WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES
AS THE world finds itself slowly
plunging into the depths of
hopelessness due to the numerous
problems and challenges beset-
ting the whole of humanity, the
Catholic Church convened the
World Meeting of Families in
Dublin, Ireland. Chosen by Pope
Francis as the host from 21-26
August 2018, and guided by the
theme "The Gospel of the Family:
Joy for the World", the Catholic
Church of Ireland welcomed and
brought together families from
across the globe to celebrate, pray
and reflect on the importance of
marriage, and the family, as the
cornerstone of life, of society and
of the Church.
Couples for Christ enthusiastically
participated by sending a mission team
led by IC member Arnel Santos and wife
Bing to this highly important event.
CFC Ireland also offered its whole-
hearted support to the WMoF 2018.
The following key elements pro-
pelled the week-long event:
• The first day of the WMOF, Au-
gust 21, 2018, was the National
Opening Day, which took place
simultaneously in all the different
dioceses of Ireland.
• The days from August 22 up to the
24th saw a three-day Theological
Pastoral Congress where partici-
pants reflected on Pope Francis’
chosen theme “The Gospel of
the Family: Joy for the World”..
The Congress featured talks and
presentations as well as deeply
incisive discussions by keynote
speakers, which included the
Archdiocese of Manila’s very own
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, re-
nowned preachers such as Bishop
Robert Barron, Cardinal Christopf
Schonborn of Vienna, Austria and
the famous chef priest, Fr. Leo
Patalinghud, host of the EWTN
TV show, Plating Grace.
The Congress also included daily
celebration of the Eucharist,
prayerful activities, exhibitions,
cultural events and musical per-
formances.
• On Saturday afternoon, August
25, people from all walks of life
trooped on foot towards Croke
Park Stadium as Pope Francis
arrived to attend the Festival of
Families. The Festival consisted
of a reflective concert within a
prayerful but joyful atmosphere.
The Festival, seen as a celebra-
tion of the faithful who patiently
searched for God’s message for the

all continents.

THE ANCOP Global Walk
(AGW) is a much-anticipated
event in Couples for Christ. For
the past eight years, members
of CFC, ANCOP scholars, part-
ners, and the general public
have looked forward to the one
day of the year when brethren
from all over the world walk
for the benefit of ANCOP
scholars.
This year, the AGW was
scheduled on Sunday, Sep-
tember 16, not just in Metro
Manila but in many areas in
CFC Migrants Program Partners with OWWA
THE CFC, through its Migrants
Program, and the Overseas
Workers Welfare Administra-
tion (OWWA) signed a Memo-
randum of Agreement (MOA)
on September 12, 2018.
A highlight of the MOA is the
advocacy of Family Reintegra-
tion as proposed by the CFC
Migrants Program. The advo-
cacy intends to make holistic
the “mainstreaming” or rein-
tegration of returning overseas
workers. Such reintegration, as
the MOA states, should focus
on rebuilding and re-uniting
families of returning migrants.
Other highlights of the MOA
are:
• OWWA and CFC Migrants
Program will form a working
group;
• OWWA shall accredit the
CFC Migrants Program as its

