As a conference of youth ministers,

the NCYM is “a venue for formation and fellowship” (KA-LAKBAY, p. 181),
an occasion for youth ministers to understand their roles
and enhance their skills in youth ministry,
especially in the light of the Gospel, Church teachings and documents such as KA-LAKBAY.
It is also an opportunity to affirm the identity and mission of the youth minister,
to strengthen the community of youth ministers,
and to promote the task of youth ministry in the bigger mission of the Church.

The ECY shall organize and hold the

National Conference of Youth Ministers (NCYM) 2018
on September 10-14 in the Diocese of San Pablo.
His Excellency, Most Rev. Buenaventura Famadico, DD, Bishop of San Pablo,
together with his Diocesan Youth Commission
and the whole faith-community of the diocese,
are preparing to welcome youth ministers from all over the country.

The theme for this year’s NCYM is inspired by the

story of the Lord Jesus washing the feet of His
disciples as narrated in the Gospel of St. John
[13:1-20]:

“Just as I have done for you,

so also should you do…”
[Jn 13:15]

This Gospel verse directs us to the same Gospel

icon chosen for the observance of the Year of the
Clergy and Consecrated Persons this 2018, in the
on-going nine-year novena of the Catholic Church
in the Philippines towards the 500th centenary of
the Christianization of the country in 2021.
OBJECTIVES

Inspired by the invitation of our Church this year towards “renewed servant-
leadership for the new evangelization” to the clergy, consecrated persons and laity—all
of us members of Christ’s body—the NCYM2018 aims to gather youth ministers in:
1. Deepening their rootedness in Christ,
learning from His example as a true Servant-Leader;
2. Renewing their vocation
as modern-day ministers to the young;
3. Acquire skills that will help them
become more effective in ministering to the youth; and
4. Strengthen communion and collaboration
among youth ministers.

Taking place before the 15th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on
“Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment” in October, the NCYM2018 endeavors to
form and develop a new breed of youth ministers who are deeply committed to Christ as
servant-leaders accompanying the young towards discovering and embracing their
vocation. Thus, this event shall prepare activities that will provide joyful and fruitful
learning for the participants, equip them with inputs on salient issues about youth and
youth ministry, as well as skills that will prepare them in fulfilling their youth ministry
roles and in the transition of leadership in their respective settings.

INVITED

The CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Youth, led by His Excellency, Most Rev.

Leopoldo C. Jaucian, SVD, DD as its Chairman, extends the invitation to the diocesan
youth ministry councils of each of the eighty six (86) ecclesiastical territories (i.e.
archdioceses, dioceses, prelatures, apostolic vicariates and the military ordinariate) in the
country, as well as the national councils of the youth organizations affiliated with the
Federation of National Youth Organizations (FNYO).

This year’s NCYM will also welcome two (2) youth leaders from all eighty six (86)
parishes of the host-diocese.

The ECY Bishops look forward not only to the presence of these youth ministers, but
also to the opportunity of meeting them personally and seeing the community of youth
ministers from all over the Church in the Philippines gathered and enriched by the
NCYM experience.

REGISTRATION

Acceptance of the invitation is manifested by registering for this event, which is done
by accomplishing the NCYM2018 Registration Form as a delegation of the diocese or
organization, and sending it to the ECY Secretariat, along with the solidarity share.

Through the generosity of the host-diocese, each diocesan youth ministry council and
FNYO member-organization is given eight (8) slots. Below is a guide for the use of these
slots:

For a diocesan youth ministry

The following slots must be filled by other youth ministers, i.e.
4 + Another youth minister serving at the diocesan level (e.g. a Vicariate Youth

6 + A youth minister responsible for campus ministry
+ A seminarian (diocesan/ religious) or candidate under religious formation

(e.g. postulant/ novice)
+ A minister from another diocesan ministry/ commission which closely
8 collaborates with the diocesan youth ministry (e.g. from the ministry on family
and life, on vocations, on the biblical apostolate, etc.)

For a national council of an FNYO member

The remaining slots may be filled by:

* Role of the Diocesan Youth Director (for a group representing a diocese) or the
National President (for a group representing an FNYO member): He/She is taken as the
leader of the group. Succeeding communications about the conference will be made to
the groups through them, who are kindly asked to relay to everyone in the group.

 A solidarity share of P 1,200.00 is required of each participant. This amount helps
cover the expenses which a large event like the NCYM entails.

Each delegation may submit their payment either by bank deposit or personal
transaction in the ECY Secretariat. If the former, a copy of the bank-validated deposit
slip has to be sent by fax or email to the ECY. Checks must be made payable to the
account name.

Payment of the total solidarity share of a delegation (diocese/ organization)

Registration is until July 02.

NATIONAL YOUTH COORDINATING COUNCIL

Immediately following the NCYM2018 is the meeting of the National Youth

Coordinating Council, on September 15-16, Saturday and Sunday.

All Directors, Coordinators and Leaders of the Regional Youth Coordinating Councils
as well as the Coordinating Council of the FNYO are kindly invited to this meeting of the
advisory body of the CBCP-ECY. The meeting will begin at lunchtime of Saturday, and
wrap up at lunchtime the following day. In relation to this, please schedule departures
from Laguna not earlier than the afternoon of September 16.
