Term Design Project Guidelines

ENGI 9116 – Reliability Engineering

Learning objective:
 To have design application of the reliability engineering concepts

Rationale
The goal of the term project is to demonstrate the understanding of the course material
through a design and/or engineering analysis of a real-life situation. The term paper is
required to provide detailed application of the principles, methods, and models discussed
in the course.

Requirement
 Students take team project. A team of three members is recommended.
 Graduate student project is required to demonstrate application of the concepts
discussed in the class and beyond.
 Project should have element of novelty and demonstrate advanced understanding of
the reliability, maintenance, and availability concepts and their real-life application.
 Title and a brief outline of the term project:
The outline should include a one-page summary of the intended project. It should
clearly define the scope of work, objectives, modeling approach and a time line.
 A complete formatted project report:
The project report should be complete and concise, and should demonstrate the
contribution (application of the principles and methods) of the individual/group. A
project report should not exceed more than 25 pages including references [times
roman font size 12, one and half spacing].

Time Line
Last date of title and brief outline submission (one page): Feb 02, 2018
Last date of project report submission: April 03, 2018

Evaluation 20%
Novelty of the Approach/Model 10%
Detailed Engineering Design and Analysis 50%
Result and Discussion 20%

Academic Integrity:
Students are expected to conduct themselves in all aspects of the course at the highest
level of academic integrity. Any work for which the student is claiming credit should be
original work and the source of any submitted material that is not original must be given
proper credit. Any student found to commit academic misconduct will be dealt with
according to the Faculty and University practices.

Individual/Group work
You are encouraged to discuss assignments with classmates. However, all solutions of a
completed assignment must reflect the original thought and thorough understanding of
the student. In no circumstance should a student submit a solution or part of a solution
copied from any other source, including fellow classmates and solutions from previous
years. Any student caught copying will receive a substantial mark penalty and may be
referred to the Academic Misconduct Review Committee of the Faculty of Engineering
for disciplinary action. If you have any doubt over what constitutes copying, please
contact the course instructor for clarification.