Fortifying Faith at the SFC RECON
SINGLES for Christ all over
the Philippines attended their
annual regional conferences,
excited to move forward in
their Christian faith journey
and push forward to a more
relentless life with Jesus.
SFC from Metro Manila
held their conference at the
Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig
on August 26 - 27, 2018,
while those in the various
Philippine regions held theirs
in their respective regions.
The conferences were held
over the weekends from Au-
gust to October.
The conference theme
“Fortified” was anchored on
Colossians 1:11: "Strength-
ened with every power, in
accord with His glorious
might, for all endurance and
patience, with joy."
Born Into Battle
The first session of the con-
ference, “Born Into Battle,”
reminded the delegates that
the fiercest battle that they
will ever face is the battle
within themselves.
The participants were
brought to the realization
that in the midst of all of life’s
battles, God’s love remains
constant and true. They re-
joiced at knowing that one
can still remain at peace de-
spite hardships and sufferings
and that one can withstand
every battle for as long as he
remains in Jesus.
The first session assured the
singles that regardless of their
personal realities, no one is
exempted from life’s difficul-
ties and that their journey to-
wards fulfilling God’s will in
their lives is not smooth nor
trouble-free. However, the
session reminded everyone
that, as they grow in holiness
and face life's hardships, they
need only to persevere in God’s
promise and endure for His
grace is sufficient.
Filled by the Holy Spirit
The second session of the
conference, “Filled by the Holy
Spirit,” showed the beauty of
Christianity through the fruits
of the Holy Spirit. The delegates
were reminded that, through
the sacrament of baptism, one
receives the infilling of the Holy
Spirit, and it is the power of the
Spirit that allows each person to
go through battles and to move
towards realizing God's great
plans for each one.
Fortified
To understand that their
hardships have a divine pur-
pose, to appreciate the beauty
of the works of the Holy Spirit
and see how God uses each
battle and hardship to bless
others, the third session, “For-
tified,” taught the delegates
to strive to grow in holiness,
have renewed hope, discover
deeper joy, and develop an
intimacy with God.
The session reiterated that a
person fortified with the Holy
Spirit is far from perfect but
is someone who is not afraid.
When the Spirit is at work in
the midst of one’s brokenness,
he becomes a blessing as he
shares himself to others.
Called to Holiness, Called
to Serve
His Excellency Mylo Hubert
Vergara, D.D., Bishop of the
Diocese of Pasig, celebrated
the Holy Eucharist on the
last day of the conference for
Metro Manila.
He reminded everyone
that the challenge of Jesus for
them is a call to conversion.
“Our life is not for our-
selves, but for others we are
called to serve and lead peo-
ple to Christ,” he said.
The prelate pointed out that
for everyone to embrace a holy
life, they should be honest with
themselves, realize that they are
sinners loved by a compassionate
and merciful God, and serve the
Lord in whatever way they can.
He further stated that all of
these equip each Catholic to bring
others closer to Christ and to pre-
pare them for the coming of God's

CFC DAVAO DEL NORTE “GREATER” @ 25!

COUPLES for Christ Davao del Norte
celebrated 25 years of God’s abundance
in the community on September 2, at
the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism
Complex (DNSTC) RDR Gym, Tagum
City, Davao del Norte. The CFC clusters
from different areas journeyed to the
venue in a motorcade and floats parade
that passed through the busy streets of
Tagum City. Almost 2,000 CFC members
and their families from different chap-
ters, clusters, parishes, and municipali-
ties attended the celebration.
Fr. Bruno L. Genilla, CFC Davao del
Norte’s Spiritual Director, together
with Msgr. Federico M. Mantica, Fr
Levi M. Mantica, Fr. Anselmo G. Junio,
Fr. Allan O. Alindajao, celebrated the
Holy Eucharist. In his homily, Msgr.
Mantica challenged CFC Davao del
Norte to look to the future with con-
fidence and hope.
CFC Davao del Norte’s 25th celebra-
tion theme “Greater” was inspired by
Deuteronomy 10:21 “He is your praise;
He is your God, who has done for
you those great and awesome things
that your own eyes have seen.” CFC
Provincial Area Head Romy Lestojas
opened the program with these words:
“This theme is about looking back on
how the Lord has blessed the province,
conquered new territories and raised
missionaries for the past 25 years of
being in the community. All these
things are because God is beyond all
dreams, hopes, and prayers of Couples
for Christ Davao del Norte!”
CFC President Michael “Shok”
Ariola, in his inspirational talk, enu-
merated the blessings and fruits of
CFC Davao del Norte over the past
25 years—the blessing of faithful
leaders and servants and the blessing
of being united in Christ. From all
of these blessings come the fruits of
gratitude, commitment and service.
He recognized and honored Albert
and Angelina Cartagena for being in
the first batch that started CFC in the
province. The Cartagenas are also part
of the Area Governance Team as the
Pastoral Formation Head.
Ariola further exhorted, “ As we con-
tinue to serve, the Lord never fails in His
faithfulness. Let us remain then to be faith-
ful and trust in Him. This is our battlecry.”

