I wonder if we can show respect for other things other than people?

This lesson is a continuation over several lessons. This lesson considers


group roles and planning of their play.

Discuss Baptism by immersion and how it is done today.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):


35mins Students are to plan and design a short play that shows the ways Jesus
respected others.

Students can chose to create their own individual play or reflect their play back
from the Bible and Scriptures.

* Discuss roles that each group have to be filled: (displayed on smartboard)


Director- observes groups rehearsal makes changes where see fit
Performer/s- are playing roles in the play
Scribe- during the planning writes down the groups plans
Researcher- reads online/Bible/books into the Biblical story chosen
Materials ‘man’- collects materials from home/school for the performance
*some members might have to fill a few roles

Students will be given a list of possible Bible stories they could deliver.

Students are able to incorporate liturgical song and or dance into their dramatic
piece if it reflects Jesus’ respect

Explicit instruction:

1. In todays lesson we are not performing, just planning and deciding roles

2. You have the option to refer to a biblical story or create something of their own

3. You have one iPad per group where the researcher can research the listed
biblical stories or find one of your own that reflects respect

Expectations:

 Work collaboratively
 Work together
 Jesus’ example: if 2 members want the same role come to some
agreements
 Show me that each of you can work collaboratively so we can perform
these and make an afternoon of performances (including a class party)
 Every group will have a firm idea for their play by the end of the planning
session

Groupings:
 3-4 students per group (pre selected)
 Mixed abilities

Materials:
 Planning template 1 per group
 Writing instruments
 iPad (one per group)

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)
Review the presence of God in our everyday lives. Review examples of God
showing respect for people/things surrounding.

Review the importance of fulfilling your role as this in itself shows a sign of
respect to your fellow group members.

Every groups director will tell the class their groups idea/biblical story they have
selected. Additionally they will retell how it reflects Jesus’ respect.

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)


Students pack away materials. Each groups scribe to return the planning
document to teacher’s desk.
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will they be assessed?)
Students’ ability to select a biblical story or create their own play reflecting Jesus’
undeniable respect for others.

Students ability to fulfil the requirements of their role

Come to an agreement on who will be doing what role independently without


asking for teachers help to decide who is what- cooperation?
