In this video I will show how easy it is to boot from a USB Flash Drive in a Virtualbox or VMPlayer,
will will be using free software call Plop Boot Manager

Hi Brian, I was watching your video "How to Boot from USB in VirtualBox". I'm using a Mac
Computer and I can't get USB to work in Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I choose USB enabled in
virtual box and I add my Flash drive in the USB windows in virtual box, but then Windows can't
detect my Flash drive. Any ideas?? Thanks buddy!

unmount disk from mac os and try again i just run ubuntu on mac os from usb, just simple eject
disk from mac and it mounts to virtualbox

At the time of this video the ISO was around 82MB. Now the ISO is over 2GB! Why would a
simple little program be over 2GB? I didn't download it.

Thank you for this video. It helped me be un-lazy ;) I keep a little multiboot USB stick handy with
stuff like Clonezilla, DBAN, etc. for quick access. I wanted to figure out how to boot my
Virtualbox VM to that USB stick to load Clonezilla so I could get an image of the drive. I could
have mounted a Clonezilla iso directly in Virtualbox but where is the fun in that? :) Thanks again!

does not work, need to update video for latest version of VBox and Plop.. i followed directions

Dear Sir,

Just now installed VirtualBox on Ubuntu 16.04 x64bit of HP Core 2 Due Branded Desktop PC.
Created Virtual machine of 4GB RAM and 28 GB HD. Now I want to go into Bios Setting for
Changes.. But It is not going to Bios Settings by Pressing F10.

On physical machine, I can go bios settings by pressing F10 and F9 for BOOT Menu . I am
unable to do it on Virtual Machine.

Could You Kindly do the Help Now ?

Is it possible to boot a Windows ISO so that I can cleanly install the whole setup files in my HDD?
Using USB that is.
I used Rufus to put the Windows ISO into my pen-drive, which now contain the files (not the iso
image).
But when I tried to test it out using VirtualBox, I can't seems to boot using the pen-drive, unlike
directly using the iso image.

It doesn't answer the issue. You want to have a bootable drive that you can ALSO boot from a
VM. Having a vdi on your flash drive won't help, you won't be able to natively boot from it.

@Kevin Gagnon ahhh, nvm yes I see what you mean. This video is referencing another video
where a USB is used for native boot... and this new video is whether that same USB can be used
to boot within vbox or vmware. For those wanting to ONLY boot from vbox or vmware should be
able to from the VDI on USB.

Why complicate everything? Just download the VirtualBox Extension Pack, intall it, and thats it.
Now you can use and boot from your usb

Installing the extension pack didn't work for me either, but the boot manager from plop worked

VirtualBox for me, on windows 8 will not let me install the extension pack. Here's the error that

Plop rules! I install and add it to my boot menu on all my installs. Keep usb's, couple cd's and
floppys (yes, the square things) layin around with plop boot manager loaded. Great for cranky
old laptops. I use the plop os/iso for installing syslinux and extlinux. And yes, its at the top of my
vbox menu!

Main computer is Windows 7, I install VirtualBox on my main computer, I then install Windows 7
in VirtualBox, I then boot to plop boot manager which then boot from my USB.
