Congress Update 15

24th of SEPTEMBER 2018

LOECHES, MADRID

‘Nobody light’s a lamp in order to hide it’

Dear Verbum Dei Family, in today’s update the first thing we want to share with you is that we
becoming aware that we are entering the final stage; we feel that the days are passing very quickly and that
very soon we will be returning to our communities. For this reason, we are trying to make the most of every
opportunity to share our experiences and know a bit more about the rich variety of ways of living the charism
and the challenges in the different places where we are working.

The truth is that we are living this Congress as a true “school of communion”. The reality of being
open to the dynamism of the Holy Spirit is can be seen in the openness to the voices of each of the congress
members, through whom the Spirit is manifested. How good it is to be looking in the same direction and
work together to define together the ecclesial project for the next six years.
Today has been spent in the plenary assembly. The theme has been
very interesting: ‘the post-foundational stage in relation to Jaime Bonet and
his legacy’. Together we have seen the transcendence of the historical
moment we are living, the necessity of becoming conscious of what it
means to be heirs of a charism and the responsibility of transmitting it to
the generations that follow us.

Without a doubt, as the Gospel that we have read in today’s

Eucharist and that was preached to us by our sister Catherine Cruz, ‘nobody
light’s a lamp in order to hide it’. Applying this gospel to our Historical Patrimony, we cannot hide under a
bushel the light of the charism that we have received.

In a group of 69 congress members, no day passes without some kind of celebration and today’s celebration
merited a big birthday cake… Dervis, with Nereyda, a couple from Venezuela, had his 60 th Birthday.
Happy Birthday!!! We keep in our hearts his testimony: “I am very happy to have my 60 th Birthday in this
universal family, to be light and salt for the world”.
