LIS 773-01 - School Libraries ASSIGNMENT: STAFF DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL Students will draft staff development proposals to familiarize faculty with the Standards for the 21 -Century Learner In Action. Due date Your staff development proposals are due March 18. What to do Propose staff development activities to help your instructional colleagues understand what the Standards for the 21 -Century st Learner look like in action. Revisit Standards for the 21 -Century Learner In Action with the objective of infusing the standards into instruction through collaboration with your instructional leaders and other teachers. Develop a written proposal for staff development that will help you achieve your objective. Format the written proposal for consideration by your building principal or district staff development director. Develop a separate, brief visual presentation that outlines your proposal for your peers on the other team. What I will look for This assignment requires you to integrate a great deal of information. Use whatever resources you need to complete the assignment. I will evaluate your proposal on its thoroughness, its practicality, and its adherence to the letter and spirit of the st Standards for the 21 -Century Learner In Action (SIA). Statement of Need The statement of need should express the motivation behind your proposing the staff development and may include references to your own evidence gathering with instructional colleagues and students; to district and/or campus initiatives, mandates, strategies, objectives, or missions; to the missions of your professional associations; and/or to the local, state, national, or international factors evident from the strategic planning process. Proposal Brief The proposal brief provides an overview of the strategies you will devise to address the needs outlined in the statement of need. Consider it an executive summary of everything detailed in the rest of the proposal. Support Provide support for your proposal in the form of outside research, visions and missions, strategic plan objectives, or your own action research data. Goals Express as outcomes the goals you hope to achieve through the staff development activities you propose. Examples Provide or describe examples of what the goal outcomes might look like if you achieve them. Activities Describe the activities that you will facilitate during your staff development to achieve the outcome goals. Timeline Provide a timeline for all stages of the staff development: data gathering (if necessary), preparing, promoting, facilitating, assessing, and reporting. Materials required List all materials that the staff development will require. Facilitator responsibilities Outline the individual responsibilities for everyone involved in the staff development, from approval through preparation and implementation. Assessment Describe how you will assess the participants in your staff development and how you and they will assess the staff development itself. Budget Provide a graphical and/or narrative budget to cover material costs as well as time costs, if appropriate. Conclusion The conclusion should reiterate the most important points of the proposal and help frame the proposal in terms that your administrator(s) will find compelling. References If you refer to research or resources in your support statement or elsewhere, provide citations here. Appendix Include here examples of any presentation or promotional materials, such as handouts from a presentation, the agenda for the staff development, an announcement about the staff development, or other materials promoting the opportunity.
