
than enlisted in Table 1 below.
1. Describe the company background, organization structure, vision, mission and objectives (5%).
2. Identify the upstream and downstream operations and rationalize the requirements for these
operations (5%).
3. Conduct analysis on the supply chain strategy management in terms of strategy, planning, and
operation practiced by the company (10%).
4. Mention the ethical and moral business practices of the company (5%).
5. Identify 9 major operations/activities within the company and categorise under social, economic
and environmental operations (three for each) (18%).
6. Discuss on the marketing strategies involved in the company (10%).
7. Assess each of these operations in relation to sustainability requirement as mentioned in criteria
no. 5 (18%).
8. Conduct strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis on this company
(15%).
9. Suggest mechanisms to improve the social, environmental and economic aspects for the company
as identified in criteria no. 5 (15%).
10. Produce an assessment of your team’s effort including the percentage contribution of each
member (4%).
Note
Deadline: 2nd October 2017 before 12pm. Hardcopy report to be submitted to Dr Bridgid’s pigeon hole
in SK3 building Level 4 and softcopy report to be submitted in Moodle’s.
Food processing companies should not be selected from the list below as shown in Table 1:
