Last Monday, we have watched a theater play titled, “San Vicente: Isang Sarswela”. The
play was delivered by the Philippines Stagers Foundation where there are 30 actors and 50
technicals that joined forces to deliver a magnificent play. Philippine Stagers Foundation is a
theater foundation duly organized by the security and exchange commission. The play was directed
by Atty. Vincent M. Tañada. Helped by his partner, Jeffrey T. Ambrosio. Music by Christian H.
Lim. Choreographed by Gerald Gimarino. Lights and technical by Art Gabrentina and Costumes
designed by Emy Tañada.
The play was about the life of St. Vincent De Paul of being a good man and a servant for
the poor. In the play, I noticed that the play is filled with various entertainment strategies like they
added humors, jokes, funny facial expressions just for them to catch the viewers’ attention. While
I’m watching the play, I was amazed by the way the artists act towards the play. I truly understand
the fascinating life of our patron saint. St. Vincent De Paul is also known for being the patron saint
for the poor. He was Born in 1581 to peasant farmers in the village of Puoy, Vincent was educated
at a college in Dax, the University of Toulouse and, later, at the University of Paris. His life scoped
the 17th century wherein the life back then is stabilized. France people that time are worse and the
person that change everything is none other than St. Vincent De Paul.
Long story short, my knowledge about St. Vincent De Paul has expanded. I will just
summarize what happened in the play. Saint Vincent de Paul is one of the persons with the kindest
and purest heart I have ever known. He is selfless and forgiving person he chose to be a priest and
serve the people with the words of God than to than to be a lawyer and be rich and raise his family
status and give them a wealthy life. Saint Vincent dedicated himself to serving the poor because
he is also one of them. He was renowned for his compassion, humility and generosity and is known
as the “Great Apostle of Charity" Even though he did experience to be a slave he has no regrets on
it and didn’t blame God for his misery. For me, Saint Vincent is a person that brings hope and
inspiration for all the people especially now in the present time. He gives hope to those people in
need like the poorest of the poor and brings inspiration for those people who wanted to help others
and see life more than having a wealthy life but having a kind heart. He had changed the lives of
thousands of people for the better not by receiving luxuries, but by being given a chance to take
steps to improve their living conditions for themselves. He came to realize that assisting the poor
was not only a matter of charity but also a matter of justice. Saint Vincent became a legend in his
own lifetime.
In terms of the actors’ movements, the actors conducted most of all locomotor and non-
locomotor movements. There were actors walking with style depending on the role that they play.
Running exaggeratedly, Hopping and Jumping when they dance especially when it comes to the
interpretative dance part where in the dancers leap their partners and shows off gracefully. I also
noticed that the actors have a good body structures. It is obvious that they are physically fit and I
think it is because of their daily routine during the rehearsals and practices.
