Nicomb Surasak is a static antagonist because he had a fight with Chalong and acted bad to the

and treated her but in my perspective, he did not change, he just acted nice to his wife but he
remained the same. He was still mad at Chalong and did not want to acted good at him.

Beggar is a static protagonist, she was poor and everyone acted bad to her until Chalong helped
her.

Thailand : Coffee shop, Chakravat road

3. Plot Summary

Chalong was going to the coffee shop then he fought with Nicomb on the road. He arrived at the
coffee shop then helped the beggar and her daughter to get food and gave them money. He met
the beggar again and it turned out that the beggar’s husband was Nicomb and they gave money to
Chalong for thanks.

4. Type of Conflict

Man against society :

Chalong had to face the problem of the society which was about the inequality and social classes.
The rich acted bad to the poor and the poor was afraid of them.

5. Theme / Moral (lesson)

Society satire
People can not be judged by their social statuses. We can not act bad to poor people and it is also
to the rich people. We can not say that the person is better than the person because they are
poor or rich.

6. POINT OF VIEW

3rd point of view (Omniscient) : The story was told by the narrator and there were some dialogues
of the characters.

PLOT LINE
(BRIEFLY explain what is asked for in each number)

2. RISING ACTION
A. Do you find the series of events easy to follow? Why or Why not?

Yes, it is because the story took place in Thailand, so it was more easy to follow by the settings
and the Thai words. The actions and events in the story were also simple which made it easy to
understand.

B. Which series of events do you find most interesting? Why?

It is when Chalong had a fight with Nicomb. It was so Thai when the people were telling them to
fight each other like they were watching the Thai-boxing program.

C. Identify ONE figure of speech or idiom used by the writer in this part of the plot, and explain its
meaning.

The writer used a lot of “imagery” to picture out the actions. For example on the Chalong and
Nicomb’s fighting part, “Nicomb’s face changed from scarlet to purple,” it made us see how mad
was he.