HOLD Canada Soars on Fiery Wings

CFC Handmaids of the Lord Canada
held the HOLD National Conference
on September 7-10, 2018 at the RBC
Convention Centre in Manitoba,
Winnipeg, with close to 600 del-
egates coming from the different
provinces of Canada attending. This
year’s theme was “On Fiery Wings.”
On Friday morning, September 7, a
Leaders Summit was held at the same
venue, with Rey Tadifa, a member of
the CFC Canada National Council
and in charge of the Family Min-
istries, encouraging all the leaders
to continue doing the work of God
even if it entails hardships and dif-
ficulties. Breakout sessions followed
his talk, with each group discussing
their struggles and dreams as mem-
bers of HOLD.
The opening day of the confer-
ence started with the recitation of
the Holy Rosary, followed by the
Eucharistic celebration officiated
by Fr. Geoffrey Angeles, Rector of St.
Mary’s Cathedral, who congratulated
the Handmaids of the Lord for doing
the work of evangelization with love
and dedication.
Tadifa and Sally Doromal, Can-

welcomed all the delegates and
declared the conference open. After
a short break, the delegates came
back to the venue wearing dresses
in their assigned color, complete
with tiaras. The highlights of the

Day 2 started with the Holy Ro-
sary and the celebration of the Holy

The students are able to access
on-line tutorials using Google
class technology that would
link them to the ANCOP USA
Tele-Edukasyon online class.
From there, the students can
proceed to the various subject
areas where they need help and
receive on-line modular/topical
lessons with accompanying vid-
eos. The students can also post
their questions relative to their
assignments and be given help
by the teacher/tutor volunteer
assigned to that subject area.
The ANCOP USA Tele-Edu-
kasyon tutoring program is han-
dled by volunteer teachers/educa-
tors from CFC Maryland who are
certified experts in their respective
subject areas. Initially the subject
areas/contents are Math, English,
Science and History.

First Netherlands iTours—Another Creative
Fundraising for Scholars

The Netherlands as they continue to initiate cre-
ative events in order to create opportunities for
people to help raise funds for ANCOP. Every year,
many Filipinos in The Netherlands look forward
to the fun and creative fundraising activities
of Couples for Christ for ANCOP, because they
desire to share their blessings with the ANCOP
scholar in the Philippines.
Recently, CFC The Netherlands organized
the iTour as a fundraiser for ANCOP Education.
The iTour was held on September 15, 2018, and
brought guests to the Dolfinarium Harderwijk,
better known as the Dolfinarium, a marine mam-
mal park in Harderwijk, the Netherlands. It is the
largest marine mammal park in Europe.
Majority of those who joined the tour were
families who wanted to spend quality time with
each other while enjoying the features of the
marine park. Among the attractions of the Dol-
finarium were the sea lions, the huge walruses
and the intelligent dolphins.
The tour began at 9:00 in the morning and lasted
till 4:30 in the afternoon. Needless to say, the tour
participants went home with smiles on their faces.
And why not? The children had fun with their
parents and the families were given a chance to
contribute to the scholarship funds of ANCOP.
The first ever iTour at the Dolfinarium was
made possible through the efforts of the team
composed of Kim Russel Bugarin, Mhean Ven-
tura Bugarin (CFC), Susan Banares (HOLD), Wen-
dell Rulloda and Erick Arellano (SOLD), under
the supervision of ANCOP leaders Eugene and
Elena Varon.
Aside from the iTour, the team has been re-
sponsible for other creative fundraising activities
for ANCOP such as the iBowl (Bowling tourna-
ment), iBBQ (barbecue-selling at the park during
summer season), and the ANCOP Global Walk,

IT STARTED as an ordinary conversation and
reflections over the just-concluded “Rekindle”

Christ Calgary met with His
Excellency Bishop William Mc-
Grattan on September 4, 2018
at the Diocese office to present a
cheque of donation amounting
to $7,296.
The said amount was half of
the net proceeds from the suc-
cessful “Love More Benefit Con-
cert” which raised funds for the
housing of the retired priests
of the Diocese of Calgary. The
other half of the proceeds was
given to ANCOP Area Coordi-
nators Ernie and Beng Cancio
for ANCOP Canada.
During the meeting, the
Bishop shared important in-
formation regarding programs
and future plans for the retired
priests. Fr. Adrian Martens,
Vicar for Lay associations was
also present.
The “Love More Benefit Con-
cert” was organized by Chapter
North A1 headed by Ronnel
Apil in partnership with Fr.
John Pinto and Christ’s Own
People Production. It was held
on July 14, 2018 at St. Thomas
More Parish.
The concept was the brain-
child of Carlos O. Perez, CFC
Calgary Church Relations Coor-
dinator and founder of Christ’s
Own People Production.
Perez offered ten of his origi-
nal songs for this concert, three
of which (God Is Faithful, God
Is Good, This Is Our Way Of
Life) were winners in the 2013
First North America CFC Glory
Songwriting Contest. They were
interpreted by Laurie and Leah
Callao and Franz Faeldo.
Other talents featured in
the concert were 17-year-old
