Recap of our learning journey T.

Madiha September2018

Dear Mahd

As I sat down to observe you in order to write your learning story for the month of
September. I couldn’t help but feel an impulse of emotions, I feel ever so proud of all your
accomplishments as in front me is a boy that is articulate, confident, and active with great
social skills.

You have come a long way from being a shy boy who never said a word to anyone and
played by himself to now a boy who knows what he wants and can speak his mind. Your
confidence and language growth has won you a medal in most improved category in Quran
competition. What an accomplishment Masha Allah!

When I started working at An-Nur back in 2017 I noticed how quiet you were. Although you
had a few friends, but you tended to play by yourself or with toddlers. Especially Sameeha
who is the same age as your sister. You used to watch other children from the sidelines and
observe their play.

It became a mission for me and a learning goal for you to work alongside you to build on
your language and confidence. Together we also soon realized that we needed you to work
on developing your fine and gross motor skills and hand eye co-ordination which would in
turn help boost your confidence.

As we worked and discovered together, in the month of June (2017) slowly but surely you
began to interact with me and other children. You started to experiment with different
learning materials and learning contexts. Mahd you started to internalize information and
make connection between what you were learning at An-Nur and your wider world.

Since then you have continued to evolve and grown your language, confidence and social
skills. You continued to set yourself challenges. For example on the month of July (2017) you
set yourself a challenge to ride the bike. It was difficult for you but you persisted with the
difficulty and now mash Allah you can independently ride your bike.

Often taking the role of a Tuakana (older, knowledgeable) brother to Sameeha, you got the
chance to further enhance your confidence and language as you were the leader and in
charge of the learning experience. So I continued to support you to be in the role of a
tuakana.

By November 2017, Masha Allah Mahd you were independently exploring your
environment, making friends with older children and participating in our investigation of
insects. You especially began to be close friend with Vicktor, to this day.

Mahd you have now fully become member of An-Nur community, problem solving, sharing,
communicating, developing working theories and so on. I am so happy to see who you have
become and to have been part of your learning journey. Insha allah, in November you are
turning 5 years old and will be leaving us to start on a new journey. I am both excited and
saddened, excited that you will be starting a new chapter in your life but saddened that I
will no longer be part of it.

Mahd, my dear friend I hope that I have left a positive imprint in your life and I pray that you
continue to blossom and grow into a poised Muslim and lifelong learner, Amen. Haere ra
my friend you will be missed.
