ISNA Canada’s Response to CRA’s Audit Decision for 2007-2009

The Islamic Society of North America - Canada (ISNA - Canada) is one of Canada’s largest and
longest running Muslim organizations.

In 2011, an audit was carried out by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for the period 2007–
2009. In 2014, the CRA shared its audit findings which identified ISNA Canada’s failures to
comply with proper management of charitable donations.

Last week, the CRA informed us that we will continue operating as a registered charity.
However, we are required to pay a fine for the non-compliance during the 2007-2009 period. In
addition, between September 12, 2018 and September 12, 2019, we will not be able to issue tax
receipts to our donors.

We are saddened by this outcome. It comes at a time when we have made progressive and
important changes to ISNA Canada's governance and how we operate as one of the largest
Muslim organizations in Canada. In recent months, we have taken significant steps in listening
to and meeting the community's needs and we are set to launch our long-term strategy in just a
few weeks' time.

ISNA Canada abhors and rejects terrorism in all its forms, and categorically denies any terrorist
links. We remain politically impartial and are not in any way linked to any political or extremist
group.

We will continue our operations and remain committed to always striving to be the best possible
organization we can be in service to Canadians.
