are challenged by the president with
threats, using the case of Sen. Trillanes

POLITICAL SEASON: By the middle
of next month, the filing of Certificates of
Candidacies will be on – signaling the
start of the electoral fever. With the COCs
– there will be alignments (new or re-
newed) of politiicians – with Pres. Duterte
drawing the love-hate line – among those
who are “with him and those who are
against him”. This is traditional Philippine
politics. Because of the short break be-
tween elections (national and mid-term) –

c) able to work in other fields of nursing including home-
care, in businesses, in schools and supervise other nurses as
well.
An ER Nurse must possess very important skills too and
these are:
Listening, following directions, communicating, adaptability,
stamina and good decision making. Able to tackle all these
duties with care and clear communication to the patient and to
their families.
Important qualities of a Nurse:
1. Excellent Endurance- one must be able to stay on both
feet for long periods of time since patients come and go
through out the duration of shifts.
Good mental endurance- one should be able to think on
their feet and make good decisions, ready for unexpected
emergency and be able to react accordingly.
2. Outstanding Communicator- ef-
fective communicating with patients in-
creases the satisfaction of the medical
facility.
3. Patience- It takes a lot of patience
answering a lot of questions by patients.

add even more stress to situations need
a lot of patience as a health provider.
4. Caring- a caring nature is very important quality in order to
put one’s heart in performing duties.
5. Encouraging- to be able to inspire patients and help them
succeed specially when it comes to lifestyle changes. In short a
nurse must be a cheerleader to his patients
In the Philippine setting, our nurses after graduation will
have rendered services for a year or two in local hospitals and
later majority opt to apply overseas looking for the greener pas-
ture as they say. The author if given a fair chance to be part of
a government agency is determined to stay and be of service
to our own native land. At the end of the day I believe it is the
services extended helping others with compassion and warmth
that count most …working in a private hospital here in Iriga City
is such a remarkable experience since day 1 up to present. It is
such an honor to be part of this team of health workers…an ER
team competently serving the Iriguenos.

different parts of the coun-
try, the Department of Trade
and Industry (DTI) signed an
agreement with the National
Food Authority (NFA) and
the Philippine Amalgamated
Supermarkets Association
Inc. (PAGASA) on 19 Sep-
tember 2018.
The agreement will allow
consumers to purchase NFA
rice, at Php 27 per kilo, from
partner supermarkets under PA-
GASA. The NFA rice available
in supermarkets will be packed
and will allow consumers to
purchase a maximum of four
kilos.
“Our goal is to increase the
accessibility to NFA rice be-
cause this is very important. We
want to flood the market with
affordable rice and provide the
people with more options to
access the NFA rice,” said DTI
Secretary Ramon Lopez.
The agreement will allow
PAGASA member supermar-
kets to pick up NFA rice from
the nearest warehouses in their
areas and repack them. There
are over 160 PAGASA mem-
ber supermarkets nationwide,
which cater to B, C, and D mar-
kets. Some of their members
include Uniwide Sales, RFC
Supermart, Isetann Supermar-
ket, Liana's Supermart, and
Welcome Supermart.
DTI plans to expand this
initiative and involve big su-
permarkets in the country. Ac-
cording to the trade chief, they
will also speak with other retail
associations and get their sup-
port to sell and increase access
points of NFA rice.
Meanwhile, NFA Adminis-
trator Jason Aquino expressed
his positive outlook of the part-
nership.
“We have the same objec-
tive, to make rice affordable
and accessible to the people.
This will also complement
the ongoing program of NFA,
called Tagpuan, wherein we
go to different communities to
ensure that NFA rice will reach
the intended beneficiaries,” said
Mr. Aquino.

for the city's poorest families,
Mayor Noel E. Rosal said
Wednesday.
In an interview, he said his
administration will construct
another 40 houses at the re-
settlement site in Barangay
Taysan, located in the southern
portion of this city, after Man-
daluyong City Mayor Carmelita
Abalos earlier handed over a
PHP2-million support fund for
the project.
Abalos noted that the
amount came from the Ciera
Marie Foundation named after
her daughter Ciera, who died in
2008.
The foundation is a charity
organization focused on giv-
ing medical and educational
assistance to indigent children.
It also holds annual fundrais-
ing events, such as golf tourna-
ments and horse races.
Rosal said the donated
amount was originally planned
to be used for the construc-
tion of a permanent evacuation
center but he decided to use it
instead for the construction of
the housing project that would
benefit the poorest of the poor
in the city.
The mayor said the fund for
the construction of a permanent
evacuation center will come
from Senators JV Ejercito,
Nancy Binay, Juan Edgardo
Angara, Juan Miguel Zubiri,
Sherwin Gatchalian, and Joel
Villanueva, who had pledged to
give PHP10 million each for a
total of PHP60 million for the
project.
The facility would serve as
temporary shelter for residents
from the four villages, which
are covered by the 8-km. ex-
tended danger zone at the foot
of Mt. Mayon during the volca-

We all have that free-will to change our social standing especially
when it seems to be unfavorable. This is the story of Fatima Mana-
gat, who grew up in a family that is economically and financially
challenged.
Fatima is the third youngest among her seven siblings. Her moth-
er is a housewife and her father is a carpenter. His parents’ income is
not enough for them to eat three times a day.
“When I was young, I envied other children because their needs
and wants are given and provided to them,” said Fatima adding that
it is her wish to become a manager someday to experience a better
life.
“Our family once celebrated my 7th birthday in one of the known
fast food chain in the Philippines. I saw a well-dressed girl on her
makeup entertaining us. She’s a manager and I wanted to be like
her,” recalled Fatima.
Things, however, turned much harder for Fatima. Her mother
died and worse, her father left them. Despite all the odds, she worked
hard to achieve her dreams even if no one is supporting her. After she
graduated in high school, she decided to find a job and earn a living.
Luckily, she was hired as a service crew.
“I always believe that hard work pays off. That is why when I
started working, I pushed myself to always do more than what is be-
ing asked,” said Fatima adding that after few years of working, she
was promoted as manager.
Time brought change to Fatima and her family. Her siblings have
their own job and family. Fatima then decided to settle down and
raise her own family. Eventually, she decided to stop working to take
care of her children. “When I left my work, our source of living
only depends on the income of my husband Ronald, who works as a
tricycle driver,” she added.
Given the meager income of their family, Fatima thought of other
ways to support their family and that is by starting a small sari-sari
store out of their savings. “The prices of goods are quite expensive
already so I was able to only purchase limited stocks, which is al-
ready a good start,” said Fatima.
Then in 2017, Fatima met Meryl, an Account Officer (AO) of
Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), Inc. (A Mi-
crofinance NGO). Fatima shared that she was encouraged to join
because of the institution’s affordable products and services.

LEGAZPI CITY -- Hun-
dreds of jobseekers on Tues-
day flocked to the "Gov-
ernment Job Fair" being
conducted here by the Bicol
Civil Service Commission
(CSC) until Wednesday
(September 19).
Lynbee Navio, regional
information officer of CSC-
Bicol, told the Philippine
News Agency in an interview
that the two-day job fair of-
fers hundreds of vacant posi-
tions from the 10 participat-
ing regional line agencies.
According to her, most of
the vacant positions are plan-
tilla or permanent positions
and the remaining are con-
tract of service and job order
positions.
